Nicknakes, real name(FYI Danny)

Dan, why do you insist on learning people's real names and then calling them that. The people's real names here are their screen names. Thosee mofos exsist for a reason. Use them. not to be so harporific, but i thought this would be a blunt and satirical way to beat this into your head

Doug 03-09-2002 12:42 AM

Some people have made it clear that they do not mind or even prefer being referred to by their real names. Some of used our real names as our screen names. It's between the people Danny is referring to and Danny what he calls them. If you don't tell him what your real name is than you've got nothing to worry about.

Danny 03-09-2002 12:42 AM

I call people by their real names for three reasons:

1. It seems more friendly.

2. I feel like I'm talking to the person, rather than to a random identity they have created.

3. A lot of people have bloody stupid nicknames...

"Satirical"? Do you know what this word means? If so, in what possible way was your post satirical? Anyway, there's no point in beating in into my head, because I am not going to change just because you think I should. Besides, you have no need to worry, because I don't know your name...

Bloody is so Harry Potter.:D

Steve 03-09-2002 01:13 AM

bloody is bloody useful sometimes. why do you consider it harry potter? it's not like they even used it that much (I don't even know if it was in the books).

Disgruntled Intern 03-09-2002 03:11 AM

Yeah really. If some one didn't want to be called by their real name, and expressed that to Danny, I'm sure he'd be happy to oblige.
Statikk man, this topic seems a bit hostile......that's not nice!
Pinky..oh man.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks the terms 'bloody' was invented just for the Harry Potter books.

It wasn't. Britons have been using the word 'bloody' as a swear word meaning 'very' (as in 'that's bloody repulsive!'), or simply to add impact to a phrase (as in 'Bloody Hell!') since the Eighteenth Century! The word is a contraction of 'by my lady', which is presumably a reference to the Virgin Mary.

For the record, I don't mind whether people call me by my real name (Anna) or by my net-name. If you do choose the latter, though, just call me Middlesboogie. 'One, Two' is a title, like 'Ms'.

I think it's nice if some one calls me by my real name. It's more personal... And my nick is so stupid..:D It comes from my dog's name but originally it's a name of a candy bar.;) Well I don't really mind what people call me. Unless it's something rude...;)

D'oh! That's the trouble with the internet; sarcasm doesn't come across very well.
