Soulstorm ARG - The Grid Puzzle
Let's have a dedicated thread for the investigation of the the Grid Puzzle.
Spirit Of 1029 provided us a shortcut to bypass it but still expects us to solve is to prove we're worthy:
For reminder here is what we have so far: The Material: The original page: http://www.1029.io/repository/asset9...yshowthetruth/ The grid: http://www.1029.io/repository/asset9...truth/grid.jpg The comments in the page: :
Using the Caesar cipher with shift 13 the first code reads: "Discard what yof don't need". Using the Caesar cipher with shift 18 the second code reads: "Let the numbers guide you". Note that the "yof" should have been "you" but the code got auto-corrected
Using the Caesar cipher with shift 23 the code reads: "Sometimes the answers are more simple than they appear. Discard what you don't need. Be the storm."

I forgot to post this on Tuesday:
http://m.imgur.com/a/9Heia A little bit of messing around I did with the grid puzzle and the grid key. 6,4 is weird, since it seems like it should logically be two different pieces. (The triangles should go on top of the logo, while the curve would be at the bottom.) |
We know two things about this that seem relevant...
1. "backbreaking" was not the key, despite being comprised of letters in the position that the grid coordinates suggested. 2. there are extra numbers behind the ":" in the number string that we don't currently have a use for. Maybe finding a use for those numbers will lead to the correct letters needed for the key (which we already have, somehow, so we can probably work from both ends to find the method)... |
:
Ok that means we still have no idea on how to use those string and coordinates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|
Hey! I actually have some free time today so I'll try to help out with the grid puzzle, though I'm not sure how much help I'll be lol :D
So I missed it the other day but I'm guessing the 'key' was the number we got that opened up that last page with all the photos (1173418569) but spelled out? probably not using the same code that 1029 encrypted it with on the Twitter post though, but that at least is a start if that is true. I'm not sure if there was any methods that have been tried already on the grid that we know for sure don't work, so I'm just gonna go into it clean and try anything I can think of and hopefully I'll find something :) |
Me too.
The first line of coordinates has 8 dashes, so use the first 8 coordinates and discard the other. Then apply True and false. Use the 6 dashes of the following line on the first 6 coordinates of that line. And so on. |
Hey guys just found this. You can solve the grid as a Shikaku using this coordinates:
/\//\\//5,1:4.1,2:8.1,3:2.3,3:2.4,3:3.7,3:3.1,5:3.4,5:9.5,5:2.7,5:4.7,6:6.3,7:3. dont know if this is anything maybe is just a coincidence. https://i.gyazo.com/5c6c390bc2204cb7...c7e22d9905.png |
I don't understand the shikaku.?
EDIT: I do now I noticed something else. When you try to repuzzle the grid there is one tile that seems to have both the top and the bottom of the logo on it. Does it have to be cut in half? I can even link that problem with a problem I found in the coordinates. When True and False applied, there is one duplicate. 2,4 Depending on where you start counting, thats exactly the spot of the awkward tile. You follow? How do I post a picture from my phone, so i can clarify. |

EDIT: When I tried to solve Shikaku, I had a few extra cells - the value of digits is not enough to fill them. This one: \\\\/\2,1:2.3,1:2.6,1:4.1,2:4.3,2:2.3,4:4.5,5:2.6,5:3.7,5:3.4,7:8.5,7:3.7,6:4. |
Ha I can't believe I came up with this mess below, but missed that one. There were some ideas I tried with my idea, that I'll now try with yours

These puzzles require the sum of the numbers to be 49 (for x 7x7 grid). This is correct for the first set of numbers, but not for the rest. Considering Alex kind of hinted we're going in the right way, I assume the slashes are to key to "fixing" the puzzles.

I've applied the key grid to the grid puzzle in every orientation I can think of, including those with the X and Y axes flipped.
http://m.imgur.com/a/MEbgG Could be useful. |
I've been growing quite attached to this grid puzzle now.
I feel almost obliged to try and solve it. Will help where I can. |
Good Work!! |
My congratulations to Dizma! Apparently I'm just not enough skilled to do Shikaku.
|
Wow, that's great!
If we go back to the letters that were unscrambled to be "BACKBREAKING" B K C B I K E A G A N R And then apply the numbers to them, does that get us the number of times the letter must be used? But then not sure how E=5OUEHRA(U?) fits in. So, B-4, K-8, C-2, B-2, I-3, K-3, E-3, A-9, G-2, A-4, N-6, R-3 |
It makes sense now!
EDIT: NVM the other 3 sets of coordinates don't work. I made a rudimentary grid on a puzzle solving website with the the letters added in: http://i.imgur.com/4b5Kfje.png?1 EDITEDIT: NVM It's already done...sigh |
If you overlay the last letter string (the one that starts with a '/' ) on the Shikaku puzzle, the top left letters in each rectangle can be annagrammed to form the word "Subjectivism"! This must be how the key was intended to be found.
http://i.imgur.com/bFaXmRR.png I didn't see anything pointing to the order of the letters, but it's not too difficult just to anagram it. If there is supposed to be an order, letters S and I can be swapped a bit since they appear more than once. http://i.imgur.com/2PYGiwP.png |

I would send this to OWI and see what they say?

Wow! Nice one Randomiser

Congrats Randomiser! So glad to see the back of this headache of a puzzle :fuzblink: |

So, how long was it before the next puzzles were released after doing the first image?
|
Unless I'm missing something this isn't totally solved.
Ok we have the key, subjectivism, but that was used on the string of characters in this tweet :
which was the path to the webpage. But without that message we would just have the word subjectivism and nothing to use it on. Am I missing something here? Was that intended to be sent from the start? I assumed it was only sent because we weren't getting anywhere. |
Yeah that's a good observation actually. Does it have something to do with the other strings of text?
