The Sun Eater - A novel
Whats going on everyone! Been coming to this website for a long while now (still pissed New n Tasty isn't on PC yet) so I thought i would share something that maybe at least a few of you might be into.
I've just recently finished a draft if my first novel The Sun Eater and I'm trying to get the resources to start getting it off the ground. Why post it here you say? Well its a dark, twisted tale with black humor just like ol' Oddworld here. Any sci-fi/horror fan will get a kick out of it. I could, if i wanted, write all the info down here but its pointless to do so as everything is explained in this link below. igg.me/at/the-sun-eater I thank anyone who may potentially decide to contribute or even takes the time to look at it. If you have friends who have love sci fi novels then why not share it with them too? EH? Stay odd everyone. - Sean |
We are the absolute wrong people to try to show this to. We are cunts. Every one of us, down to a man.

Hmmm. I'm not so sure about an indiegogo campaign to raise money for an indiegogo campaign. Especially one that costs $2,000. Perhaps you should make a nice, relatively cheap video and just go straight for the main campaign? Is there any way you could try and shop your manuscript to some local or statewide publishers? I'd probably throw a little money at the main campaign bu not so sure about this.
|
Wait. You're asking for money to write a book? Why would anyone give you money to write a book? Are you high on drugs?
Go write a book if you want to write a book. |
No, I believe he's written the book. He wants money to fund a promotion campaign (which is the odd part) and print some copies through Barnes and Nobles' printing system. And, if this campaign is successful, he's going to promote a proper campaign to print a few hundred copies of his book.

Send your draft to publishers? Like other people who write books?
|
That's what I suggested he could do. But self-publishing's become rather popular these days. And perhaps he feels it might help to self-publish locally and, if feedback is good, he can perhaps take that to a more statewide or national publisher? I dunno much about the book game.

You don't self publish until you've exhausted normal channels.
|
Also you posted your book online right?
No publisher will ever touch you unless you take it down and remove every trace of it from the internet. |
I think holy sock has pretty much got it down. I'm starting to rethink a lot of it and as I said it's just experimental, to see if I could get anyone drawn in or interested.
Yea I've already written the book and am constantly editing it and no I havnt posted the book online anywhere. As far as self publishing goes a lot of authors sell their books personally until it gets going and sky rockets. I pretty much plan to do a bit of everything. Sell books myself, set up an eboook and a few of my friends know some publishers so there's that. I'll probably do what holy sock said and let this one run it's course and make do with what I have and can but myself for the main campaign. |
Not to sound like a shill for my corporate overlords, but you should check out Amazon self-publishing. It get the books on Kindle devices and lets people print on demand if they want a physical copy.
You'd still need to go out and market the hell out of the book. But I really don't think filming an advertisement is the best way to do it. Think bigger than your little town. Make sure you've got a website and a Twitter account, and go shill yourself places where people discuss their own books. I'd start on Reddit. |
I used KDP and made about £15 over a year and a half.
It's great. |

Ah, the Sun Eater, my favorite part of Metal Gear Sunny Saga. Good luck with the project!
