Just brought the OddBox

I have just brought the OddBox on steam. I have never played Strangers Wrath or munch before as they look utter rubbish (morso much) but I am now giving them a go anyway.
I just hope I don't run into technical problems:D

SW is completely worth it and not rubbish I assure you.

It's that game where you'd think it wasn't worth it at first glance but then you play it and realize it was totally worth it, if not for being given the chance to beat the shit out of talking chickens for their money

Munch's Oddysee is the opposite.

Havoc 06-28-2014 11:36 AM

Where did you bring it to?

Ledeux 06-28-2014 02:42 PM

hah^

Ledeux 06-28-2014 02:42 PM

munch's oddysee is shit though, i'd skip over it if i were you.

Job McYossie 06-28-2014 07:44 PM

Though the game is pretty bad it's not unplayable (at least back on xbox it wasn't). I'd definitly start with SW just so you know they made a good game on xbox, but I wouldn't completely skip MO. don't have to beat it, but give it a short play.

Phylum 06-28-2014 08:09 PM

MO probably won't run on your computer. There's a HD patch that the PS3 got coming soon, but JAW obviously have their priorities on NnT at the moment.

A true oddworld fan would play through the pain. On xbox. With the original chunk ass controller lmao.

The cgi is great as always in munch. But it's the game that could have been. I would play it if you wanted to see that little bit more of oddworld/ support the devs some more by atleast giving it a chance.

Stranger is great. It's different and when it starts to feel like it's getting repetitive, it'll change in a really fun way :) just keep up going! Trust me :)

I just tried to play MO again, since I don't remember it very well anymore. It crashed on the first stage too many times I gave up.

Phylum 06-29-2014 04:10 AM

There are compatibility mode things you can try, but nothing ever worked for me. We just have to abuse Wil until he personally fixes it.

If you haven't tried it though, play around with compatibility settings and make sure you run it as admin.

Job McYossie 06-29-2014 04:38 AM

Thanks, I'll try.
because I DO actually WANT to play it.

This is hilarious. The folder for the audio.

Oh ive played it multiple times and trust me man ive tried to like it every time. I had actually bought the game before i had bought an xbox and carried it around with me all the time when i was 10 or 11. I was so stoked for it, the day i bought an xbox i almost died of anticipation. Now the first play through i don't think i hated it, or maybe i wasnt sure i hated it i dk. But as the years went by i just started to realize how boring looking and overly goofy the game was. I HATED the glockstar, it took away how menacing and brutal the glukkons are. and the dumb valet slig. Who thought of that? Anyway i think its more i dont want anyone to play it and not like oddworld because of it. AO and AE are fantastic, and SW was fun to play to although i wish the had connected them.

I like MO apart from the constant back and forth going and strange gameflow when trying save everything. As Lorne said it himself it was a big learning experience and they made some mistakes and had to make compromises and stray from the original game design.

As far as getting the game to work.
A quote from something that I posted on the steam forum ages ago:
:

Go to the munch install folder. Go to the bin folder find the launcher.exe and munch.exe. Enable the "Run this as an administrator" on both. And also turn on the "Run this program in compatibility mode".

Then run the game. Start new game and let it load (Will spass out and take a while but eventually it should load the level)
Move a little and save the game. Shut down. And turn of compatibility mode on both. Restart the game and load your previous save. It sounds weird but this worked for a number of people. In my case I just struggled through the raisin cave, let it load, saved and did what I just described. After that the game worked like a charm.
Talking about weird potential fixes:)
Has worked for me a couple of times so far. Does take some trial and error but as soon as I get behind the raisins cave, save, quit and so forth I have 0 problems... .

So it stopped crashing for me. All I have to do is not run it through the launcher, which makes you play at a lower res (with no AA (Or a little, can't tell as easily at lower res)). however I keep running into this issue where abe get's stuck in the terrain, continuously steps in place (with sound effects, makes for very annoying experience) and either eventually gets unstuck, or the screen goes blue and it makes a falling scream sound.

The little bit that it is working has been enjoyable though. It's not as bad as I remember. Actually, apart from the crashing and such, it's kinda fun in a non-ironic way.

Phylum 06-29-2014 04:39 PM

After years of MO hate here, it was eventually decided fairly recently that MO isn't a bad game unless you judge it by Oddworld standards.

It's not a great game, and maybe not even a good game, but it's playable and enjoyable.
