Daily Radar Gone...
I just went to do my regular check of Oddworld News and found that one of the best sources for gaming news on the net is no more... Daily Radar.
Daily Radar, for those of you who don't visit gaming sites, was one of the main sources of Oddworld news. They even gave one of our OddChat's coverage. I for one am quite shocked that this happened... you never think that such a large site will go down. Abe Babe... |
I didn't really like Daily Radar anyway. They have two or three popup ads that often froze up my computer.
|
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed, too. Their information was always pretty up to date, and the Q&A answered some important Xbox questions.
|
sydmans right, i had to restart my comp twice because of this stupid popup about ps2!
Anyhoo i guess it closed down because of money problems or somtin? |
I guess that's why they had to increase the number of ads of recent months... because they were on the verge of surviving.
The ads never froze my PC, but I always found them annoying. Neverless, ads or no ads, it's one less source of Oddworld and Xbox information and interviews now, which is always a bad thing. The main thing I liked about Daily Radar was the 24 hour news headlines... they often included a lot of smaller news that the other two main gaming sites (IGN and GameSpot) don't cover. Abe Babe... |
Actually a little fly that was on the wall over there at Daily Radar, one of my spies that is, tells me it was Nintendo that killed the beast Daily radar.
It was not money, the more ads the more cash they were getting. There was a problem with Daily Radar with Nintendo on some not permitted usage of game news, screenshots. A law suit was in the works, and on and on with details not really important. It cannot be confirmed, because I cannot betray the flies name, but that is what "did" Daily Radar in. Flies have too short a life span as it is, just know that the spy fly of mine knows all.And yes he was inside of Daily Radar. |
No Daily Radar, don´t close! NOO!! It was so young and so... *starts crying*
I´m sad ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

|
AAH! IT IS GONE!!! NO!
P.S. FreakyLA your signature is... different... |
Yaargghh! It's gone! No!
|
I read that a few other gaming sites are getting to that point..All big websites are getting hit by the low economy...everything is costing to much money..
I really hope that this stops soon, I hate to see great websites shutdown. |
I just found out that Daily Radar UK is still alive and running!
Hopefully the UK counterpart site has some good Oddworld news. At least they still have the gaming news headlines! :) Abe Babe... |
cool perhaps this will be a good site for Munch news! I would hate it if the Ow sites would close. but why does a site close ? it dosen´t cost anything to have a web page or?
What´s with my signature? |
Actually it can cost a lot of money to run a website... especially a large scale site like Daily Radar was.
Some of the costs involve are staff to work on it, a server to host it on, bandwidth (this is usually charged by the amount of people that visit the site), people to run the technical side, domain registration ... just to name a few. Even fan sites can cost money to run. For Oddworldian and Oddworld-Web there is cost of domain names and server space (I'm lucky however as a friend helps me there). In the short time I have been a Final Fantasy fan I have seen 2 major fan sites go down and another have problems cost wise. You see the more popular something is, the more people visit, and the end result is the more it costs (see bandwidth above). At the moment, Oddworld Forums is just a small community, but this has the potential to grow a lot when Munch is released. And this could mean more costs involved. We will come to that when it comes as it would be nice to have Oddworld Forums booming with visitors! :) Abe Babe... |
