Multiplayer capabilities
Who thinks that for the next oddworld game..there should be some multiplayer advances..or would it be a bad idea..(Personally) i think it would be cool !!!

Wow, uh, multiplayer. Lets see, cooperating with someone onlineto complete a level, thats kinda dumb, naturaly idiots would go and not take it seriously at all. Two, if you play as like slgis VS muds it would be completely unOddworld like, kinda cool though. No racing and stuff though, I don't see how there could be online gaming for Oddworld. Post how you would like to see it....

Majic_Abe, Andy didn't mention a thing about "online" gaming... He said "multiplayer"- Meaning that you could play in a team with a friend using "only one Xbox"... You know one person plays Abe and the other plays Munch or something like that... Although, I dont think that it would be dumb racing through the levels against someone else using the same charictor even if that was what he ment (think of all the stadergy involved).
Andy, I think thats a great idea. And Im sure that OWI would not be stupid enuff to not to put in a multiplayer capibility in ME and all the other games the make. I wonder why they didn't put it into Munch? Personly I think that co-op level/game compleation and level completion racing are good ideas for both Multiplayer and online gaming (you could go online againts a knowen friend or in large groups to cancel out the idiot effect). |
O, yes, sorry. But co-op is all i can think of, thats not very big multiplayer. In fact, I would find that quite annoying for a puzzle game(which oddworld is unfortuneatly becoming less of). KInda like multiplayer for SUper Mario World. Quite stupid and annoying.

I also think they need to rework there ideas for game play altogether to make it good for multiplayer... However I think they will have to anyway because of other problems with it... Make it so its less puzzle game and put more stratagy So the game mechanics dont work like any off the shelf game- So that things inside of it act as if they are in a world not a game.
(eg. instead of having a hole heap of different classes for each species that have different wepons, make it so the different classes of different levels of talent can pick up any wepon that is on the ground, on the table or imbeded into a wall etc. and then use the best they can) More realistic game play= More stradigy= Multiplayer that is good= More fun. And also the future games should bring back that good old Oddworld originality. No one wants a game that is no different to the game beside of it on the shelf. |
Multiplayer:
Squeeq's Oddysée was intended to be Multiplayer, maybe not anymore Online: I saw an interview of lorne and he said he will made an Online Oddworld whit lots of characters, some runned by computer aand some runned by real guys, you will see the différence, and you can speak with each other, It will be BIG ! |
If it WERE to be multiplayer, I would like to see it on a turn-based basis like in AO. That was a lot of fun, because you could see how much further ahead than the other guy you could get to. Except, instead of having two seperate storylins overlapping each other, you could have this scenario: when either Abe or Munch dies, player two takes over , has to revive the deceased character, and resumes the level. This could be really exciting because some of the places where you can die are very perpetual, i.e. in the range of fire of a large group of sligs, and when one dies, BOOM!, player two gets stuck in the delimma with the remaining character. I could see that as being very fun all through out the game - ecspecially the swimming Munch levels with the mines. Co-op could be fun, too, like one person is Abe, and one is Munch, Squeek, etc.

I readed somewhere we will have to control the 5 hero the same time... how is that possible?

Five charictors at once... That sounds a lot like multiplayer to me :) ... But I suposs they may not all be used in every level...Like only the ones that happen to be near the main charictor at the time or something.
Or maybe when you start the game you get the choice of one other charictor to help the main guy for that game along. Maybe in future single and multiplayer games you could chose which charictor you wanted to be at the begining of the game and follow there story... Some times iderpendent from the main charictors story, but still everyones path overlaps. I suposs it all depends on how OWI would like to tell their story. |
I think the only game that should have multiplayer/online gaming should be Hand of Odd, being a RTS and all. The oddworld action/adventure games should stay strictly single player, two player co-op would get confusing, in my opinion anyway.

Mulitplayer could work in Oddworld, but I think only in a cooperative situation where one person controlled one character (say one Munch and one Abe) and you each had to play your part then change characters or possibly even split screen and play both at once. I doubt it'll ever happen. Maybe, but to me Oddworld is mainly a one player adventure game.

multiplayer capabilities will probobaly be available in The Hand Of Odd, the startegy game that they're making. But a traditional Oddworld game multiplayer? It is stupid to think. Unless some crazy side games were developed, like, mulitplayer challenges instead of the game inself.
