I got my friend into oddworld
 

I've done this thing in the past on numerous occasions where I gift AO to a friend who'd not played it yet, until now the response was just "huh." This guy I got it for recently though has since then been doing voice impressions and quotes with me all day.

I don't know how to feel I didn't prepare for this outcome.

That's really awesome. Only one of my personal friends grew up with Oddworld so he's the only guy I talk about the series to, other then obviously you guys.

I've been trying to get my other friends into it for years, and I always talk about the series when we're just chatting about gaming. I've had mixed responses when I actually showed the games to them. A shame really.

I once got a hug from someone after mentioning Oddworld while casually discussing games we liked.

Other than that most of my social circle is either already familiar with the series or just doesn’t care about videogames.

A friend was looking at his Facebook wall in college and under a drawing he'd done someone had posted a picture of Abe.

I asked him about it, and he said he didn't know what it was.

One time when i was at the neighbors house 10 years ago one of the kids had a Abes Exoddus emotion T shirt from the Exoddus store catalog in the manual and i asked him where he got it. and he told me "oh i don't know, my mother got it for me at a garage sale". I wanted to rip it off of him and tell him he isn't worthy of wearing it.

I've tried, quite frequently, to let my other friends have a shot at the Oddworld games. Nobody but my mother and to a lesser extent my brother have shown any genuine interest in seeing it through to the end.

At once, I find it hard to believe that anyone could not love this game. But, at the same time, I played it as a youngster; the environment in which I was introduced to it was significantly different. Not just in terms of age but also partly in the mentality towards a new game. As opposed to today, where it is just one of many to my friends, to me it was one of very few. Perhaps it's easier to be taken in by its charms when you don't know what else there is in the world.

It makes me think that maybe Oddworld is something of an acquired taste or just a game that you can't really get other people into just like that. If you managed it, then you're better at pitching games than I am.

One guy at my old job had played it and really loved it when he was younger. Then he got NnT on the PS4 so I'm jealous.

Oh I forgot I got my uncle into Oddworld as well. He found farting on command the best thing ever. :D

So update, while we play MMOs with our guild, he asks them if they've had Scrab Cakes or Paramite Pies on voice chat.
