Interns, muds and stitches

Hey, anybody noticed in those FMV that the Interns have stitches in their mouths, "surgically prevented from whistling while they work" as OWI put it. Just like Muds in Rupture Farms.
Has anyone noticed that even though Abe's stitches are supposed to keep his trap shut, he could always talk anyway? I wonder if that was an aspect of the story OWI planned for AO, but abandoned it and decided that keep the stitch look 'cause it looked cool?

Mmm......

That's interesting how Abe can talk with stitches in his lips , when they're supposed make Abe keep his trap shut. Yeah I saw picture of a Intern with stitches on his mouth, I didn't know Interns had stitches until I saw that pitcure........ :fuzblink:

.

Sewing technology has advanced since the days of Abe's Oddysee.

How evil. Stitching creatures' mouths shut. I wonder if there'd ever be native Interns that talk a lot. Nah, Interns are probably mainly a MO thing. Native ones would suck.

Lantra 03-09-2002 10:31 PM

interns have their mouths stiched shut because they whistle and sing so badly while they worked, wich distracted the vykkers.

Tex 03-09-2002 11:49 PM

What's up with Intern's mouths? I mean, look at how the stitches go; strait up and down. How would a mouth like that be able to wistle? :fuzconf:

Shrykullmaster 03-11-2002 12:22 PM

maybe as employee of the year, they removed one of Abes stitches? and maybe in later games there will be a talking intern(maybe on a different continent besides mudos were everything is differant)

Xavier 03-11-2002 02:27 PM

some technical information
they stiched the lips because they didn't want to devlop an inter GameSpeak

paramiteabe 03-12-2002 12:51 AM

Think the stitching was some sort of Oddworld fashion? hmm maybe not.

on the mounth??? not realy useful

The Shrink 03-12-2002 03:34 AM

Wow. I didn't expect this many posts on this topic. I don't think stitches were ever fashion. I just found it odd that Abe's mouth was stitched shut then he could talk. I guess the story may have changed to suit the purpose of Gamespeak and the stich look remained because it looked cool on Abe. No character re-design, not that that would be hard since it's only the mouth and other muds don't have stitches. It's just uniquely Abe I suppose, for the rest of the Quintology.

ODDBODD 03-12-2002 07:12 AM

interns are stiched because their whistling is too annoying and muds are stiched up so they wouldn't chant, not so they wouldn't speak. It was also a sign that mudokons were slaves and represented that the glukkons owned them and controlled their actions.

paramiteabe 03-12-2002 10:18 AM

I notice that Abe is the only Mudokin with stitches. Nobody else even in Abes Oddyssey.

yup Abe is the only one...
Glukkons knew he has a special power.

Dequibenzo 03-16-2002 02:40 AM

then why are there chant suppressors everywhere? They had no idea Abe was special, not even he did for a while there. That's the point- the clumsiest, most run-of-the-mill mudokon slave you could imagine, a floor mopper who's always hitting his head on things and likes scrab cakes, turns out to be the messiah. It's cooler that way.
When you check out the production design sections of the OWI site, sometimes they tell you that Abe was first conceived as a monk whose "stitched lips forced him to keep his vow of silence". Obviously, yes, the game dynamic changed, but the stitiches were kept to make him different. Notice that Abe is also the only blue Mudokon, and the only one with a red and black ponytail, instead of a black or purple one.

Mudokon stitches

I may be new here but I have sense of piecing together things.
I read in the not to distant past that mudokons have their mouths
stitched when they are found talking. The vykkers are obviously
not working hard enough in the stitching department. Secondly,
Abe doesn't remove his stitches as a reminders for what will happen
to his race if he fails. And yes, his stitches became loose enough
that he can talk.

So much for stopping him blowing stuff with his chants...

Xavier 05-09-2006 09:39 AM

please don't bring back 4 years old topics... it's against the rules of this forum
anyway welcome ;)

magic9mushroom 05-10-2006 09:42 PM

It's still interesting tho

Bullet Magnet 05-13-2006 04:11 AM

I feel sorry for the bartenders who cater for Interns. Mixing drinks that they can consume must be hell. Curse those stitches!

Nate 05-13-2006 08:12 PM

They would probably consume it intravenously.

Bullet Magnet 05-14-2006 06:24 AM

Where's the fun in that?

Xavier 05-14-2006 08:43 AM

It's probably another kind of fun ;)

Bullet Magnet 05-14-2006 08:57 AM

Ah yes. Say no more. :)

magic9mushroom 05-16-2006 02:32 PM

Who knows the Vykkers probably created the Interns so they might have made their metabolism dependent on just pharmas
