Oddworld movie flowchart question.

hey guys. do you remember this flowchart for an oddworld abe's oddysee film that was featured in a book called Inside Game Design?

http://www.oddworldforums.net/attach...9&d=1217766437

well anyway i was wondering does anyone here knows what events in the flowchart happen in chronological order? because i want to make a synopsis.

I'm extremely drunk right now but I don't even think if I was sober I'd be able to make sense of that.

Im in the same boat as him. What is this jibberish. I can make out Mollock speech and, i think, Abes "princess"?

i think it's process.

Right, the flowchart is organised as follows. The horizontal lines are the major story breaks - the vertical lines are for each character. 1st (Parix?), 2nd (molluck), 3rd (Stumpy), 4th (Abe).

So essentially each block of the flowchart is telling us the story beats for the four characters.

The movie seems to be more explicitly centered around Abe's relationship with the beasts of Oddworld. And there seems to be some significance with the birth of a baby Bull in RuptureFarms. Molluck ordering it to be turned it into a "veal" equivalent. Abe becomes determined and tries to save it, with the help of Stumpy, but accidentally frees all the cattle as well and forces him to flee RF.

Abe seems to become some sort of shepherd and "Faith in Beasts = Faith in Self".

So it seems that releasing all the cattle creates a huge dilemma for Molluck. Molluck comes up with a "mysterious solution". Stumpy finds it out. Presumably it's to turn all the Mudokons into food - which I guess gives Abe a greater responsibility to save his friends.

This Parix or Parx character seems to be some sort of journalist bugging Molluck. Think he's investigating the Bull story. Finds out from his boss that RF is going to close down so the story becomes irrelevant. Witnesses the release of cattle. Molluck tries to have him "disappeared". The last story break we can see is "Shepherd Abe 'finds' Parix". So maybe he survives - or survives long enough to tell Abe whatever.

"Abe googoo eyes"

I'm not even ashamed to admit how much that's making me giggle.

Xavier 07-20-2014 04:29 AM

I checked in the book to see if there was some part of the image missing but it's not the case.

Holy Sock, I agree with your analysis, seems about right.

I really wonder what that bull business is all about.

Holy Sock 07-20-2014 04:54 AM

Probably the film's Shrykull equivalent or something.

Phylum 07-20-2014 05:09 AM

Wasn't Elum originally going to play a bigger role in AO, back when Abe was a farmer? I'd guess that the bulls are related in some way, given Abe's relationship with them.

MeechMunchie 07-20-2014 07:42 AM

Bullz

bigfootRULES 07-20-2014 09:43 AM

it makes wonder who the voice cast of the film would be. lorne lanning as abe obviously,
but who should voice molluck? james earl jones or tim curry?

MeechMunchie 07-20-2014 10:50 AM

John Goodman.

i think Parix or Parx might be a female because i saw something that says "taunts her" on the flowchart.

okay guess i was wrong about that.

i just was wondering how that video fits molluck's character.

Holy Sock 07-20-2014 04:30 PM

It would also be someone "in house" probably. Maybe Lorne again.

why's that? they could just get voice actors like Jim Cummings or Kevin Micheal Richardson.

Holy Sock 07-21-2014 02:48 AM

Because Lorne seems to like the idea of the "garage band" when it comes to voicing the characters.

Xavier 07-21-2014 08:56 AM

What would be the point in having big names voicing Oddworld characters? Either I recognize the voice and it ruins the immersion. Either I don't and then what's the point of having a famous (and expensive) name?

Plus, once you tie a voice to a character you are pretty much stuck with it. If the performer gets even more famous he's going to be even more expensive.

Seriously I don't see the point.

bigfootRULES 07-21-2014 11:46 AM

well if jim cummings voiced molluck i would have him sound like this.

MeechMunchie 07-21-2014 01:35 PM

Veteran member who hasn't been seen in a while.

*later* @Holy Sock - You got that synopsis only from the flowchart?

It's a shame the game's storyline is a lot more basic. I wonder if it'll feature a version of that storyline if it's made in a movie incarnation someday in the future.

Xavier 07-22-2014 03:19 AM

I get it that the movie needs to be more fleshed out than the game, but deep inside me I have the nagging sensation that I don't like the idea of having the movie sotry "contradict" the story we were told 17 years ago and retold today.

Yes.

But like Lorne said the story needed to accommodate the gameplay so it had to be streamlined.

Auriel 07-26-2014 04:51 AM

The entire flowchart is Abe's scattered thoughts as he was laying and waiting for the shrink to show up in that old Abe's Oddysee ad.
did I figure it out?

Silver angel 07-29-2014 12:10 PM

Does anyone have the full version? Please, I searched for it for about a year

Holy Sock 07-29-2014 12:11 PM

There isn't a full version. This is all of what was published.

Silver angel 07-29-2014 12:20 PM

Ok, have to use my imagination then.
