Streaming thread

Thought id make a thread similar to the New n Tasty video thread but for streams. So, post ur channel below, and give a description about what u stream and when, if applicable.

Twitch.tv/Shade667

Currently, I stream my New n Tasty speedruns. You can hear me rage, live, at zulag 3 from the comfort of your own home! I also stream level practicing and sometimes IL attempts, but not that often. Cuz who wants to see me restart rupture farms 20 seconds into the level a hundred times?
Every now and then Ill stream speedruns of the Evolve tutorials as well. And in the future Ill be streaming some Mortal Kombat X.

I usually stream on weekdays around 1-4pm GMT +10. On weekends its usually the same, if I decide to at all. But on saturdays some times I like to stream for an hour or so , but its usually something small scale like IL runs, and tends to be around 6 to 8 pm.
For example, right now im about to go live playing Alfs escape to try and beat that challenge alex set for me.

So yeah, was gonna post this in the Spoiler forum for some reason. Glad I realised that not everyone speedruns New n Tasty.

Oh. I thought this was going to be a golden showers thread. I'll be leaving now.

OANST makes a fair point. You set up an incorrect expectation by not posting this in NOG.

But its not necessarily non oddworld. I was going to put it in Non oddworld, but I stream oddworld. So that wouldnt make sense.

It's gaming, though. And you put it in the non-gaming part of the forum.

Oh, I didnt know Offtopic was non gaming. I just thought, Its gaming, but its not restricted to or from oddworld content, so I cant put it in non oddworld. But I cant put it in oddworld discussion or the spoiler forum cuz its not restricted to oddworld.

So I thought offtopic was just a general place to put it.

Streaming actually sounds kinda fun. Live Lets Playing? Count me in. Wouldn't mind playing some Dark Souls in front of random people. People like rage.

It is fun. I was really nervous at first, but ive grown into it (Seeing the viewer icon going from 0 - 1 used to give me a heart attack, and then see it go down after I do something stupid... broke my heart lol). But Its just like talking to people on skype or something, except they dont talk back.

I dont have the personality or charm to draw people in, so I hope I do so with my skill. It does take a while to build an audience though. I have 7 followers (3 who arent friends) after weeks of streaming 2-3+ hours a day. But for me its just something extra. Im gonna be speedrunning anyway, so why not stream my runs and my practice.

I've tried streaming numerous times and never get any viewers. It's fun to do and the idea of it is very appealing but it's hard getting an audience. I'd say even harder than YouTube cause it's always live.

I also watch a lot of streams. Particularly Vinny from Vinesauce. I highly recommend that guy.

If anyone was wondering, this is my Twitch channel: http://www.twitch.tv/wariopunk25

You can't get a decent audience streaming unless you stream regularly, or are already e-famous. Youtube content is good because you can stockpile content and release it, but you have more competition from other channels that upload regularly too. If you have the time (and internet) to stream every night then Twitch is probably easier to get noticed on, and you don't have any kind of production overhead.

And the entire Vinesauce crew is amazing. Vinesauce Joel has some of the funniest video game videos on Youtube.

Ive started streming about a month ago, and I started regularly uploading to youtube around the same time. You can probably guess which one is progressing faster.

Id say I streamed for a week without any viewers when I started. Now I average 3-5 during my runs.

I'm not very interesting, I think, but I had quite a few viewers during my Alien: Isolation stream.

You can usually catch me whenever we stream on 4sgtv, and I'm making an appearance on FlairTV commentating a Quake duel tournament with some of the best players in the world on the 19th!

I wish I could livestream more, but I can't even run a stable 600kbps bitrate because Aussie internet is awful :c

MeechMunchie 04-08-2015 05:05 PM

The only thing I'd consider streaming is my massive backlog of bizarre indie freeware. I've got about a hundred .zips, and I've had them all too long to remember what any of them contain.

I have 2 mb download and 0.5 upload, and I stream in HD and people tell me its not laggy or anything.

Maybe streaming through my ps4 makes ps4 take some of the load then, idk.

Phylum 04-09-2015 12:08 AM

A ps4 cannot make up for shitty net. That's not how bandwidth works. Speedtest pls.

Also your Youtube VoDs are only 480p, so maybe the PS4 detects your shitty upload and compensates.

Anyway my upload speed is never stable so my stream constantly lags out and there's nothing I can do about it.

Shade667 04-09-2015 02:44 AM

I cant speedtest. I need a flash player, and pS4 lacks that.

My internet test always tells me I have between 5-24 download and 0.5 - 2 upload. But nothing ever downloads faster than 2mb p/s and nothing uploads faster than 0.4 mb p/s. (I just uploaded a video, so I can confirm)

I dont know if twitch vods are always lower quality or not. But the streams are in HD, at least thats what I set it to. PS4 doesnt tell me 'Hey dumbass u cant stream in HD', so if its lower than it does it without my knowledge.

I know Ps4 doesnt make ur net better, but since its on their servers I thought they might handle some of the middle work between the User and twitch.

And yeah, in the end, it doesnt matter how good ur net is if its not stable. No use streaming if it cuts out every 20 mins.
