New n Tasty Easter Eggs?

Hello everyone! I've been itching to play this game on PC, and have been watching gameplays and playing Oddysee constantly to cope! I've heard rumors knocking around that there are a handful of hidden easter eggs in this game. Apparently there's a special Slig (the Newscaster? Crig? Wildum?) somewhere in New n Tasty according to an interview with Stewart Gilray.

"There’s no Big Bros, there’s no flying ones, there is a special Slig somewhere, and again I don’t know where he is – I can’t even tell you because I don’t know where he is. "

Feel free to post any of your Odd findings! Pictures and videos very welcome!

The hunt is on!

GlukkonGluk 07-27-2014 04:03 AM

In the opening cutscene, when the Glukkons are viewing the screen displaying the failing profits, there's a picture of a Glukkon on the screen with "Lulu" underneath him-- it was only brief so I couldn't tell what the point was but I assume it was a reference to the Lulu we meet in MO :) Also on one of the slidey tutorial screens there was an alert to all employees that there's an infestation of BoomBats (I think!) that we see in SW. There's two to start you off.....! Oh, and sometimes an annoyed Mudokon will call Abe Stitch Lips.

Dynamithix 07-27-2014 05:58 AM

I haven't played the game yet, but I watched a few videos and I saw a sign in Paramonia that said "Splinterz - Coming soon" so that's obviously a reference to MO.

There's Soulstorm brew bottles lying around near sligs at a few instances.

MeechMunchie 07-27-2014 10:15 AM

There are Mudokon sleeping pods in the background of one area, if that counts.

I saw that!! They even have the smiley-face monitors like in the concept art. I had to go grab the art book to compare!

One of the electronic notice boards mentions Wildum receiving an "early retirement"—Wildum of course being the benevolent slig who befriended Abe and Alf, according to and early Dear Alf. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe this is the "secret slig" Stewart mentioned during said interview.

Another notice also mentions a boombat infestation in the RuptureFarms boiler room.

I have a feeling that's the section where the train or transportation egg is all blown up and derailed in that secret area.

That was a pretty neat scene :)

I had a small fit when I saw the "Zulag 5" sign. Fan-gasm-worthy goodness. Props to whoever came up with that idea.

Agreed, that Zulag 5 scene was pretty neat.

I missed the Wildum reference, any idea where it was?

Oh man, I haven't seen that scene! Will some kind soul post a video of what you're referring to? Zulag 5??? I'm hard.

Great catch! :D if you get a chance, could you post a picture of that notice board? I'd love to see it! :)

I never understood the wildum reference, but with the Zulag 5, I thought in the background was the big ball that originally made the lasers at the beginning of the stockyards. But when I saw the Zulag 5 signs I then realised that it was a ballcar.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one! That one scene made RuptureFarms feel so much … bigger. And in an even greater state of disrepair. Certainly gave me the chills.

I have seen a reference to Nolybab in the intro cinematic.

"Failure to demonstrate 'cake' status to Nolybab courts"

Not really an easter egg, but a nice reference. :)

I really like all the in-universe references in NNT.

JennyGenesis 08-17-2014 02:13 PM

I don't get it, what does cake have to do with tax?

JayDee 08-17-2014 02:28 PM

Scrab Cakes aren't exactly what you'd classify as a 'Cake', they seem to be more similar to some kind of meat patty with sauce. I'd have to assume that on Oddworld actuall cakes are taxed differently to savoury foods/snacks, and due to Scrab Cakes notbeing an actual doughy cake they would be brought to a Nolybab court and forced to be taxed accordingly.

If anyone from the UK can remember the "Pasty Tax" I can only assume it'd be a similar deal.

MeechMunchie 08-17-2014 02:43 PM

It's most likely a reference to Jaffa Cakes, considered by many to be biscuits. Chocolate biscuits are legally a luxury item in the UK, and have to pay a higher proportion of tax on sale. The company responsible therefore went to court to to prove that Jaffa Cakes are, in fact, small cakes.

It's all very interesting.

Jaffa Cakes are and always have been cakes. It says it in the name! Jaffa Cakes!

Oh, I see it now.

JennyGenesis 08-17-2014 03:22 PM

Ahh yes, I think Pringles went through the same thing didn't they?

Having to prove that they are not crisps (potato chips to the yanks)

I'd also like to point out one of the locales RuptureFarms services, according to that panel, is "Mongo". Very likely the Mongo Valley, as the little anecdote appears to say "Interest Following … Privatisation and Game Hunting", obviously a reference to Sekto establishing Sekto Springs, as well as the eradication of the Steefs. Very cool. I guess since Sekto moved in, the need for distribution of outlying franchise foods has diminished.

The second locale appears to be Necrum. The anecdote stating "…sets no one … lives here". Obviously, it's a desert.

I had a lot of fun coming up with references, puns and in-jokes for that presentation.

Bullet Magnet 08-26-2014 02:59 PM

What is "kuntic"?

Connell 08-26-2014 04:04 PM

Something deriving from the vagina, e.g; "Babies are of kuntic origin."

MeechMunchie 08-26-2014 05:04 PM

Wikipedia says that Kunti was a figure of Hindu mythology whose most significant act was not setting herself on fire.

Maybe Kuntic is a fancy word for fire-resistant?

It shows. You had plenty of practice when we were working on the Dream ;)

Wil 08-27-2014 07:53 AM

You know, I dug out everything we did on the Dream when I was brainstorming LED messages. I can't remember if any made it in. Did you recognize any?

SIADmander 08-31-2014 07:58 PM

What is "The Dream"?

Wil 09-01-2014 12:57 AM

A Dream is a world/channel/area in Furcadia. One of our members, Ajiellyn, created an Oddworld-themed Dream. It was great.

MeechMunchie 09-01-2014 09:08 AM

You know, back when that was online, I was too young too assign any negative connotations to a name like "Furcadia".

I miss those days sometimes.
