Reviews for New 'n' Tasty

PS Nation - 9.0/10

Eurogamer - 9/10

Xavier 07-21-2014 08:49 AM

Oh my god, the screenshots in the PS Nation review are amazing!

I'm glad to see such great reviews! I never doubted the game would be awesome but it's great to see the pro's think that as well :D

Xavier 07-21-2014 10:32 AM

Destructoid - 8/10

Holy Sock 07-21-2014 10:38 AM

Looks like someone prefers a more forgiving jumping system.

MeechMunchie 07-21-2014 10:46 AM

I'm so glad that a magazine owned by Sony liked your PS4 game.

Seriously, if they hadn't I'd be worried.

Holy Sock 07-21-2014 10:49 AM

Which one? As far as I know all three are independent websites.

Holy Sock 07-21-2014 11:18 AM

IGN - 8.5/10

All these reviews seem pretty darn positive so far.

MeechMunchie 07-21-2014 11:27 AM

PSNation. OK, "in the pocket of" is probably more accurate.

8 from Destructoid is good, though, as is an 8.5 from IGN without any money changing hands.

Holy Sock 07-21-2014 11:33 AM

Nah. From everything I've read and listened to from those guy it just seems like they're PlayStation fans who review games.

And they're a very small outfit. I don't see why Sony would be paying them off. Seems like you've been eating that cynicism burrito a bit too much, Meech.

Xavier 07-21-2014 12:46 PM

Plus it's not like they are giving it a 9/10 and everyone else is giving them 7/10.

Seeing the reviews this game is genuinely good.

STM 07-21-2014 06:46 PM

Destructoid has the most interesting review, imo. It's nice to hear the real good and bad of the game, rather than someone mindlessly praising it because it's part of the Oddworld franchise. Any way I can't wait until I can get my hands on it, I hope it's controller supported on Steam!

e: Also I love what they've done with the secrets behind the barrels. It doesn't make sense to just slip through the floor with a moving camera now.

e2: the new boom machines are gorgeous too.

e3: granddad farts confirmed HYPE.

DarkHoodness 07-21-2014 06:55 PM

It's nice to see websites giving a high score around the same or better than what was given to the original - IGN gave AO a 7.5. Of course it's relative, things have changed since then and each site's scoring is different, but it's a good sign. :)

Grats to JAW and OWI. Hope it sells well.

Console Monster - 95/100

Seems like the precise jump timing is the relic from the past that is the most contentious. Amateurs I say! :P

War-Lord 07-22-2014 02:16 AM

Not saying the 8.0 is bad because it's not though destructoid are notoriously bad reviewers.

I'd have to test it in order to know for sure if it's that annoying but for now I like the idea of needing to do precise jumps. So yeah...

Amateurs!

El Dango AGAIN 07-22-2014 04:21 AM

I think the Console Monster site allows you to scroll down forever.

The gadget Show - 5/5

Holy Sock 07-23-2014 10:39 AM

Escapist Magazine - 5/5

Bullet Magnet 07-23-2014 11:05 AM

That Splinterz teaser is a nice touch, and doubly ominous fo being in Paramonia.

STM 07-23-2014 11:52 AM

Do you actually destroy Spinterz in MO or just get rid of the CEO of the factory? I figure if the factory isn't destroyed then no doubt Paramonia is gonna be in a whole load of trouble.

Xavier 07-23-2014 12:19 PM

I think it's more some kind of franchise based businesses anyway. Shutting one down isn't going to close all the others.

So yeah Paramonia is pretty much doomed unless the Mudokons do something about it.

Bullet Magnet 07-23-2014 11:30 PM

This is actually weird to see this game being reviewed. It's like seeing photos of friends or family members turn up in print.

I know exactly what you mean. It's like going back 10 years to when the general public knew Oddworld and was talking about it.

I am beyond thrilled to see such a comeback for them :D

DarkHoodness 07-24-2014 11:41 AM

I hope this won't turn into something like Beyond Good and Evil or Okami where it gets decent reviews but hardly anyone ends up playing the thing. There's a bit of interest, but it's not exactly overwhelming. Hopefully that'll increase in time and with release on the other platforms (people are still talking about Fez for some reason), but a few comments on reviews show indifference, call it a "kids game", or show confusion over the whole "It's yet another HD remake!" "No it's not, it's a ground-up reincarnation!" thing.

Havoc 07-24-2014 12:42 PM

I think New 'n' Tasty could be a really good example of the power of social media and a strong fanbase. In this day and age it's so easy to just go on YouTube and watch some gameplay on just about any game you want and base your decision on that. Just reviews don't determine a game's fate anymore.

glukkonlulu 07-24-2014 12:46 PM

Yeah I normally do that, I do not trust ratings anymore

MeechMunchie 07-28-2014 06:31 PM

I guess this counts?

Holy Sock 07-29-2014 02:26 AM

We need more popular Youtube channels doing this sort of thing. Whatever your opinion on PewDiePie is it would be great for the game if he did a video on New 'n' Tasty.

Crashpunk 07-29-2014 03:17 AM

It would. But it's not the sorta game he would do.

I awaiting for "WTF Is... Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty" from TB once the PC version comes out. That would be very good for the game.

STM 07-29-2014 04:20 AM

I'm wondering if Yahtzee Croshaw might review it on the Escapist Youtube channel, that'd certainly be a laugh.
