:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: Oddworld Inhabitants has crossed a line, and I don't want to follow. I don't like advertising in games, and I won't support a company that's for it. End of story. I'm sorry that I won't be able to enjoy playing Munch, but the fact is that with the ads in it, I wouldn't have enjoyed it anyways. There are other game companies who manage to get by without putting ads in the gameplay, game companies more desercing of our devotion. So, it's been fun while it lasted, but I'm now quitting Oddworld! See you guys later. I had a good time on this forum, you're all great. Maybe Oddworld Inhabitants will change their ways... and I'll be able to come back. |

That was a great interview! It's nice to know that even after putting in all this work to please us with a great game, they can spend time answering our questions instead of checking into rehab. :) I also love the uppermost pick with Abe possesing the Glukkon. I might be wrong, but that looks alot like a Glock Star! I didn't think they were anything more than a nice piece of concept art! Woohoo! Go OI! I can't wait 2 weeks! *goes into XBOX-waiting induced spasms* |

i totally understand what all the anti-SoBe people were on about!!! i also like SoBe for trying to make the soft-drinks market more healthy, but i don't like them enough to advertise their product in my game!!! |
i dont have a problem with the sobe. i mean come on. is it really that bad? they make quality games for us and this is how we repay them.

Well, be honest... SoBe didn't exactly help make the game. I'm not thrilled about the ads but I won't boycott it because of them.

I for one like SoBe! and I think if oddworld needed to get money from a sponsor to finish the munch's oddysee game and they were ok with doing it then so am I! Also, getting money from a sponsor probably got the game out for us faster so DON'T GRIPE!

Why? Because he probably IS Lulu. Ya know, one of the main goals of the game is to help a very-low-status Glukkon(Lulu) to go up the Glukkon coorporation ladder, so that he can help ABe and Munch in their journey (the stupid Lulu, a nerd, an idiot, doesn't know that, of course).

I remember reading somewhere that Abe and Munch would try to raise molah for Lulu, so that he could bid on the last can of Gabiar. They can help him by stealing molah from other Glukkon cooperations, and getting Lulu promoted for a higher salary. I think you also control Lulu for some levels also...

it would be ok if OI put their own logo in the game (which they probably have done)...but how much of the code or design did SoBe do? --- from a screenshot i saw, it would seem like you must posess other Gluks then get them to donate their money to her...i don't know if she's a Tree Hugger sympathiser or not, but i know you have to posess her once in a while... |
Not much to correct anyone on. Lulu isn't a 'good' Glukkon. It (Lulu) is just like any other Glukkon, wanting to get Moolah by destroying the forest, but because it's lazy, dopey and rather feminine (it spends its free time reading girly magazines), it just doesn't get anywhere.
Abe and Munch use this weakness to climb Lulu up the zigaurat, to the top of the hierarchy of command, and Lulu, being the Glukkon it is, never questions it. So, no corrections. And, wow, I'm still online! I'd really like to discuss the screenshots, so I've left a nice impressive space above. The first picture does appear to be a Glock Star, but what interests me it the bizare device above it (in front of Abe as you look at it). It's certainly no traditional security orb. Picture 3 has a board in the background - it looks like our status indicators are back. It has 'security (Interns)' and 'fuzzles' on it. And picture 4: is that a yellow rope I see? It looks fun! Actually, Abe posesses Lulu to make him do what they want him to do. This is what causes Lulu to climb the ladder and become a Glock Star.

I think people are making a mountain out of a molehill with this Sobe business. It's no big deal. Besides, Sobe sounds like a decent company. Lorne said that Sobe was excited about promoting Munch, and that they have "demonstrated historic efforts to try to raise the nutritious quality of the average mass market soft drink." It could be worse, McDonald's or Nike could be sponsoring Oddworld. Can you imagine Abe in Nike shoes? Or a McDonald's restaurant instead of "Alf's Rehab & Tea"? Oddworld would never allow such a thing, because those companies have questionable policies.

Why does it bother you so much?
There's no indication Oddworld Inhabitants got any money from the deal, it was just a cross-promotion. People who've never seen Oddworld got a chance to play it on the Sobe bus. Just ignore the Sobe vendo machines if they pose such a problem to you. We can't even buy Sobe in Australia, so it's even less of a problem for us. Your last comment was rather harsh, Oddbodd. OWI went to the trouble to offer us fans some answers to our questions and this is how you express your gratitude? |
sorry alot of shit is happening to me in the last week, and i am just losing my cool! Still i take back the comment but not all of it! i am still pissed that oddworld inhabs will defy their sense of odd nature and ruin another universe just for profit or whatever!
