D00M
D00M will be released May of this year, and I am looking forward to this one.
Is anyone else going to buy D00M? |
DOOM is an amazing game and I will totally buy it.
The original one. Doom4's gonna be pretty meh |
The people making this game have no understanding of why Doom is so well loved. The gameaplay looks like bland corridor walk and pew. The gameplay demos have involved a lot of walking in a straight line towards enemies and just shooting them. No room for side strafing.
Multiplayer looks bad too. Loadouts, slow movement, gimmicky transformations. They talk about how fast and fun it will be but everything indicates yet another bland lowest common denominator console-centric shooter. I mean look, if you're Bathesda and you're making a game like this then I can understand why they're playing it safe. Just don't set it up to be like a classic Quake or Doom game because it isn't. |
Bethesda is like that rich, spoiled millionaire's kid. Buys rights to franchises just to fuck with them, and you can do nothing about it.
|
I don't enjoy the original D00M anymore because I have developed some kind of motion sickness with it. :|
I think this D00M will be much better than D00M 3, I look forward to snapping some maps together too. |
The snapmap stuff has some potential, but also looks pretty limited to corridors :/
I want nice open spaces so that we can have actual combat, rather than camping. Also vertical maps. In other words I'm just going to keep playing Quake Live and Reflex. >:( |
The new Doom just looks like every other bland FPS. Even the boxart is generic as fuck.
If you want to play a FPS which replicates the feel of the classics, Go buy the reboot of Shadow Warrior. It was a great game. And since Shadow Warrior 2 is coming out soon, I'll be buying that instead of Doom. |
There already were jokes about the new Doom cover art, shortly after it was showed publicly for the first time
Doom franchise is a good example when it comes to judging a book (a game) by its cover: ![]() |
The Doom 1 boxart is so gorgeously typical of the era it spawned from; crazy, over the top, fuck loads going on, literal war scene. I miss that shit.

Here' what I'm worried about: -Long Load times Doom is all about instant action. If you have a copy of the original or Doom 2 boot them up right now and start the first level. It should take you maybe 15 seconds. Try it, you'll see. Now do the same with Doom 3. It takes longer, I'll just tell you that because who in their right mind still has Doom 3 installed? -Numbing Violence It's going to have to continuously ramp things up or else it will become boring. This is my biggest concern; the Campaign is supposed to clock in at 20 hours but I'd be surprised if they can keep it consistently gruesome for the duration of that. The violence is the only thing holding it up at this point. -Stupid Bullshit Bethesda is a shitty game company that pretties up dull games with some nice color-coordination and voice acting. They make the most boringest games available because they know that more creative people will just mod them into something decent. They make tepid, unexciting products and Skyrim is fucking garbage. Now I don't want to play it at all. Thanks guys. |
i love Doom. Doom 1 and 2 are great games, the originals. Doom 3 i didn't love but i didn't hate it either. it was ok. not being able to shoot at the same time as shining a torch was fucking stupid though, i mean who's idea was that? a lot of that game is set in the dark so maybe they were trying to add to the fear factor by doing that, but i thought it was a dumb thing to do. i just prefer to see what i'm shooting at. i know there are mods to fix it but, damn. i'm pretty sure i first played that game on the original Xbox too, so there were no mods for my sorry arse. i had to play it as is.
i hope Doom 4 pulls it off, but i won't be able to play it anyway because i is poor. which is a shame because i love the Doom universe and all the lore. the demons were good too. the cyberdemon from the first two games was scary, and so was the pinky and hell knight from the third game. |
Hey, Mac Sirloin's alive

The way I see it is, good gore can enhance a game like this, but it doesn't make it. Maybe I'm being too harsh based of what I've seen and heard, but I have low expectations. I have good second hand reports that the multiplayer is trash though, from the extensively leaked alpha. |
Good gore is nothing if the gameplay is lacking. Which is pretty much my initial thoughts in a nutshell really.
|
The gore was pretty generic looking, I always liked the gibs physics from the first Gears of War, a shame no other game really has the same thing really, the later games certainly didn't.
|
Hmm seems a lot of negative opinions which is unfortunate.
On the flip side I managed to get over my motion sickness by simply not playing DOOM in full screen, with a smaller window it's much easier on my eyes. Hopefully the game does have enough positives to make it a worthy eddition to D00M. I'll be sure to post about it here and any SnapMap things I make. |
I'm sure it'll be fun enough. This is just our initial reaction.
|
Motion sickness must be tough.
Especially because I liked Oculus Rift very much, I don't usually have that kind of problems but even for me it's hard to use for too long, not too mention people with motion sickness. |
Personally I can't wait for the new DOOM. It seems like it's going to be one of those games that's mindless but in a very good way.

The multiplayer looks identical to the Doom 3 multiplayer from what I've seen, maybe a bit faster. I suppose doubling down and curbstomping the enemy MVP will be pretty cathartic, but not if I can't rocket jump as well. What I'm REALLY worried about, now that I think about it, is what happened with the new Star Wars Battlefront. The only people I see playing when I occasionally load it up have a star wars related name, because the game is actually pretty dull and frustrating more than it is fun. I'm hoping they actually have the game halfway completed, is what I'm saying. |
Doom 3 multiplayer was a more traditional AFPS, coming between Quake 3 and Quake 4. New Doom has loadouts, which were universally hated in Quake Live by regulars, newbies and old players alike. I really don't know why they'd go down that route again, except for a simplified lolconsole game.
The slow pace of D3 probably came from the shitty MP maps - it looks really corridor based. Doom 4 will have exactly the same problems in map design because of how Snapmap works. It probably is a bit faster, because players get more off the spawn. Also nobody really played Doom 3 MP from what I gather? It died off fairly fast at least. It did have some short lived competition - CPL picked it up in 2004 so guys like Fatal1ty played it, but it got dropped for Painkiller in 2005 which in turn got dropped for Quake 4 in 2006. I think it was the main 1v1 game at QuakeCon 2004 and 2005, again until Quake 4 came out. They all went back to Quake 3 in the end anyway, and then Quake Live which is mostly the same. |

Original DOOM is modded to the point it has almost literally everything

It looks cool. Ill think about it.
|
I'll probably rent it.
You can still rent games, right? |
Well since Blockbuster isn't a thing anymore, I don't think so.
|
There's Gamefly.
