What's wrong?

my monitor keeps clicking...

it clicks every-so-often and it always clicks when i shut down...

the sound is not ACTUAL clicking, it's a hard to explain sound...

all i need to know is why it's doing this and wether i need to replace it...

If it is indeed not the relay that changes resolutions, then it could be something more serious. Somethimes monitors will sound like cracking glass, *pop*---*pop*-*pop* or a sequential click every 3/4 second or so. If this sounds like the problem, then the high voltage flyback transformer is about to go out in a blaze of glory! You'll see the picture start to shrink and move around, then smell burning plastic and ozone. I would recommend getting a new monitor.

****I forgot to mention that the flyback transformer is the horizintal oscillator for the CRT. DO NOT attempt to repair this yourself, as it supplies an average of 40,000 volts. If you touch THAT while it is still charged up and you're grounded, INSTANT DEATH!! I just wanted to make this clear, because my friends see me working on monitors all the time, and then they go and attempt repair. I always make sure to tell them about the serious risks involved; not to mention tube implosion..

awww crap, monitors are expensive...

what type's the best value for money???

Pilot 09-22-2001 08:02 PM

I don't know what brands are available in the UK, but I recommend Hitachi and Viewsonic. KDS makes decent monitors for the money. I have a storage shed full of monitors, which I give to anyone that needs one. But in this case that would be incredibly impractical.

oh yeah, the picture also starts to disappear for a split-second

but that's not important anymore...
*goes to PC World and finds it's closed because it's 40 past midnight*

Well then, that's exactly what's happening. Bad flyback.
