Soulstorm ARG - New website found

"MoCrtl.co" was the clue we had to use. I naively tried this site and it worked. There are a lot to find out on it, so let's get to work :)

There were dozens of clues, some were (we thought) really, really obvious!

Havoc 08-10-2017 01:10 AM

Oh god I'm getting early 90's flashbacks.

Xavier 08-10-2017 01:11 AM

Well done Nemin!

Alex, one day you should do a retrospective and show us all the clues we missed and what they were supposed to mean.

What I found so far:

Decode binary to ascii:

Those codes look like Base64 encryptions but only return gibberish when converted to ASCII, maybe we need to remove stuff from them as well:

You can't usually except something clear when you decrypt a Base64 code. This looks like cache data to me, but it could be something important. I'll try something later (hoping I can get something out of it).

There are two numbers in this, "8" and "2". Reminds you something? :_e_: :_t_: , the 8 and 2 emojis in the OWI server that are also the first two letters of "Etno".

Edit 2: The Number 8291 is also mentioned in another part of the site's source:

The @ code... Could it be missing some segments? If it has the 8 and 2, then I suppose that there is another segment with 9 and 1

When lining up the # symbols, it looks like there may be a pattern emerging:

@Manco the discord already did that:

It's the top of the 1029 logo. (Picture by user Dizma)

It just occured to me that the P. P. P. in the page title stands for "Prestige. Power. Profits.".

It's the description of the MagogCartel twitter account:
https://twitter.com/magogcartel

You can see the ppp patern again later in the code:
THE ApMpApZING

DB_PP_PRODUCTTEXT

EDIT: Looked some more in the Base64-like codes.

I have the feeling those are Base64 codes but with some noise in it.
The same way the binary code had occurences of "1029" in it preventing us to uncode it directly.

Unfortunately I don't see any patern or familiar code in there that could be removed.
The only thing I noticed was "IfedZIRO" and tried to replace it with a "0" but that didn't work :p

STM 08-11-2017 04:23 AM

There's a fun twitter beef going on between the Magog Cartel and Spirit of 1029 Twitter feeds at the mo'.

Xavier 08-11-2017 05:07 AM

The upper case letters in the last @MagogCartel tweets spell WE KNOW.
Looks like SO1029 is messing with them. :D

Hello guys, been out of the loop for a while. I noticed that on the @MagogCartel in the tweets starting here, the caps form the sentence WEKNOW. Haven't found any reference to it around here, so I thought I'd just post it, maybe there's more to it.

The numbers in the last couple of @MagogCartel tweets are forming the 8291 code.
Could it be SO1029 interfering again?

EDIT:

Looks like we need to fill in the blanks. Using the 8291 code we get 8124,92110.
Not sure how we're supposed to use that.

Xavier 08-14-2017 06:27 AM

Ok we figured out how to use "-1-4,-2-10":

This tells us to look at the History, the Twitter history.

This means we have all we need to progress.

The "-1-4,-2-10" code actually tells us to take the 4th word from the previous tweet (-1) and take the 10th word of the tweet even before (-2)

-1-4 = "fish"

-2-10: "blow"

Together they spell blowfish, which is a cipher:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowfish_(cipher)

We'll most likely need it to decrypt the base64 codes, all we need to do now is to find the decryption key.

EDIT:

The password is "8291" with CBC mode

The decrypted text reads:

^_^U_VDXisistrueorfalseallforprofitinterestsindustrialagriculturalMudosprovidehighestpossiblereturni nvestmentsoverheadsdreamslimitedpowergiganticbadgeleadersproductMeechMotorstravelexpertlytrainedSlig SecurityForcessuccessfulundertakingemploymentvastsentientsecurespecialisthabitationzonesbenefitfacto riesfoundriesfarmlandsstabilitymillionsundertakingsCartelmanagementselflesslyrepresentativesresponsi blemunicipalvastidyllicsettlementsunderconstructionpleasesubscribeandlinkandfollowandlikeandbuyandbu yandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyandbuyatmagogcartel

The part with "please subscribe" lead us to:

Not sure this is an official ARG account as it's completely empty right now.

The question is, do we need to use blowfish on the smaller base64?:fuzconf:

I think there’s probably more to do with the decrypted string of text:

:

^_^ U_V DX is is true or false all for profit interests industrial agricultural Mudos provide highest possible return investments overheads dreams limited power gigantic badge leaders product Meech Motors travel expertly trained Slig Security Forces successful undertaking employment vast sentient secure specialist habitation zones benefit factories foundries farmlands stability millions undertakings Cartel management selflessly representatives responsible municipal vast idyllic settlements under construction please subscribe and link and follow and like and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy and buy at magog cartel
I think it’s odd they would include so much text just to drop the hint about a Youtube channel. There’s a significant amount of alliteration (“is is”, “interests industrial”, “Meech Motors” etc.) so I think this is a possible clue.

There’s also a handful of capitalized words, all of which are nouns from the Oddworld games:

:

^_^ U_V DX Mudos Meech Motors Slig Security Forces Cartel
But curiously the final “magog cartel” is left lowercase.

Hints from Pete in the Discord;

"OWI_Pete - Today at 10:08 AM
there's still something to find, based on clues you got in the middle of trying to solve the last code that it appears you kind of glossed over a little bit."

"OWI_Pete - Today at 10:24 AM
I think, if I was putting out snippets of text that were meant to lead a group of people (you know, just some random people... hypothetically...) then I'd somehow flag the stuff they're meant to pay closer attention to with a familiar trigger."

"OWI_Pete - Today at 10:27 AM
so maybe the stuff you're supposed to pay closer attention to has elements that have been recurring before within the wider structures of this activity. So, you see those triggers and they cause you to focus on the thing they're contained within, which might also contain some hints towards the next thing you're supposed to be looking for."

"
OWI_Pete - Today at 10:29 AM
You know... if I was doing it, it wouldn't just be random stuff, it would be smartly thought out to funnel you into gently noticing what needs to be noticed. Background falvour but with flags to indicate what's important. If I was was doing it. Which I'm not.
So, if I can step inside this 4th wall for a moment, Xavier noticed some pattern in some tweets and pointed it out a couple of times. What else is in those tweets? Anything you've seen before? Anything that's familiar language in your interactions with these messages in the past? If so, then maybe those tweets are important in some way, right? So, they might be worth paying attention to."

"
OWI_Pete - Today at 10:38 AM
those 4 tweets give you: 8291. Then they give you PPP. Then the last one says "what you're looking for", "help you find it" and "Discover". They all have only one thing in common. And there's one more big clue in there too."

More to come, maybe.

Edit; After quick chat about the possible links between the last two tweets I tried a bunch of words in the magogcartel.com site and found that putting /buy takes you to http://www.oddworld.com/buy-games/
