Thanks for the info, Gluk Schmuck. I went to Microsoft.com and read about this virus which is a mutation of the code red worm. It goes through the internet, grabs systems and installs itself. Then it joins the other worms and it spreads. There is a patch that you can download, but this is what it says on the site:
Who Must Act? Every organization or person who has Windows NT or Windows 2000 systems AND the IIS web server software may be vulnerable. IIS is installed automatically for many applications. If you are not certain, follow the instructions to determine whether you are running IIS 4.0 or 5.0. If you are using Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me, there is no action that you need to take in response to this alert. So I'm assuming, that those of us, like me, with Windows 98 (or 95) don't have to do anything. Weird. ![]() |
Yeah, I have windows 98 also and anti virus stuff. Those usually work.
|
heh i have both Win ME and NAV, so im not worried. I do now that the 'virus' is actually a worm called 'Code Red'. There is an article on it here: http://www.cnn.com
|
Okay, well now I know more about it off of this subject and the main Radio & TV news, I will stay online. I have Win98, so I'm also not worried. However, from what I've heard, if you have any websites online that you wish to keep, I'd advise to back them up! Also, this topic is in the wrong subject, so could somebody move it into OT? Sorry I started it in the wrong topic, I was in a hurry this morning.
- DH P.S. Somebody back up the Forums, before it's too late! |
i saw it on TV...Code Red is on the road tomorrow...the Internet will be slower and some Homepages are "hacked by chinese"
, but don't worry, privat PC's will be safe. Just the Homapages who have a link to a hacker (or have a hacker) homepage, will be beset...ok, keep cool when the internet will be slow tomorrow! :D Oº°'´¨`·–l[ (¯`'·.,¸·´¯`·Â*> :p<Â*·´¯`·¸,.·'´¯) ]l–·´¨`'°ºO |

Code Red was a harmless virus, Microsoft thought there will give a serious damage....but this was just a harmless worm (what a luck!) :D Now we can breathe again and search stuff in the world wide web without solicitude about our PC's!
