Solve the Enigma

Enigma 1 - The Coin

A man is trying to sell an ancient coin, where it is written "540 b.C.", to a Director of a museum. Instead of buying the ancient coin, the Director calls the police. Why?

Enigma 2 - Saara

You are driving a jeep in the desert of the Saara. You find a lying man with his face in the sand. He is dead. There are no clues around, and the wind, which could eliminate footprints, hasn't blown for several days. You look into a knapsack in his back. What do you find?

Enigma 3 - Poligamy

A man had settled in a little town. Eventually, he married ten women who were also living in the little town. None of them had divorced or died, and the man did not break any law. How can it be?

Although there are many explanations, the "Official solutions" of the three enigmas are surprisingly simple and logical.

I'll post the answers in a couple of days (if anyone doesn't answer before that) :

Enigma 1:
The coin is a fake because it says "540 B.C." on it, and in 540 B.C., they didn't know that they were 540 years before Christ.

Enigma 2:
Dunno.

Enigma 3:
Simple. The little town was in one of those states where having multiple wives is legal. Right?

1. The coin says 540 BC. Period. How did they know at the time?

2. In the knapsack was an undeployed parachute.

3. ?

3. The man was a Priest.

Gluk Schmuck 11-06-2001 06:27 PM

since the other 2 have been done...

3. it's in a place where polygamy is legal

Edit: yours also makes sense, Ret...

Hehehehe... Here's a tough one.

4.The man was afraid to go home because the man in the mask was there.

Haha! Explain that!

Melvin:squeeking paramite 11-06-2001 09:25 PM

I know that one, Osiris... it is a base ball game. The man was trying to run home, but the catcher was already there...
Edit: Oh, I think I know 2, also... is it a broken parachute or something of that sort?

well, you sort of gave it away #3 with "Poligamy." 1 and 2 are already explained, yet I thought 1 was because the common numerical system wasn't developed yet.

Damn, Melvin!!!! Foiled again!

Joe was reading the newspaper one day when he saw a headline that read "John's wife Susy found dead in ski lodge!" Immediatly Joe called the police and told them that John had murdered Susy. How did he know??

Lampion 11-07-2001 04:35 AM

Uh.. I dunno, Osiris.

anyway, here are the "official solutions" of the three first enigmas:

1)Daniel and Pilot are right, the coin is a fake, because the inscription "540 b.C." is a contradiction.

2) Bravo, Pilot. It's an unfolded parachute.

3) congratulations, Rettick. The man is a priest, he performed marriage ceremony for the ten women.
