Announcement: Private Messages Enabled
After noticing an increasing number of topics that are directed towards only one or two members, we have decided to enable Private Messaging on Oddworld Forums.
What this means Private messaging allows you to send a user a personal message that only they can see. We expect members to use this feature not only to communicate with each other, but whenever they want to ask a member a question only specific to them. Exceptions to this would be requesting a banner. How to do it Above each post is an icon like this ... http://www.oddworldian.net/oddworldf...iv_message.gif . Just click this to send a member a Private Message. Alternatively, go to their profile and click the "Send New Private Message Link". Or you can easily send from your buddy list (see below). How do I check my messages? Click the "my profile" link at the top of any page to check if you have new messages. What other features are there? Buddy List: add friends to your buddy list so you can send private messages to them without having to find their post/profile. Ignore List: Don't like someone? Easy, add them to your ignore list so that you don't see any messages from them again. More info on these two features can be found inside your profile section. If you don't follow this new rule If we see a topic directed at only one member, it will be closed and a warning given. Repeat offenders will be banned. We also encourage members not to reply to these kinds of posts. Future improvements This is only the beginning of this feature. We may be looking at further improvements in the future such as a notification of new messages on the front page, etc. In the meantime, we hope you continue to enjoy Oddworld Forums, and this feature. Great idea it will clean a lot of the nonsense that has been showing up in places. it will probally get rid of most of the spamming that has been going on. plus people who would spam a lot could use this to ask the individual their question. Very Cool!

Xavier... not sure why, but for some reason when you reply to a Private Message it gets deleted. Probably because that "message" is then sent to another person.
I'll have to look into that one further. In the meantime, if you want to keep your message, you should send a new message to that person, rather than replying to it. Paramiteabe... I'm sure we'll never completely get rid of spam posts, but here's hoping they at least get rid of some of it. Abe Babe... [ December 29, 2001: Message edited by: Abe Babe ] |
