Currency in Oddworld

Okay so I thought this was interesting. Whilst trawling through the Oddworld Wikia (well done, Havoc) today, I came across the page for moolah. There's an image on there of a SW banknote for 50 moolah and I'm just wondering, can anyone make out what the stamp on the right hand is/says?

The obvious bits are ADONAY ELOHIM AHE on the outer Northwest part of the circle. Both Adonay and Elohim mean god. I don't know what AHE means though...

Then, in the inner circle there's 'ZEBAOTH, THEOSKA, ADONAY(?), and right in the middle it says, 'SCHAIDE' upsidedown.

Does anyone know anything more about this? Is there any meaning to be extrapolate or is it nonsense?

You made me laugh. That's interesting though.

Is Oddworld Wikia better than The Oddworld Library?

Wil 03-20-2016 10:13 AM

It's certainly more up to date and comprehensive.

In some areas yes, in some areas no. Depends on what you're looking for. The Wikia actually references TOL on occasion.

On topic: I can barely make out the words of that stamp, how you did it is beyond me. But if I had to guess it's something along the lines of the "In God we trust" but Google isn't helping with any of those other words. Ahe might be Hebrew and the entire thing is probably some religious reference. Shoot a Tweet to Lorne, maybe he'll tell you.

Ah cheers Wil :)

I wonder if we'll ever see any other currencies in Oddworld. I know that because of its strength it's used by other families other than the Magog gluks, a la how Zimbabwe and Iran use dollars.

I'm presuming there are lots of currencies on Oddworld. It would be fun to see some of the corrupt stuff going on between them.

For what it's worth, I don't think the words and patterns should be read as much more than stuff that makes the money look like money. It was never meant to be scrutinized in that much detail, fun as it is.

I figured once I read your thread. Yeah, I imagine there's gotta be money traders and stuff on Oddworld, I wonder if it's as big a deal on Oddworld as it is here. Wars are waged on Earth over currency values.

'SCHAIDE'

Damn, he beat us to that!

Here's my interpretation: Lorne has been clear that there's a level of occultism at the higher levels of power on Oddworld. Occultism on Earth tends to borrow heavily from other religions, mainstream and otherwise. Judaism tends to be a common target, I assume because it's the oldest of the extant large Western religions. Also, Judaism has a mystical stream (Kabbalah) that hardly anyone knows about, is incredibly opaque, yet with enough minor details that you can cherry pick to sound profound.

Now, I'm no expert in occultism. Most of the above is speculation. But I wouldn't be surprised if words like Adonai and Elohim are common in various streams of Earth occultism, so Lorne referencing that on Oddworld makes sense.

Or maybe it's just Jews love money/ manipulate the banks.

Varrok 03-20-2016 01:54 PM

I wouldn't be surprized if Lanning thought Obama casts demonic spells from Satan.
as opposed to demonic spells from Jesus

Sherry has Jewish heritage, so I doubt they'd go in that direction.

EDIT: Never mind.
