Ughh. Yet More Homophobes. (Time For Some More Intelligent Discussion)

Alright, here is the deal. I am listening to a television news report about a young boy playing with girl's toys. The boy's mother was actually AFRAID that he would be gay. Several of the child's neighbors wouldn't let their sons go around this poor child. I think it is an outrage. What do you think?

Sl'askia 11-22-2001 12:23 AM

tisk...tis a shame. what does it matter what kind of toys a kid plays with? (I, for one, played with action figures instead of *shudder* barbies) As long as the kid is having fun there shouldn't be a problem...I mean...my younger brother has a younger male friend who plays with barbies and such...and he looks and acts fine to me.

I usually tend to keep out of the gay debate discussions as they really aren't my thing, but I do have something to add to this one, as I'll use an example from my own experience.

As a kid, I always played with boys toys... trains, cars, space ships. I watched science fiction cartoons/anime. I liked playing sport with my brothers.

OK... I grew up a tomboy... who cares. Even today I would prefer to watch sport or play video games than go out shopping for fashion and clothes. But it doesn't mean that I am a lesbian (I'm straight).

Now what I always find weird about this... is that there are many girls that were like me... that would have been considered a tomboy. But how come when a boy decides to play with dolls or something there is an outrage and everyone complains and says that it is not right. It doesn't make sense.

I don't think that playing with a certain type of toy will change your sexual preference. In the case of a boy, it might make him appreciate the more feminine things, or perhaps make him more sensitive. But whether the kid grows up gay or not, is another story.

I don't understand society where it is ok for girls to like boys things or wear boys clothes (i.e. I can wear a boys shirt or pair of jeans), but if a boy likes girls things or wears a dress, there is an uproar or is not deemed as "acceptable" by society in general.

Abe Babe...

Joe the Intern 11-22-2001 03:38 AM

I totally agree Abe Babe. My sister wears Men's clothes (she's 18) and no-one cares. If you see a boy walking down the street in a dress, it's considered being Gay. To me, this just doesn't make sense.

Gluk Schmuck 11-22-2001 04:19 AM

Ewwwwww, weird - crazy people.

I think I had a few dolls - action man, babys, Sindy.

The only reason Action Man is considered a 'boys' toy' is because you get guns and war stuff with it (not very pleasant).

If you base your actions later on in life on what toys you 'should' have, boys would all be at war and girls would, hmm, urrr, umm, (what the hell do Barbies do?), oh yeah, do nothing with someone called Ken!

glukkon_daniel 11-22-2001 01:02 PM

Hey, I was watching that too!

The psychologist guy said that boys like that usually grow up to be loving, nurturing fathers. However, another psychologist guy said that there are signs of homosexuality. You'd have to have watched the whole show to understand both sides. Simply reading about it here does not show you the argument of both sides, and they both had excellent points. The mother was a nice, normal lady, and she had no problem with her son. What she DID have a problem with was people who did have a preblem with her son.

All I can add here is to direct you to the Gay Adoption topic, since that is turning into a general Gay Rights topic...

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-22-2001 08:28 PM

What kind of baby dolls do you have Gluk? Why do you want them. They bore me! Like BArbie and Ken! LOL

Danny 11-22-2001 08:53 PM

According to these people that Morgan is talking about, that would make you a Lesbian, Pinky... :D

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-22-2001 09:12 PM

Um no, because I date guys. Dating girls? Yuckie....Besides, barbies had no instructuins saying that they were for boys only! Bwahahahaaaa.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-22-2001 09:13 PM

And besides, Morgan may be lesbian, but does'nt know it! Or hiding it! Bwahahaha!

Sydney 11-22-2001 09:50 PM

What male didn't play with dolls at one stage of his life? I remember I used to play with this doll called Teary Deary, it was so corny - but it was fun pumping water into her, then squeezing her plastic body to make her cry! *sigh* memories. Most of the kids in my neighbourhood were girls, so I had little choice but to play with them when I was younger.

And I turned out okay. *twitches, drools*

Joe the Intern 11-23-2001 04:57 PM

Pinky,
1) I'm not Lesbian.
2)I'm Morgan.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-23-2001 05:35 PM

I thought you were a male joe?

Joe the Intern 11-23-2001 05:40 PM

Yes, Pinky. I am a male. That is why I said I am not a lesbian.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-23-2001 07:08 PM

Morgan is a guy's name? I thought it was a girls name. Some girls have that name.

glukkon_daniel 11-23-2001 07:42 PM

Yeah, I thoght Morgan was a girl's name, too.

LuxoJr 11-24-2001 10:25 PM

Little kids play with toy guns a lot, too. I guess the prospect of being gay is worse than operating a firearm.

Capri Ream 11-25-2001 12:18 AM

Seriously I don' find a problem with guys playing with so-called "Girls Toys". My cousin (who's a guy) and I grew up together playing with G.I Joes, action figures, Barbies and baby dolls. I don't believe that there is such a thing as "Boy" toys and "Girl" toys. They're all the same to me. http://www.freakygamers.com/smilies/...obpinkblue.gif

Rex Tirano 11-25-2001 10:53 AM

Things like this makes me angry!
I mean I've seen so many boys play wiv dolls and so called *girls toys*! I'm a tom boy and play and act like a boy! Thats how I am! So whats the problam with Boys playing with dolls? *Scratches head!*

Molluck 11-25-2001 03:20 PM

I am a bit of a tomboy! Who cares!
(Some little tarts at school put girl and boy toys into a catagory and I hate em!)
Anyhow Tonnes of boyes play with girls toys and It really annoys me when some people think they are gay for it when they grow up compleatly straight! Anyway won't a so called 'boy toy' make a boy think guys are better than gals and start lurving them!

Steve 11-25-2001 06:34 PM

Should it really matter whether or not they’re gay I say no, if the parents don't like them as much then they aren't good parents. Plus why should the neighbors care what their neighbors’ kids are playing with.

Gluk Schmuck 11-26-2001 12:31 PM

The reason these people are acting like this is simply because they think it's better to be a boy than a girl. That's what Madonna says in What It Feels Like, you don't have to be geneous to notice that, you just have to be aware of it.
Example: What would most people find more acceptable, a man wearing a mini-skirt or a woman wearing jeans? (i couldn't even think of anything that is socially unacceptable for women to wear) - Most would find the latter much more acceptable (religious extremists inluded!). Why? Because, traditionally (in the olden days), men have always had more power and rights than women.

So, we conclude that these crazy people are acting like they are because they think guys are better than gals!

(Whew, *bandages fingers*)

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 11-26-2001 05:57 PM

My brother played barbies with me cause he had to. And look at him now! Bwahahhaha! :D

well men had more power but that doesn't explain it. don't you think someone would be more angry that a person was trying to get more power than to lose it? I believe it's because they've been doing it for a longer time I think in ancient history they wouldn't officialy let women join the army (exept for sparta) so the women would dress up as men then again that makes no sense that they would do that just to proved they can die/fight as well as men I'll duble check my facts then edit this post.

I don't think the kid's parent should have taken action. Let him play with the toys he wants to and don't assume he's gay until he gives you a good reason to believe it. I don't think toys can determine a person's sexual orientation.

Molluck 11-27-2001 02:00 PM

Every one here seems to be very caring people (which is good) Cose for once there is a group of people that are ALL backing one side up. (what am I on about?)
