Favorite concept art?

I've been browsing through here recently, and I'm curious to know everyone's favorite pieces of concept/rendered art from Oddworld are. They can be silly and meme-stic, beautiful and breath-taking, anything!

Here's mine!

This should probably be in Oddworld Discussion, as this Board is for fan-creations. Just letting you know for next time. ;)

TOGG is actually Xavier's website. He's done a phenomenal job archiving Oddworld, and we thank him every day for it!

My favourite piece would either be this depiction of Nolybab:

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...t/CAOM0021.png

Or Molluck's Trial:

http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...AMO0072-me.jpg

Both images serve the same purpose: They emphasise just how little of Oddworld we've actually seen, and how small Abe is. He's not even a cog in the machine; he's a little speck of dust, stuck on an old dollop of grease that dripped to the bottom of the machine long ago.

Gunnr 03-23-2017 10:09 PM

Well, I can't seem to put the pics I want up right now(my phone apps are being infuriating)

But I will say one of my top favorite section to browse in the TOGG art are the ones about the Oddworld movie. So many interesting things, events, encounters with other chars( Abe and Stanger) and the landscapes.(oh the landscape concepts<3). A movie would be a great opprotunity to fully display the vastness of the oddworld setting with its beautiful alien and yet familiar wilderness.

It's also fun to wonder how these would/ could elaborate on the intricacies of story between chars, from scrub to khanzumer and everything in between in this nature vs industrialism venture. Love this site
But I gush.

Yeah Xaxior is pretty swell init'e?

This Slig one. I love the engine at the back of the pants and I wish it was kept in. Not so much the flag or the gun though.

Aaaaw thanks guys, comments like those really make it all worth :D
It's always good to see people appreciate TOGG

I wish I had more time, there are so many other things I'd like to do for TOGG and the Oddworld Library but my "real" work is eating too much time. Unfortunately there's only so much time you can dedicate to Oddworld you know :p

Also I see you guys are linking to "resized" pictures, just so you know, there's an option in the top right corner of TOGG to get the original file. Some pictures in there are absolutely huge :)

Anyway, one of my favorite pieces all time is the one below. In my opinion it perfectly captures how two different cultures on Oddworld can really be "alien" to each others. (Fun fact, this piece was featured in Spectrum years ago)

My favorite piece of concept art happens to be of the Glukkons and their anatomy. I can't link the pic right now, as I'm on mobile but you'll usually find it when looking up Glukkon on Google images. They have such an interesting design.

Glukkon anatomy gives me nightmares. They walk on their hands.

SligValet 03-26-2017 12:55 AM

Thats what I alway loved about Glukkons, in their suits theyre tall and intimidating, without it theyre absolutely pathetic looking tiny baby bods.

Varrok 03-26-2017 01:17 AM

You wouldn't say that is such creature appeared right next to you. Keep in mind, they're pretty tall.

SligValet 03-26-2017 01:53 AM

They don't look like they could accomplish much regardless with those spindly arms, hell even their legs look slightly more muscular than their hands.

STM 03-26-2017 03:45 AM

Aren't gluks like 8ft tall?

kjjcarpenter 03-26-2017 04:31 AM

Concerning the average size of glukkons:

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...5&d=1068691489

:

if you are reffering to this picture given by Alf: it's absolutly wrong...
on the old site they said:
Abe: 5''8'
Molluck: 7''

and on that pic it's:
Abe: 6''
Molluck: 10''5' !!!

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...6&d=1068695549

:

I checked the manual and it's again something elseeeeee
arg!!!

Somewhere between 7' and 10'5". :p

oblivionkeeper23 03-26-2017 02:08 PM

On the topic of canon heights, I'm mad because Abe is supposed to be some wimp buT HE'S TALLER THAN ME

Crashpunk 03-27-2017 09:35 AM

Tall doesn't equal confident. Your height is irrelevant if the Sligs have guns. :)

Varrok 03-27-2017 09:38 AM

Glukkons must have serious troubles pooping

Xavier 03-27-2017 11:53 AM

Well that's a blast from the past :p

STM 03-28-2017 08:27 AM

Xav you were a lil babby <3

Gunnr 03-28-2017 02:03 PM

So I'm taller than a slig but shorter than Abe :p
The chars are all pretty darn tall, I would be intimidated meeting any one of em'. Vykkers and interns at 9ft tall? What a nightmare :(

On a side note on the glukk anatomy pic, I've never noticed that glukks have a singular claw/toenail thing on each dangling foot. Do you they'd be dangerous if they swung their floppy legs at you?lol, ew

Well that's a blast from the past :p

I thought you'd like it, Xav. ;)

Also, after thinking about this, if the average height of a glukkon truly is somewhere around 10 feet, then Maggie is almost twice the size than I originally envisioned her. That is terrifying. She must be like 200 feet tall!

Wircea 03-28-2017 11:18 PM

I want to see a wild glukkon in the series that jumps and leaps around.
I mean, there are for sure some that didn't get influenced by the industrial life.

Xorlidyr 03-29-2017 01:46 AM

Those still have legs.

Apparently there are no wild glukkons.

:

No, All the Glukkons are mean, stogie smok'n, CEO and junior, wannabe CEO types. Glukkons would have a tough time in Mudos on their own 'cause they don't have much in the way of hunting/gathering skills.

Wircea 04-06-2017 04:27 AM

Oh shit. Well, there go my dreams.
I wonder if that means Lulu is also a mean douche that won't heistate to do evil in order to make more profit.

I also admire all of the conceptual artwork for Munch's Oddysee, mostly for the nostalgia of a game that never released. I remember looking at some of these snippets—alongside screenshots of those visualisations—in a Playstation magazine back in 2000, marvelling at how huge and immersive Oddworld was becoming.

Here are some of my favourite:

Mugs Against Mudokons

Splinterz
http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...AMO0038-me.jpg

Rainmaker
http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...AMO0016-me.jpg

This style will always be the real Munch's Oddysee for me. The one we never saw.

(They also remind me of early-internet sprite comics.)

Abe looks cool and cute here

All this amazing concept art is making wish i had time to make tiny rl models :p

No idea what use theyd have beside just being a cool collectable

Varrok 04-09-2017 12:56 AM

This game should've been like that concept art: prerendered 2D but in 3D perspective. That'd allow for 3D movement without sacrificing art-style

This. I couldn't agree more.
