Soulstorm Brew Replica

Hello, as most regulars know, OWI have said they will be attending EGX in September.

Myself and a bunch of others plan to go and I though now is the perfect time to make those SSB replicas I've wnated to do. I'm going to make/bring two Soulstorm Brew replicas for decoration/cosplay while at the event.

Though I'd make a thread as documentation of my progress for anyone interested.

The front label of SSB is rather easy to find but the back one is nowhere to be found so I took the best quality image I could from the Oddworld Wiki page (http://oddworld.wikia.com/wiki/SoulStorm_Brew) and set to work on making the colours block as the image is heavy with shading.

Once the colours are block, I'll be putting in nutritial info of the brew found on OW Library (http://oddworldlibrary.net/toe/SoulStorm_Brew) and then making the cut off section of the label.

I've already ordered two bottle holders for the SSB, (http://www.magicmead.co.uk/product/b...t-strap-250ml/) and I have made a start on the labels colours.

More progress soon.

Nice idea! This should be in the Fan-Corner forum tho.

Moved it.

You can find the official list of SSB ingredients over here:

How are you going about making the labels? It might be easier to use Inkscape or Illustrator to trace out the shapes of the original labels as vectors – that way they’ll be much crisper and have smoother lines, and they’ll print way better.

I've been using an online program called Lunapics. Varrok suggested Inkspace and I tried it but it's way too over complicated.
Edit; I have since been pressured into using Inkscape and I'm slowly learning.

Update

After being....."convinced" to use InkScape I sent to work on recreating the back label.
After losing all my work, twice, some help from Varrok and spending my entire Saturday working on this, I have made a decent amount of progress.

Messing around with the "BONE" and "-TRA" part has been a nightmare to say the least, took a fair few hours to get the size, shape and colours right, most of which had to be changed manually.

I still have yet to sort out all the letters as they are similar to the original but not similar enough for me to be happy with so I've spent the second half of the day tweeking small sections of the letters and such, and it's still a way from being finished.

Hey,
Sorry about the long silence, work happened.
I've recently started working on the label much more now I have a more stable work schedule and while most the changes are small, one or two big steps of progress have been made in the past few days. :)

I am slightly torn about a certain detail, the line under "Nutrition Facts" as at the end in the original there's a break in the line which I'm assuming isn't a planned part of the label (wear and tear) so I'm not sure whether to include this in my version or not?

Looks cool, keep it :D

Varrok 09-14-2017 02:21 AM

The background shouldn't be 100% black, but more neutral color. With a bit more red.

Vanilla ✜ 09-14-2017 06:23 AM

We talked about this in Discord and a little red hue has been added to make it look a little more real, and there will a little easter egg in the bar code if everything goes well, nothing big mind you, just a lil something.

So the label is just about complete and I'm very happy with it. I'm still working out where to put one last lil detail that if someone follows, will lead them here so they can see the making of this label and it's progress.

Varrok 09-20-2017 11:04 AM

Put more details into proof-reading :)

Xavier 09-21-2017 08:59 AM

Looks great. Can't wait to see the final result tomorrow. :)

The effort was worth it

Night before EGX I had a grand total of 9, the next day I packed all the bottles, 2 minutes after I left the hotel room one popped and ruined almost all the labels apart from 1. Naturally the survivor went to Lorne and he was very pleased to receive it, he wanted a photo with myself and the bottle.
All the effort was worth it.
Huge thank you to Varrok for peer pressuring me into using InkScape and helping me through my dumb mistakes

That is an extraordinary replica. Short of making your own bottle shape, I can't think of any way you could possibly have gotten a better looking result than this. Props to you Vanilla.
