Vote for Abe in Super Smash Bros.
Almost forgot to mention this here...
Guys, if you wanted to raise awareness for Oddworld or simply see Abe fart on Mario now is your chance. You can vote for him to be featured in Super Smash Bros. All you have to do is fill in the following form: bit.ly/abeforsmash http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...t/RANT0084.jpg |
Replace "Brawl" with "Smash" |
Everyone vote for Munch
|
I voted for MA
|
I voted for Ed Miliband. Thought the elections were on 7th May?
|
I already did this a few days ago :P
|
Heh, Nintendo. :goof:
I don't play Super Smash Bros, but I did my part to help and voted for Abe. Good luck guys, hope it is successful! |
Hate to rain on anyone's parade but I really don't think Abe stands a chance against every other game franchise in existence.
And on top of him not being as popular as everyone else there's no real connection or reason why he should be in smash brothers, aside from it'd raise awareness to a fan base who don't really have anything to do with Oddworld. Abe's a weakling who's trying to save his own kind, him fighting people completely goes against his character. But who knows maybe someone can prove me wrong. |
:
But its a fun little 'what if' scenario. No harm in trying, itd be pretty funny. |
It's woefully unlikely. There was a petition way back when to have abe in sony's version of smash, it got entirely filled (something like 100k) and guess who wasn't in the game? Snake, from MGS, that shit pissed me off. Also, abe.
|
:
Also snake was in brawl, so they got raiden (who was OP). |

Its a genre. Mascot brawler/fighter. The same reason we dont call every fps doom clones anymore or every moba dota clones. |
"Mascot brawler" doesn't really have enough games to have a full genera.
|
:
I miss PSAS. R.I.P a thousand hours of my life. |
:
It was a Smash clone. It was Sony Smash bros. I'm not saying it wasn't a very good game, because it was honestly quite fun. However I'll still never get over the fact all of the classic original Sony mascots (Crash, Spyro, Abe, Lara Croft) which got Playstation where it was today weren't in it... *sigh* |
I think it's a bit soon to call it a mascot fighter genre since there's only been two game series doing it. The difference is that for FPS and Moba's there's millions of them it's really not fair to throw all of them under a blanket or something that I'm not smart enough to come up with.
While speaking about Playstation all stars, I didn't like the idea of him getting into smash brothers but he'd have a better chance there because Abe resonates with Sony fans. He's no significant impact with Nintendo outside the three obscure gameboy ports of the original trilogy. I guess what I'm trying to say is I want to know what puts Abe above all the other video game characters and why I should be hyped about the idea. |
:
Activision and Square enix. Also abe was never a mascot. Edit: how many games does it need to be a genre? Cuz digimon had one and so did cartoon network. |
Abe was a poster boy for the PSOne. He really just was. I don't remember it either (I was under 3 at the time), but looking back on PS media it's pretty obvious. He hasn't stayed a mascot, and he wasn't on the level of some of those others, but mascot is definitely a good word for what he was.

I just wished we lived in a world where those company were nice enough to let them use the characters. They needed to see that just because they owned the franchise, they were still part of PS history. I mean, Only good things could of possibly come from them using the characters. Fans are happy and companies are happy because the game is selling well because of the classic characters... But no... :
Not officially anyway. And not as huge as Crash or Spyro, but trust me. When people saw Abe, they thought Playstation. People remember Abe during the PS1 era. Speaking of which, Abe was actually planned for a DLC character, but it was cancelled. :
|
I also enjoyed the TMNT smash inspired game.
|
The fanboys are strong in this thread.
|
:
I wasn't trying to say that sony smash was a ripoff, but it's also clearly doing what it's doing to compete with Super Smash Bros. |
:
|
I recall Abe getting attention on the front cover of PSX mag.
A later eddition for AE had a shot from that scene with the muds walking in the desert on the back cover. :) |

|
Done. I hope this works.
|
Voted for Abe. Definitely would be cool to possess NPCs who could be used as weapons against your opponents.
|
:
Also the idea of someone mind controlling his enemies sounds cheap and annoying. |
i hate smash bros can't say i voted.
