New n Tasty character renders, cutscene details

Apologies if this has already been posted before, I feel like I’ve seen this stuff before but searching the forums didn’t turn up any results.

Tom Bramall (character designer at JAW) has posted up some detailed looks at the cutscenes and character models he created for New n Tasty on his portfolio site, including Abe, Molluck, Sligs, and other creatures.

The main page is here: http://www.tomb-art.com/#!abesoddysee/nzwf3

Characters: http://www.tomb-art.com/#!abe/zah5p

Included is a live turntable view which can also show different texture layers of the model.

Abe, Molluck, and the Sligs can also be found on Bramall’s Artstation profile: https://www.artstation.com/artist/tomb

Cutscenes: http://www.tomb-art.com/#!abecutscenes/wx151

The page includes a video of all the cutscenes, high-res stills, and some details on how the cutscenes were made:
:

As the most senior member of the art team at the time, the task of doing R&D and establishing a pipeline to create New 'n' Tasty's cutscenes fell to me.

The cutscenes were created entirely within Unity both for ease of asset crossover and to match the visuals in the game for seamless transitions. Animations for the characters were handled by an outsource company which I cleaned up and implemented. Shots were populated using assets from the environment art team as well as many bespoke assets I created, then lit with art direction from Lorne Lanning. I worked closely with Lorne over a 6 month period, created numerous unique particle effects in-engine and made extensive use of post FX and compositing in Sony Vegas to achieve the final look.

What an adorable ass! I'm searching for an ARG.

They look frigging incredible. Very good quality all round.

Molluck's lack of a butt is mildly disturbing for me, but yeah, it's a shame we couldn't get the same models in game, though seeing as how it's fairly zoomed out most of the game, the poly-count wouldn't really make that much of a difference unless you really REALLY zoomed in.

Those are some pretty neat models. I think I saw the twitter account tweet to an ArtStation page not too long ago. Glad to see that they're sharing this kind of stuff with us.

It'd be cool to see a Glukkon that actually uses his hands properly, maybe with a set of robotic legs similar to that of a Slig's.

Xavier 03-21-2016 09:39 PM

Glukkons are way too proud to do that.
