Speedrunning
Yay. Now that I speedrun other games than oddworld I need a new thread.
We can use this thread to discuss PB's, speedrunning events, whatever. And by we, itll probably just be me talking about dust and sam talking about mario. But if anyone else wants to chime in feel free! I just PB'd in Dust: An Elysian Tail by 1:31. It was only my 4th run of the game, and im very happy with it. (Final time = 1:18:45, prev being 1:20:16) Huge Pb, but im pushing for Sub 1:18 by the end of the week! |

On topic: I was watching a speedrunner attempt Super Mario 64 in 48 minutes yesterday. Each time he lost more than a few seconds due to a fuck up he completely started over. That must be frustrating as hell. Interesting to watch though. |
Yeah. If ur going for WR in a 20 year old game that hundreds of people have competed for over the years, to stay on top you gotta be perfect. I dont like watching resets personally because 99% of the time u only see 10% of the run. I do resetless runs unless something hugely bad happens like the game crashes or my internet cuts out or I do something that costs minutes; because that really demotivates you especially if ur in the end. Other than that, I complete all my runs because if u spend hours on the first couple of levels you may mess up some of the later tricks, since you may have played the tutorial a thousand times but chances are the final level would be played in 1/10 runs.

Binding of Isaac speedrunning has interested me the most. Not only do you have to know every enemy and item, but there is always that randomness to it all. So every speedrun is different.

Every Friday and saturday on twitch over the next couple of weeks will be the continuation of the Binding of Isaac Balls of Steel tournament, if ur interested. Kinda like a best of the best for Isaac runners. Ive been watching the auditions for the last month. Isaac's a game I want to get into running, but I cant: Because I fucking suck.
But I enjoy watching it played at its highest level. |
PB'd again in Dust. By about 3 minutes. Dont ask me how, I was flabbergasted. The run wasnt good, so i dont know how I got such a good time.

Havoc, watching runs live sucks most of the time. If you want a good SM64 run, look for one of the AGDQ 120 star runs. Siglemic is a fucking beast.

Watching live is good for seeing all the time and effort that is put in to get those perfect runs.

I'm not that into the whole speedrunning scene, but I usually check out the Games Done Quick events and back when Dark Souls 2 came out I watched a ton of runs of that. Mirror's Edge runs are also pretty cool.
