Very annoying things on the forums!!!!
Okay, there are very annoying things going on last times. First, Mr. Donut gets hacked and whoever it was posted a message: "American bombing, do you think they got what they deserved?!" Then, Drippik starts to bring up useless old topics. Then, some stupid named Alex starts loads of pointless topics, a member who's name I don't remember introduces him/herself with: "Dragadon is a bitch."....
THIS MUST COME TO AN END!!!!!!!!!!! But what can we do about it? We get more new members then ever but a lot of them are stupid or people that stop after a few posts and possibly never reaches higher ranks then gabbit tadpole. What can we do? We CAN close the forums to anyone who wants to join, no new members accepted. But that is not what we want, of course. We can still get real members. So what do you think of this? |
tis impossible to screen all those that want to become members.
The other problem is that people can pretend to be anything they want on the net (me = dragon...nuff said), so even if we did go to a selected members only format bad people would still find a way in. Plus AB and Syd wouldn't have the time to screen everyone. Besides..this forum has been open to all and I do believe AB and Syd intend to keep it that way. After all...this forum is a means for peeps to get help on the OW games and to interact with other OW fans. We should not let the occasional bad apple spoil the bunch...let the admins and mods deal with those while the rest us enjoy are stay here at the Oddworld Forums. |
My rank isn't very high (finally made it to mudokon slave)because I post only when I've got something to say rather than leaveing a lot of useless spam posts...
Hope there's no problem with that... [ October 10, 2001: Message edited by: Niteowl ] |
Okay I don't mean I hate people with not so high rankings, but I hate peopke that post approx 3 messages and then leave forever. Check the memberlist, there are a lot of them.
|
Well said everyone. In the coming months Oddworld Forums is going to become more popular than ever, we're going to be inundated with new members. Current members are going to need patience (myself included). There'd be nothing worse than our forum veterans deciding to leave when it gets too crowded.
Maybe to control things we'll need a stricter approach with enforcing the rules. |
for example, Pacen left because of that, didn't he?
|
He did. Although he says he hasn't officially left. The occasional post is seen, but I use the term "occasional" lightly.
|
since we have like almost 400 members, im a veteran now! *big smile* member #71. such a sweet number. anyway, i think anyone who denounces another member for no GOOD reason should be banned immediately.
|
At how many posts may you call yourself a veteran? Or has that something to do with your member number?
|
In a perfect world we would have an active forum with good posts and topics, no spamming and no idiots.
OK... so that's never going to happen. That's an admin's dream, and believe me, I would love that to be the way things are. But even regulars are guilty of spam posts sometimes... or used to be until they listened to what people say. Unfortunately not everyone listens... take recent case of Alex. As Sydney already said, we may have to be more strict with rules. Some forums ban people without warning if they break a rule. I don't know if we would be that extreme, but maybe one warning and you get a 7 day ban for example. Also, the reason that you get so many members with really low post counts is that some of them come here asking for help in the game. That's all. Once they get their help, then they move on. Or perhaps they realize the forum isn't for them. Don't know about the 0 post people though. I have no idea why they join. That one always puzzles me. In a nutshell, I guess these problems happen on any forum. It's just annoying that idiots do come in from places. I don't want to see any regulars leave either... you guys are what makes this place. :) I know some forums do have members only forums ... but that may give people the impression we are being exclusive and the main off-topic may get neglected by regulars. CP, you have more posts than me, but i only post like 2 times a day. whereas you are more active than me. im not sayin its a bad thing, im just sayin ive been here a little longer and seen many things happen.
Edit: WOOHOO! slig gunsel!!! yay!!!!! [ October 11, 2001: Message edited by: Joe the Intern ] |
*walks in with a cane* Yep, I'm a veteran then... sure, I only have 372 posts or something, but I'm still a pretty early member considering all of the members. 77... pretty good number. All these newer people who have more posts than me... wow. I don't post as much as I used to..
Also, talking about being one of the earlier members, I want to say: I used to be annoying sometimes. Very annoying every once in a while. So, I want to apologise to any member I was annoying to. Yay, I don't have to say any thing more! I apologised! haha! Now you can't peg any thing on me! I had no forumer skills! Oh, yes, on to CP's idea. I don't think it's really a good idea to get rid of all new members. I mean, there could be some great oddfans out there who miss out. I mean, if you really want on the forums, and you can't just because they won't let you. It's impossible to screen every one... but if only there was a way to get rid of spammers and flamers as quick as possible...*sighs* we can always dream.. OH NO!!!! The name of the newest member is "Odd sucks cock"! NOOOOOOO! You know what that means...another flamer...
|
and you had to give the creep the attention he or she wanted? *baps Mel on the head* shame!
|
aahh yes i can see it now. the reception will be so warm: "this topic has been closed!" hahaha. i hope he NEVER POSTS!!! hehe. im 71. i beat melvin!! *dances around and claps* of course, i didnt post as soon as i registered either.
|
odd sucks cock has already had his/her posting privileges removed. Heh, killed him before he got a chance.
|
I generally consider someone a veteran if they used to post on the old Ezboard forums, but there are a few people who have earned their veteran status despite not having been around on the old forums...
not sure which member # i am, why don't you look?<<<<< |
Well, I'm one of the veterans, I suppose. I am the 18th member to move onto the UBB from EzBoard.
- DH |
i was the 41st, but i was on ezboard quite a while...
i can't remember whether or not you were already there when i joined, eddie, can you? |
Ah he's probobably jealous because he can't play oddworld. He's probably a little immature 6 year old trying to start something that he can't even finish that's why he onlt has one post! *sticks L up* Looosa! :D
|
Odd sucks screen name thingy is just trying to get you mad.
|
I think banning was definetly the best way to go with odd sucks. He/she obviousley wasn't going to contribute to our forums, and banning him now will save alot of agravation and bandwidth later. As much as just banning someone without them even getting a chance doesn't soundright, if we could proactively banning 'em will save us some complaining later. With most of these flamers/spammers we waste more posts complaining about them or trying to make them stop then they actually post.
|
I was on the ezbord forums just for a short time. But I think Im a veteran too. (A lil one) ;)
|
I used to be on the ezboard as well. I'm member 21 (i think)... Doesn't that say it all? Besides, isn't it Oddworld that is important and not that number? Well, damn that kid that "accidently" tried to make my keyboard drown in pepsi, making it hard to write...

Dis isn't about the ezbord forums, just about flamers. It's really crap when dem shit'eads do that, but then again I used to be a flamer so I can't talk. Mabye you could to a trial run for newbies to see how they act?
|
Numbers are just something that UBB tends to use. When we first moved over I wanted to remove the member numbers from the posts, but didn't know how. Now that I do know how to, it's just something that's there and doesn't bother me at all.
In the end, we are all equal, no matter what number we are or how many posts we have had. Some people have more time for the forums than others, some people joined earlier. It doesn't matter. As long as you are a good member and contribute to the forums, then we are happy to have you here. ![]() Abe Babe... |
Hm. I'm 61, but I'd probably have been a lower number (if that makes sense) if the forums didn't move when I was at home for the weekend... ho hum... ;)
Do I count as a veteran? Hm - would that be an oldbie, as oppposed to a newbie? |
Two thing to add to the list:
|
I find dis annoying!
How do hackers do this?  |
I don't know, but they are NOTgonna do it to me again! *Changes all his passwords and arms himself with a firewall*
Just bring it!! - DH [ October 31, 2001: Message edited by: Dark Hood ] |
