What constitutes spam.
Spam should only refer to stupid emails that say stuff Like click here for info on skateboards to by and then flood you you with hundreds of emails and advetisings. You will be seeing a lot less in the fure of spam because legislation is being set up to make it illegal to spam and subject to a fine. I sure hope congress jumps all over this and junk mail with it. You could win ten million dollars is a phrase i never want to read again

I thought this was going to be another "what is spam" topic... but I ventured in and found it to be of interest.
Just quickly, on a message board, spam is also irrelevant posts. But yes, the general use for the term is just that... unsolicited advertising. I really hope that law is bought into congress. I am someone that recieves a lot of spam email. Mostly on getting a loan or making money, but sometimes damn porn email too, some of which is pretty sick. It really annoys me, because you get this email saying "thank you for signing up for ... blah blah blah", but you never even went near that site, nor would even consider it. And they use hotmail addresses which begin with something like x9a8sdd so you can't even filter the addresses. Oh yeah, and would you trust your money or credit card with a company that uses Hotmail!!! I wouldn't!!! I remember my boss at work wanted me to look into this program that actually scours the internet for people's email address and then spam them. I laughed when I read it because it was saying how you are able to do it legally and was trying to tell you it's a good idea (like how many people actually read those crappy emails). My boss got so ripped off, as he paid for this marketing kit to get the info, then he had to pay for the program! Lucky he didn't ... as it really sucks when you have to do something for work that you think is wrong. At least he dropped that and now just sends emails to customers and people who enquired about products (which is the correct way to do it). I'd love to see these advertising spammers get what's coming to them... a fine and possible closure of their business if they continue the practice. Abe Babe... |
