Racism in the States.
America says it's trying to abolish racism. Yet there are still school, neighborhoods, church's ect only for white people and others for black people, and the government allows it. So how do they expect to get reed of racism in the states? If white kids are not allowed in black schools and vise versa? I mean shouldn’t all schools accept all kids and all neighborhoods accept all racial background? Does'nt all this give the impression to the youth of America that each racial background is different? Also how come there has never been a black U.S president? (If there has been one who was he and which year was he in power).

Well. I havee kind of noticed the black is weird not beautiful vibe from my 99.9 percent white middle class suburbia. It isn't that serious of a thing to me though.
|
Racism lies deep in our roots. Quoted from my political speech for school. Racism is almost impossible to get rid of because we all can't get along. You would have to have a utopia to end racism, and I don't want that.

I think racisim is used as much as today as it was in the 60's. Nothing has changed and that is sad! Now it's more like hate groups than laws that prevent minorities to be in a place. Ive been to South Carolina and you wouldent believe how many Confederate flags I have seen down there! It's amazing on how many there are. It just sickens me that my country has that reputation!

Oh, and what's a 'Confederate flag'? |

No one's denying that we have social problems and that racism doesn't remain a problem in the US, but the fact is that things are improving. The Secretary of State of the United States is black. The head of the National Security Council is black. The Surgeon General of the United States is black. These are the people who work directly for the President. There are blacks in both houses of Congress. And Surfacing, if you want to criticize the United States, get your facts straight. They aren't. |

My country's racism problem is not half as big as the America's one, We have limits and pratically everyone here is a different background we have all learnt to live with each other in peace. And no i already told you i do not hate the U.S, Just cause i hate the government does not mean i hate the people, Get it right!. |

Sadly, the world is as far from eliminatin Racism as it is from eliminating Sexism, Homophobia, or any other Prejudices... |
Yes very true, other crimes like sexism go unattended to, but discrimination against sexual preferenece should end. People should be able to choose their own lifestyyles. I am straight, but I don't go out and a make fun of gay people, and bisexuals, because they have rights just lik I do.

You know surfacing, it's ignorant posts like yours that make me want to leave.
Name some "only black" and "only white" schools. Granted, there are fraternities that cater to specific race...although any one can join. MY white friend is a member of an all black frat house, and he loves it....just get your shit together before you make a statement like that...you claim you hate the government, but I bet you don't even know how it truly works.. |
During the civil war, confederates were people who fought to keep slavery legal. You may know the confederate flag as the Stars and Bars.
|
Racism will always be a problem because our ancestors made it a problem..........Somethings are nearly impossible to change............

No tom, it wouldn't.
The frat was made by blacks..for blacks, although they do allow other races in... why don't you just go play a computer game? |
Oh, that's it. You know, normally I'm a nice guy, but all this hatred crap I've been seeing on the forums lately is just too much. So, I'm going to explain this topic to all of you who have no clue, then we're all going to shut up unless we have something productive to add. Kapish!?
1- Yes, there is racism in the states, but it's a different kind than it was in the sixties. I don't have the time or energy right now to explaint the difference between De Jure and De Facto segregation, just look them up. It basically means that, no matter what laws you pass or repeal, some people are just raised to be racists, and it takes time to change things on that level. It'll get better, but, c'mon, it's only been forty years since the civil rights movement. 2- Yes, we have problems, but to say that the UK is so pristine is a crock of BS. You all get along fine over there, huh? Yeah, real fine. Catholics and protestants fire-bombing churches and day-care centers, the welsch having their history slowly robbed from them by mass anglofication, and the constant stubborn refusal to allow Scottland it's independence. And don't anybody jump in with crap about Canada or Australia being untouched, either- I've heard plenty of foul remarks from Cunucks about inuits, and Aussies about New Zealanders. It's bad everywhere. Deal with it. 3- The confederate states were the states in America that tried to leave the union during our civil war. They were led by president Robert E. Lee, while the north was led by president Abraham Lincoln. That the war was fought over slavery is a common misconception- Lincoln and the North were fighting to keep the union together, Lee and the south were fighting to keep industrial reform out and preserve their agricultural heritage. The southern confederacy was horribly outnumbered, most of their generals died very quickly, and they lost miserably after a lot of bloodshed, yet some people would still like to think that South Carolina is another country. 4- if you don't like somebody's posting style, do us all a favor- shut up and PM them instead of wasting our time! For those of you who are apparently illiterate and type with the aid of a trained monkey you scream obscenities at , have your mommy or daddy, or both daddies, or "Uncle" Pokey come in and tell you that it means Personal Message. Here it is phoenetically for those who have defied darwin and learned some reasonable faccimile of reading skills- pur-si-nel mes-ij. It is gud! Gud! Hav fun frend! 5- If you don't know anything about a certain aspect of history or social geography, DON'T START THREADS ABOUT IT WHERE YOU CLAIM TO!!!! 6- If somebody has defied number five, instead of just pointing it out and showing off your ability to insult people in a quasi-witty manner, you can CORRECT THEM! It's a simple concept! There. If anybody wants to lose an argument on any of these points, I'll be happy to oblige later, when I'm less pissed and more coherent. Right now, I REALLY could use a burrito. |
Australia has racist problems of its own.
For example, John Howard won the election last year following a campaign that honed in on the nation's hatred. It resulted in the endless suffering of the detainees at Woomera Detention Centre and a fiasco on the Tampa ship out at sea. I was embarrassed to be Australian during those times. I think recently people have begun to realise that the way they were being treated was not right, I've seen a few glimpses of compassion recently. |
*hands Deb a Burrito*
well said....I agree with you totally. |

Now I agree with almost everything you said, but the anger and bitterness in the post was totally unnecessary. |
:
10 black people = all black people 10 black people + 1 white person = most black people 2. Then it should be called a 'made by blacks for blacks fraternity.' 3. Because I have homework and I'll watch Amelie again when I've finished. |
