Also according to Stewart an Android version should follow "very soon". :D

it's nice and all, but I have a really hard time controlling 3D games with a iPhone/iPad touch screens. So I really won't enjoy playing it.

It's an even harder sell when you consider the HD version is cheaper on PC right now

AvengingGibbons 11-27-2014 05:37 AM

I'm gonna buy it now just to see what it's like, and to support Oddworld of course!

Holy Sock 11-27-2014 09:01 AM

Wicked!! Won't be able to play it though since I have not upgraded to the age of smartphones and tablets.

I like the trailer but I think, perhaps, the Wild West filter does a bit of a disservice to the game's visuals. It may put off some potential consumers.

Manco 11-27-2014 09:42 AM

Bought it already. Would try it out but I'm not feeling so great at the minute.

Job McYossie 11-28-2014 04:16 AM

Hope you feel better.

I'll likely get it when it's out for android.

AvengingGibbons 11-28-2014 04:58 AM

Is there any plan to up the in-game resolution? Surely the latest iPhones (6 & 6plus) could handle the game at their native resolutions? And if not, surely the resolution coul be raised up more than what it currently is..?

Job McYossie 11-28-2014 05:12 AM

What is the current resolution?

What is the current resolution?

Don't know, but it's low enough that you get jaggies and blurriness.

It's native on iPhone 6, afaik. Have you got your sliders on max?

oh... there's sliders?

Thanks OWI_Alex. The game looks gorgeous on the full settings on my ipad mini3, but the performance is far too poor to play the game (like 5fps). Couldn't you tweak things to make the performance better? Look at games like Infinity Blade. It's possible. I understand it would probably mean rewriting a lot of code, in which case I can see it wouldn't be a smart thing to attempt.

Job McYossie 11-28-2014 02:48 PM

This is why there is a slider. If it's too slow for you, turn down the resolution. If your device cannot support the high resolution, that's not really in the hands of JAWS.

Stranger's Wrath for mobile is by Square One Games, not JAW.

Job McYossie 11-28-2014 03:05 PM

Regardless, it's not the devopers fault if the game is slow and you knowongly run it at a higher resolution.

Phylum 11-28-2014 04:28 PM

iUsers are used to software that targets the most recent hardware and runs without a hitch. I guess there's more variety now with iPads, but you can still optimise per-model, unlike Android where there are too many options to account for.

It sounds like they've maybe left some room for better visual quality in the future as the technology gets better?

Try reducing some of the sliders, if you've not already - Square One have added lots of flexibility on the mobile version to ensure that everyone can find a happy medium with the settings. The "resolution" slider is perhaps the best place to start (the iPad Mini 3 has a really high resolution), and switching off 'post' will help.

I've noticed some of the reviews on the App Store mention the frame rate on certain devices - but that's what the sliders are for really.

Connell 11-29-2014 03:43 AM

I've already got this game.

So from having a run through the tutorial area it seems that the game runs smoothly at the default settings on iPad and iPhone, but the iPad takes a performance hit when turning up settings too far (I put my resolution up some and reduced the post-FX and view distance to compensate). That’s probably down to the larger screen resolution, but it’s a shame since the lower resolution is far more noticeable on the bigger screen.

I wonder if the people mentioning framerate are running on older hardware, and if so is there any way to either adjust the game settings automatically or make the performance settings more obvious to make sure people get a better experience?

Besides that though, the game plays well enough and I like the control personalization (I feel the default button sizes are a bit small for iPad).

One thing I’m interested in: I got through the tutorial without any major issues, but in the last fight before entering Gizzard Gulch I took a fair few hits – considering how tough fights get late in the game, I’m curious to know if any difficulty adjustments have been made to account for the new control scheme? I’m not sure I could survive the tougher sections if not.

AvengingGibbons 11-29-2014 01:15 PM

It really is tricky to control using only the touch-screen. Hopefully there'll be a bigger push for games that require controllers, because if you use a controller, you're pretty much getting the same expierience as on a console. The graphics are that impressive! (At least on the latest devices...)

Maybe I'm a sap but bloody hell. It's nice to see some really enthusiastic Oddworld discussion in the TouchArcade Forums.
