First 4 Figures considers making Oddworld statues - They NEED your votes!
First 4 Figures is a statue company that has been active since the beginning of 2000 producing figures for Nintendo. The last couple of years they have been branching out greatly to other companies and franchises.
They have an active FB community, where consumers can communicate directly with the company about licenses and give feedback. Just recently F4F was approached by a licensor for Oddworld, assumingly Lorne Lanning. Asking if they were interested in producing statues of characters from Abe's Oddysee. And so the question has been asked to the consumers in the FB group. F4F Company director Alex Davis posted this "Hey guys! Been hit up - is Abe's Odyssey something that we want? I know there was a TT a while back but wanted to bring attention to this license again as there currently is an opportunity. Thanks guys!" If you want F4F to produce statues based on Abe's Oddysee, please join First 4 Figures Official Collectors Club on Facebook and cast your vote! https://www.facebook.com/groups/firs...71767786450947 IMPORTANT! You must join the group to see the actual post and be able to cast your vote! If you have any additional questions. Please feel free to reply or send me a PM. |
Hey, Lance_89, welcome to the forums ;)
I'll start with some feedback: We tend to get a lot of bots posting random advertisements as forum thread. My first impression was that you were one of them. As I read into it more, it seems more genuine than that, but you shouldn't phrase it as a bot would. Good luck with the AO toys :) |
Haha, yeah I totally understand how the post could seem like spam at first. I assure that the gesture is sincere though! Have been lurking around these forums from time to time, and just thought of spreading the info to you guys!
Oddworld inhabitants badly needs statues, seeing as the nowadays rare Oxmox statue is the only one out there. This is a great opportunity to change that! Sincerely hope that F4F could be the first company to pave way for more statue/figure Oddworld merchandise. When in doubt feel free to check out their website and see their quality for yourselves. www.first4figures.com |
Damn, I've always wanted Oddworld action figures. I guess statues would satisfy, though.

Thanks for sharing, I'll check out their FB. F4F's work is very good, their Crash and Spyro statues seem popular. My only concern is their price point. While the lightweight PVC figures are affordable and look great (Crash), their polystone line can be ridiculously expensive. Take a look at the crystal dragon statue from Spyro - over half a metre high and £400+ I think :fuzzle:
We've never had official Oddworld statues before, and I personally would love one. Day one buy, ideally. But, I've not got space for something that big, nor am I prepared to pay that much for it. After years waiting for an official figure/statue, it'd be ironic for one to finally release out of the price range of most fans. For me personally, a 1/6th scale or similar Abe, priced reasonably would be perfect. I really wouldn't mind it PVC to get the price down. |
Has anyone voted yet? I started going to the facebook page but there was a survey and I thought 'fuckit'.

It is now 315 no to 270 yes. Looks like this one was a big L, boys. |
Yeah, the form to get in the community kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I just entered vague replies and was granted access 20min later.
Just had a look at the prices of the figures and ouch! This is seriously going to hurt my wallet. |

I think of No votes more as a way of knowing how many in total that has voted. For F4F there is always the amount of Yes that makes or breaks a poll. The threshold for a successful poll is somewhere around 700-800 Yes votes. If we reach that, then there is a green light. So keep on voting if you want to see this get made and please spread the information to any Oddworld fan you might know. :) Official polls are run from time to time to gauge interest in a line. They never really die either so always a good idea to cast your vote. This poll is kind of special since it is directly associated with a license holder. A very good chance of getting this made if the poll reaches its target. |

That said, I'd be down for a badass Scrab statue. Anything else, not so much. |
our response to all this is on our Discord.

I think there was a reason OWI_Alex didn't just quote the response...

Yeah, considering I have essentially ceased all use of Facebook, there's no way I'm jumping through multiple hoops to vote in a survey to have something potentially made. Nice if it happens, but the company seems a bit cliquey for me I'm afraid.

Currently the poll has 305 Yes and 339 No. Amount of Yes is the only thing that means something. No, is more to keep track of how many that has voted.
These numbers are actually very good for a poll that is only a few days old! Typically F4Fs polls nowadays need somewhere around 700 votes to be considered successful. Just needs to climb a bit more. F4F Company Director Alex Davis has clearly stated that, F4F has been presented an opportunity to work on this license. So, if the fans show enough support, it seems possible to happen. |
You've said that already ;)

People on the page are questioning (quite rightly) how a small poll of a closed niche group could possibly determine demand for a product like this. It does seem very odd.
According to the comments on the page, it seems the largest fanbase on First 4 Figures are Zelda fans, who seem to be voting 'No' to anything not Zelda-related. Apparently what F4F makes seems to be some kind of collector community decision, and the majority would rather the company's time be spent making more Zelda merch instead of something new. If OWI want to make a statue, another Kickstarter would no doubt be a huge success, given the popularity Abe's Origins and ESCtoy campaigns. |

Various Facebook pages have application forms, just to hinder bots and the like. No need to bash if it offends you. |
:
We all know that recent Kickstarter for the Oddworld: Abe's Origins Artbook has been very successful and that the demand for Oddworld merch is big in reality. Gathering from this, I do think that it should be an attractive choice for most statue companies to aquire the Oddworld license. The demographic of the active voting members of the F4F Collectors Group might be niche and most probably not representable of what the demand would be if F4F or any other statue company for that matter, launched a statue line based on the Oddworld license. This is also why I see it fit to try and spread this information to you fans as an opportunity that could result in something positive. |
:
Polls are a great way for companies to both assess how a possible customer demand looks like currently and a way to present data on this to potential future licensing partners. I am sorry if I have offended anyone, trying to create a hype. I am in no way F4F advertisement personel that get paid for doing this. Just an avid fan of Oddworld since playing Abe's Exoddus on PC back in 1999. |
Yeah, this whole thing stinks of shadyness. Not on board I'm afraid. I'll trust official OWI announcements for merch like the Origins book which I happily pledged to, not weird cliquey Facebook group polls. It's probably quite lucky it's a closed group, or I'd say it had a chance of bringing negative press toward OWI.
