An Update On New 'n' Tasty

Update on New 'N' Tasty for other Platforms

:

PC, Mac and Linux versions

We showcased the PC version of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty to the public in Manchester, UK, in October. To the surprise of many players, it was the full game, playable all the way through. But we’re not quite finished with ensuring the game is fully optimised for all hardware, and have at least a couple of months left before release.

Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty will launch on Steam (with other storefronts to be announced) as soon as possible. We don’t currently have a recommended spec but we can confirm there are graphics setting sliders in the game, along with controller support and rebindable keys.

We may be looking to run a closed, private beta of the Steam release of New ‘n’ Tasty in the near future. We’ll have news on this soon.

PlayStation 3 and PS Vita versions

Fitting the expansive worlds of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty into the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita has proved to be something of a challenge. The relatively limited RAM available to us has meant we’re having to break down some of the huge scrolling areas seen in the PC and PS4 versions whilst ensuring we retain the same great gameplay.

In addition, many of the visual effects, lighting and animation are not currently at the fidelity level we’d be happy with, so there’s still some work to do in this area.

We’re keen to have the PS3 version running smoothly at 720p and the PS Vita version at its native resolution, but this isn’t without some degree of difficulty. We know PS3 and PS Vita owners are desperate to get their hands on the game, but please rest assured we’re doing everything we can to make this happen to get it onto the PlayStation Store as soon as possible.

We’re aware that the wait is disappointing to our fans waiting to play on PS3 and Vita. However, as a small studio it’s impossible for us to dedicate the sort of team sizes that larger titles can afford, and so we’re having to work away at the PS3 and PS Vita versions delicately and methodically. We’ll have more news on the progress here in the coming weeks and months.

Xbox One version

The most recent version to be announced, it shouldn’t come as much surprise to learn that development on the Xbox One version is still in its early stages. We envisage a relatively short window before the game is ready for release, however, and expect the game to feature the same great visual and gameplay standards seen on the PlayStation 4 version.

Wii U version

Bringing New ‘n’ Tasty to the Nintendo Wii U is not without its own set of challenges. While it’s true we were initially concerned with the limited storage space on the 8GB ‘Basic’ Wii U model, we’re happy to say that recent fan feedback has assured us this is not as widespread an issue as we first thought.

Unfortunately, this is not the only technical issue we face on Wii U. Many of the optimizations currently being worked on for the PS3 and PS Vita versions will be used on the Wii U version, so we’re dependent on those being completed. There is also specific functionality in Unity that isn’t currently supported on Wii U. All in all, we have considerable work to do on this particular version.

We remain invested in the Wii U platform, and reiterate our desire to have Abe on a Nintendo console.
:

We hope this post goes some way to assure fans that we are still dedicated to getting Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty onto all of the previously announced platforms. We apologise for a lack of progress reports in this area in the past, but without specific updates to give we’d just be repeating ourselves. It’s still too soon to say when we can release, but we will announce release dates as soon as we’re confident we’ve reached the highest quality we can.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to confirm that Munch’s Oddysee HD for PlayStation Vita is in the final stages of QA at Sony, and remind Oddworld fans that the mobile platform release of Stranger’s Wrath is due very soon indeed.

That sounds like a lot of work - I hope JAW take as much time as they need, and I'm glad they're not giving up on porting it to other platforms. The tone of the update had me a little worried while I was reading the start of it. :P

Still, it's really nice that they gave us an update rather than leaving us in the dark. Good luck to them. :)

Yay other storefronts

Strnadik 10-23-2014 06:54 AM

Yay beta-testing.

Seriously though, I'd love to help OWI/JAW with seeking out annoying bugs and glitches, I beta-tested dozens of games. Looking forward to get some more information about that.

Glad to see that they're trying their hardest to get it working on other storefronts. I've been waiting for the PC version and I'm pretty glad to see that it might be available in the next few months.

Good luck to JAW!

I can't wait to finally see the splendor.

SIADmander 10-23-2014 12:37 PM

I really hope they don't rush it. A non-buggy version will be worth the wait.

Crashpunk 10-23-2014 01:01 PM

The one thing JAW won't do is to rush out the other versions. The blog post confirmed they are putting as much time and effort into them as possible.

Don't you dare ruin my Christmas 2014 prediction, JAW. I have money riding on that shit.

Crossing my fingers that the Xbox One version will realy be as easy to convert as they are expecting. :)
