The Q and A Thread

Hello. Here is your chance to post any questions you have ever had about Oddworld and I will try to come up with a resonable answer for all of them. I like coming up with theories as to why stuff on Oddworld works like it does.

For example: I remember Alf once mentioning that on average the rain on Oddworld falls down and hits the ground but occasionally it goes up. My answer for this seemingly ridiculous statement is simple. Oddworld has a lot of moons (I think the number was 29, correct me if I'm wrong). Those moons produce gravity. If enough moons happened to have orbits which brought them close together and close to Oddworld, I think that their joined gravity might be able to pull water from the clouds over Mudos up into space. Sounds odd I know... but this is ODDworld.

The point of this thread is to initiate interesting discussions.

does the oddworld universe represent happening in human past, it see/history? Does it reflect human society? There seems to be certain morals and situations which appear to be a problem human civilizaitons have also faced....

TheKhanzumer 04-19-2002 06:08 PM

From an Oddworldians perspective: What is a human? What happens in history happened because it did. Oddworld is not a representation of another world... How many Soulstorms you drink last night?

From a Real World perspective: Yes. As Lorne and Sherry have said themselves, the Oddworld games are a discrete way that they can get people to understand todays problems. Once you get past the goofy/sadistic outer shell, the Oddworld games are really about serious matters that are occuring on Earth, past, present and future. So yes, I think that Oddworld is closely related to the Real World as far as morality, religion and polotics go.

Oddsville 04-19-2002 06:28 PM

Well usally we have Max answer all our questions for us, but thanks anyways, oh and welcome to the fourms.

morphius 04-19-2002 06:34 PM

I mean morally. wasnt there slaves in a factory with outrageous numbers still afraid to rebel-ww2?

TheKhanzumer 04-19-2002 06:51 PM

Morphius- Yes morally Oddworld is similar to our planet. Both civilazitions face many of the same moral issues (slavery, deforestation, animal cruelty, cannibalism...). Just like on Earth, the different inhabitants of Oddworld have different views of what and what isn't right or wrong. The Oddworld games will address many different issues in future games and the line between black and white will only get blurier and blurier.

Oddsville-Ya, I know Max usually answers questions and if he wants to he can give his input on these questions as well. I just want a chance to come up with wierd theories.

morphius 04-19-2002 06:53 PM

i hope this is not spam but i respect that

TheKhanzumer 04-21-2002 01:39 PM

Anyone else. Surely all there are still some mysteries surrounding Oddworld. Have you guys really figured out everything and left me with nothing to ponder?:fuzconf:

Re: Alf's Comment:

'twas a Joke...

Re: Oddworld's resemblance to Earth:

This is, sadly, getting less and less obvious as the game goes on. AO's dark humour clearly showed how Oddworld mirrored Earth so well, but AE and MO have shown a steady decline in that kind of symbolism. Oddworld's just a game now...

In a way, I prefer the Industrial side of Oddworld to the Native side. I find the Industrial side, with it's irnoic parody of Earth's industries, quite fascinating, whereas the Native part of it doesn't reflect any part of our world really, and seems quite, well, dull... (That's why my fics are almost exclusively set in the cities...)

My Own Question: Does anyone else think that this topic has been done at least twice before?

Mac the Janitor 04-26-2002 12:03 AM

Whoops...

Sorry, but I posted a new topic with questions about Sligs (Slig Questions) right before I saw this one. :fuzemb: :fuzsad: I would of posted it here, but I saw it right after. So if you could answer my new post, that would be great.Insert[list]

TheKhanzumer 04-26-2002 12:09 AM

Danny you might be right but it has never been done by me before so this isn't really a pointless thread. Especially for newbies. For example: Instead of posting another "will meeches return" thread they can ask that answer here without annoying as many people.

Scrabs

Hello there!
I have a few questions about Scrabs.

1) Do Alpha Scrabs look different than normal Scrabs?

2) Do the babies just look like tiny Scrabs?

3) Do they hatch out of eggs?

4) Are there different tribes of Scrabs?

5) Have there been any Scrab wars?

Does anyone know the answers these questions? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Mac the Janitor 04-27-2002 01:50 PM

Thanks

Ok! Thanks Xavier!

TheKhanzumer 04-27-2002 03:49 PM

Since scrabs are unsentient creatures and have no real vocalizations other than "Skreeeech" (unlike paramites who have a wide range of cummunicative hisses, warbles and oinks), I would tend to think that they aren't smart enough to band together in tribes (although if you used the word pride, as in lions, or pack you would have been right) and as for wars... um when was the last great squirrel war? Scrabs are driven by instinct not motive and any great fight among them would probably be over a fresh carcass.

Xavier 04-27-2002 05:21 PM

if 2 scrab herts meet each others the alfa scrabs fight and the winner got the 2 herts
the loser is most of the time death

1. Well, there's a reason why they're the Alpha Scrab... I'd expect they'd be quite a bit more beefy... And probably quite scarred, too.

2. Haven't a clue.

3. Haven't a clue.

4. No.

5. No.

TheKhanzumer 05-13-2002 10:44 PM

After a forum member started about five new topics, each asking one question, I decided to remind everyone of this Q and A thread. Q=Questions, A=Answers. If anyone has questions please post them here, it makes more sense than posting a whole new topic (unless of course you have something that you think will generate a lot of deep discussion).

Mac the Janitor 05-14-2002 12:44 AM

Yeah, it's getting kind of irritating, huh?:) :D

Xavier 05-14-2002 03:31 AM

Why do youwant evrybody ask his question here, there will be only 2 topics left, one for asking info, an other for asking pictures.
maybe some littles for théories

TheKhanzumer 05-14-2002 10:54 PM

I don't want everyone to post their questions here Xavier. Originally this was supposed to be a place for people to post theories that would start serious discussion about Oddworld... but if someone has a great theory they will wan't to (and should) post a new topic. This is now just a place for people to ask simple questions that will only need about one reply to answer. I think that posting these sort of questions here makes more since than starting a whole new topic.

So any questions? :fuzconf:

Xavier 05-15-2002 03:03 AM

okay, nice principe...
a question?
why are there 2 babies mudokons combined by the head in egg of the OWI logo?

is it something like: "we create worlds with problems?"

TheKhanzumer 05-15-2002 12:10 PM

I'm sorry Xavier I don't understand your question. Maybe if you posted a picture of the logo you are asking about I can figure it out. Sorry...

Xavier 05-15-2002 01:56 PM

here is it

understand the question now ?

TheKhanzumer 05-16-2002 02:34 AM

Hmmm... that dosn't look like the mudokon eggs in MO. I think that that is just an idea OWI had for a cool logo, nothing more. I don't think there are two mudokons connected by the head, just some strange creature in an early stage of developement.

Edit: Oh, now I see what you are saying! It looks like a baby holding a smaller one and the heads are connected. Wierd. I still think it is just a an odd logo and nothing more though.

Xavier 05-16-2002 05:42 PM

I got the awnser from Alf

:

The twin fetuses have long since been absorbed into Oddworld lore. The caliper and test-tube motif for the Oddworld logo was created for a
brochure for the 1999 E3 convention. At the time, we were working on two games simultaneously; Munch's Oddysee and Hand of Odd. As time
went on and the gears of corporate commerce kept turning, Hand of Odd faded away and Munch's Oddysee became the sole focus of production.
In the end, Oddworld gave birth to a kicking, screaming Munch's Oddysee. That is the history of the twin fetuses.
hmmmmmm, nothing to add

munch man Abe 05-18-2002 01:23 AM

post our own thread.

we should post our own thread. that way we get more atention in the toppic. like in my post oddworld toys?:D 12slig 13slig how come I have a halow?

Mac the Janitor 05-18-2002 06:08 PM

Actually, I just go through and look at all the new posts; both ways get equal attention from me!

Shrykull and other

Hi, I have a question about the Shrykull.

Do Shrykulls live in the wild like paramites and scrabs or is a supernatural creature that is only seen on oddworld when Abe turns into it?

thanks

EDIT: I have another question. I saw this pic in a review for MO and I can't work out where in the game it is. Any ideas?

EDIT2: YAY, I have a star under my name! I'm on my way up the ladder!

TheKhanzumer 05-20-2002 01:07 AM

According to Alf, the shrykull is found in the wild but it is incredibly rare and powerful and no less supernatural just because they are found in nature. Maybe we will get to see more of them in a future game.

As for that pic... it is somewhere in Vykkers Labs but I'm not sure of the exact location.
