Lorne Lanning Interview at a Podcast!
He's being interviewed at Fragments of Silicon Podcast to talk about:
New 'n' Tasty Alf Escape The Early Years of Oddworld! Have a look here: http://www.oddworld.com/2014/10/lorn...licon-podcast/ |
...so what?
|
He might hint when a PC release is coming.
|
Im more interested in the other things than a release date lol. I really like listening to developers. I ccant count how many interviews ive read of just lanning himself talking to games journalists. I hope someone'll upload it to youtube or somewhere I can listen to it without a PC or a phone.

That really was wishful thinking. :)
|
Can someone sum it up briefly? As in, did he say anything we didn't already know? For all we know it could be an interview from 10 years ago because they all go pretty much the same way.

Oh, whoops.

So pretty much every Lorne Interview then?

Stop pretending to be like us. You love it. You know you love it. Interview whore.

What.
|
You heard.
|
Fuck the jaded cunts. You enjoy that interview if you want, Crash.

By the way, wasn't the quintology announced by Lorne Lanning ? I always thought it was a random myth made possible with lorne's charisma (it could have been 3 games or whatever you want). What is ridiculous is that JAW is trying to stick to it ("we must accompish the five games"), whereas it is impossible to reach.
|
Its not impossible. Theyve got like 6 games planned, including hand of odd and strangers wrath 2.
And if they get consistent sales from New n Tasty and the exoddus remake then Itll most likely be a reality. |
Exactly, planned.
|
Have some faith - OWI's road has been rough in the past but with JAW's help, they seem to be doing quite well for the time being. Lessons have been learned, etc. Maybe Lorne will reach his goal. Who knows?
|
I don't understand your complaint, Vlam. Do you think they will never be able to make more than 3 games after the Exoddus remake? Do you think they won't have the budget to make the Quintology games properly and will have to settle for smaller titles? Are you just against planning in general and wish JAW wouldn't succumb to such a horrid practice?
|
Nyeeergh nobody could ever make 5 full games, nyeeergh
|
Vlam has never heard of Fifa.
|
Best quality. Can understand every word.

Actually maybe you genuinely don't, in which case I'm just being a dick. Quint- means the same thing as Pent-, i.e. The Quintology would have been five core games. AO and MO were two of those. |
Why is it a gimmick? It's just a road map for the direction of the main series. Because the series isn't just a bunch of disparate plotlines - it's a story with a beginning, middle, and an end. But instead of the usual trilogy it's a 5 game series. The only difference is that Lorne, and possibly others, mapped out a story that they felt necessitated 5 parts rather than 3 or more than 5. I mean, do you complain when other companies say they plan to make a trilogy? The quintology is just there to separate the main storyline of Oddworld from the other games set in this universe.
Also, what's wrong with goals? Surely the Quintology is an appropriate goal for JAW to eventually realise. It's not like they plan to get it done by 2018 or something. They seem to be very aware of the realities since they decided to make the AO remake instead of diving straight into Squeek's Oddysee. Lorne's even discussed that they wouldn't tackle the next game until they could afford to do so. JAW haven't even confirmed that the Exoddus remake is happening because they don't want to jump the gun. It seems like you're imagining a problem that doesn't exist. Over-ambition may have been a crux in OWI's past, particularly with MO, but I can't see why the goal to eventually realise the quintology is such a silly one. |

I've almost finished the interview and it contains quite a lot of interesting and new stuff.
- Meeches were the first creatures that made it into the game but the fact they moved in herds made it difficult to keep the game running smoothly. - They did the whole design of AO backwards, designing the creatures first and applying gameplay mechanism on them instead of the other way around. - The difficulty in AO and AE is actually due to how the game's animation is done. - A nice anecdote on how Sherry saved MO and managed to have it done for release date. - A lot of personal stuff on Lorne's background. All in all it's a very nice view back on the history of OWI and it explains a lot of the choices they did in the past. Just don't listen to the hosts' useless chatter before the 11:20 mark, it made me want to rip my ears off. |

"saved" being a loose term.
