Grand theft auto three: Is it really banned in austrailia?
Well, a lot of people here have been saying it is off the hook, but aren't a lot of people here from Auzzie land? Like Daniel Brown, doesn't he live in tasmania? If it is banned, is it bannned only to minors. I know that the original one raised some feathers in some south american country. Is it true. (Please say it ain't so Joe, please say it ain't so!!!)
|
Yes it is banned here and i'm ****ing pissed off!!!!! It was released here till our stupid government decide to ban it!!!!
|
Yes it is banned but im sure it has been released with alot of the 'naughty' (as seen by the aussie government) content of the game.
I am actually very fortunate to have a cousin who got the game when it was released and it is the unchanged version!!! He has lent it too me since christmas and its very intertaining ;) Alcar... |

:
Rating the game as an 18 is very patronising to the uner 18s who won't actually hi-jack a car and run people over but an outright ban is even more patronising. Whoever's decicion this was should be hit with a baseball bat several times then blown up with a molatov cocktail! Yay for violence! |
that sucks, i heard its very good, my bros friend has it, i mit get it myself (i live in da USA) hmmm, its banned in austrailia ehh??? *gets crazy idea to buy GTA3 and sell it to Austrailians for jacked up prices* ITS PERFECT!!!!!

It's been re-released in Australia, with minor alterations. Apparently the only aspect of the game that was changed was that you can now no longer hijack police vehicles.

Why would ANYONE want a game that simulates real crime!? Crime is not a fun thing...and IMO those that play such games are SICK!
|
Crime is fun as a computer game, but not in RL. Heck, it probably is fun in RL for all I know, but I wouldnt' want to be a criminal because it's just plain wrong.
I am looking foward to playing GTA3 myself. GTA 1 was fun, and GTA3 is even better! Gamespot gave it a really high rating. :) - DH |
Yeah, well anybody here good things for max payne or play it? I have wanted to get that game for so damned long!
|
Yeah it's been re-relised. My friend wants it for his birthday. But the reason it was banned was because you could get a Hooker into your car and she would bring your health up full and then you coud shoot her after she gets out. I think they took that out.

2. I know. 3. Would you consider people sick for killing somebody in a racing game (where the aim of the game is to win races rather than hurt people - like WipEout) or greveously bodily harming someone in a wressling game? (since those two examples were completely different I would prefer two answers...please) |
:
3. Those are more based off of fantasy. Heck...I play some games just to blow heads off monsters (ie Turok series for the N64) for stress relief. Yes some games like wrestling you hurt people on purpose, but in others you don't HAVE to. For instance in the snoozer lv with all the interns...you don't HAVE to keep plugging the interns with tranks until they die...but you can if you want. Many games are based more on fantasy then RL...that's why I don't oppose the violence depicted in them. But a game like GTA...that is based COMPLETELY off of RL crime! I can just imagine a teenager thinking 'Wow if they are making games of stuff like this(RL crime)...it must be ok to do it for real!' I know I may sound like I am contracting myself...but I am not. If I didn't state the differences clearly enough, let me know and I'll try again. |
So, playing a game about crime will make you more likely to commit a crime? What about movie watching? i just watched Bad Boys, does that mean I am going to go "heroin smuggling....kick ass!"
|
Yeah, Grand Theft auto is banned in Australia, but only because it has to be "R" rated due to the violence and crime (X rated is also illegal here in Aust. except in the state of Canberra) and since video games in Aust. can't have an "R" rating, it had to be banned. But don't worry too much fellow Aussies, I read in the paper that the Office of Film and Literature is recalling the laws here and is considering letting video games have an "R" rating, so Grand Theft auto, here we come!
|
Movies/TV shows are a different story. (I am finding this hard to explain...so bear with me here...) With them those that try to iminate(sp) what goes on them are not right in the head IMO for it is obvious that it is just a movie/show IOW...fantasy. (this is not including the news, documentories, etc. Things that deal with current events, history, etc.)
Back to the game, let me clarify one bit: A game that depicts crime but has you playing as the law inforcement trying to stop it I am okay with. It is the game that has you actual playing out the crime itself I have probs with. |
Crime good. Crime fun. You like Fun, you like Crime! Must steal car... Must run over pedestrians... Must **** hooker... Must deal drugs...
Seriously, do you really think anyone would be able to learn the tricks of the trade from GTA? It's hardly what you would call realistic... If someone tried to emulate GTA3, they wouldn't get very far, put it that way... |
I just find it disgesting that people would want to play a game that simulates REAL crime that hurts and kills people in RL.
I don't how that can be appealing to anyone save for the most twisted of minds... |
GTA3
The original R rated GTA3 is sadly not available in Austrlia but there is an edited MA rated version available on PS2.
Having any copy of GTA3 is still good, they'll just take out the adult parts of the game. It will still have blood, drug use and course language.:D www.gta3.com |
Okay then, I'll remember that I'm 'twisted' then.
Ooo...GTA3...I can't wait for the Xbox port... |
