Soulstorm - The Game Awards Trailer + Release Date
 

We got a new trailer with a "release date", Spring 2021.
Let's hope it's the last time they delay.

At the risk of falling for the same spiel again, it does feel like this release date is a little more certain this time. I bet COVID threw a big spanner into the works which might be why they missed the 2020 deadline. Still, the gameplay looks promising (and now we've seen that it's not all chaotic mudokon-murder-congas I'm a bit relieved). I love the spooky, spiritual vibe of this trailer too. Ugh, not gonna lie I'm hyped for Soulstorm all over again.

well it's a good trailer but i get the feeling it will delay again

Lorne put out a Facebook video saying that the game is feature-complete and just needs tuning and bugfixes, so Spring sounds like a plausible window.


Also, at 33s in that trailer Abe jumps on a floating mine. WTF?

It looks like he double jumps just before he hits it.

So I guess double jumping is a thing?

Urgh.

Some people have been wondering at this point if there's gonna be a lore reason in the game. I have a feeling there will be.

I think the only "lore" behind double jumping I've seen in video games is either with a jet pack, an air jump ability of some sort or with wings. Abe does have a new back pack/inventory... But my bets on "He can do it now cuz platformer lol."

This is what gave me hope too.

I mean, a good oddworld lore explanation would be that he gets some kind of power like the shrykull, maybe something related to birds instead of scrabs and paramites. If he can get tattoos to turn into a demigod, then why shouldn't he get another one for getting higher in the sky?

and there's also a shrykull shadow appearing

Yeah, but he got those other powers in the latter part of the games, after facing difficult challenges. I can't imagine that they'd hold off double-jumping until then, and if they did it'd be a letdown of a reward.

I suspect V_O_T is right.

could we see more power be awarded as we play say we get double-jumping at the start and other powers as we go along, or it could be a power up like exploding farts or all those drinks from MO

Certainly. I was just saying that double-jumping wouldn't be a special power on the same level as Shrykull or healing.
