Making of the Newscaster Slig's Microphone
Greetings. Just recently I have been finishing up on a project that I've been working on for a few months to show my dedication to Oddworld; that project is the building of the Newscaster Slig's cordless microphone as seen in Abe's Exoddus:
![]()      I've prepared a small page overviewing the entire process with pictures. So if you've got a little time on your hands, please have a look! Thanks. *Edit* Ah yes, I forgot to add that it does in fact work both in wireless mode, and with the cord; quite nicely. |
WOW!!!
Wow... that is awesome... I'm actually speechless that someone can make anything like that! It would be a lot of work (and take a special and dedicated person) to even do anything near as great as that.
It is so realistic, that I almost thought I WAS looking at the newscaster's microphone! Once again... AWESOME!!! It just is another reason why your banner tells the truth!!! Abe Babe... |
ah, most impressive. It's really cool looking..wow.
|
It's spectacular! Your exploits never cease to amaze me. You've a meticulous eye for detail! :)
|
Hmmm, it looks fantastic Pilot, a masterpiece it is.
What did you use to make it? Alcar...:fuzblink: |
That looks great. But just one question.
Can you play Golf with it??? |
Alcar, the microphone is made almost entirely out of metal. The old microphone head is cast iron, the top of the handle is cast aluminum, and the bottom of the handle is galvanized steel. Look at the gallery for more information.
Wolfpac, although this microphone can be used as an effective backscratcher, I fear that using it as a golf club would damage the original antique satin-black wrinkle finish on the head. |
You have too much free-time!
Wow! It looks like you had some trouble making space for the microphone on your desk! I wonder how long it will take for this to appear on OW.com... *checks watch* Wow! |
Gluck Schmuck, it's not a matter of how much free time I have, it's a matter of how much dedication I have! I am an extremely busy person, and don't have all that much free time.
|
looks like a lightsabre...
it looks like the pilot has a bit of spare time than flying a ship. i dont think you can be FOM again though :dodgy: |
So that's you told, Tom... ;)
*looks at all the pictures* Eef, some of them are a bit huge, ain't they? Interesting, though. I wouldn't know where to start with stuff like that... *trundles off to Pharmacy Practice to make oh-joy-what-fun-aqueous-cream* |
its big because he used a digital cam, i guess he didn't wanna resize
|
Of course it's got to do with free time. If you didn't have any free time, you wouldn't have been able to construct that.
But still, I have to admit that that is one authentic microphone. Why don't you tell OWI about this? I'll be the most interesting update of their site for weeks! What's next from the magical workshop of Pilot Productions? A SkullJack? A Snoozer? Impressed, Max Muggledarner |
Wow Pilot, you did a great job constructing the Newscasters Microphone.
|
Thank you
Thank you, everyone. I am indeed planning on showing this to OWI, but only after I have finished it which could be a while, seeing as I want it to be perfect. (Or as close to perfect as one can get!)
Hey Max, those are both great ideas. As a matter of fact, I think I will look into making a skull jack. I have some vacuum tubes that have those funny looking filaments in them...hmm... |
how many appliances did you dismantle to create the microphone anyhoos?
|
I didn't dismantle any appliances , I just took a modern cordless microphone and an old carbon microphone and merged them together. The rest is completely original.
|
That is one hell of a Microphone. You are the biggest Oddworld Fan. Happy B-day! Sorry wasn't here for it.:(
I see a vision of Vykker body armor or a snuzi... maybe that the brew kicking in. |
M.O.M. Newscaster Slig Microphone
