E3 2014

Post exciting stuff here!

Dynamithix 06-10-2014 03:38 AM

I liked Microsoft's show, they had a ton of games. Evolve, Witcher 3, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, Crackdown for Xbox One and Ori caught my eye. I hated the Project Spark Conker cameo though, I was so excited when I saw that loveable squirrel but then they just go and say he's a playable character in the game... Man, I was so hoping for a new Conker game.

EA's conference sucked big sweaty balls, I was so hyped to see new Mirror's Edge footage and they showed, what, a millisecond of prototype pre-alpha bullshit and talked about the future of the game. Fuck that, if you're going to have an in-engine trailer of the game when you reveal it then you better actually have something similar or better the next time you show it. Criterion's upcoming game seemed like a cool idea though.

Ubisoft was pretty crappy too, fitness games and Assassin's Creed... meh. Valiant Hearts looked nice. That new Rainbow 6 game didn't look bad either, but the fact that their "one last game" was that instead of Beyond Good & Evil 2, yet again, breaks my heart.

Sony's conference was alright, they had some cool stuff like announcing a Grim Fandango remake for PS4 and Vita I mean goddamn, that got me really excited. Bloodborne interested me a lot, but it was just a CG trailer even though there's screenshots and small gameplay clips of it floating around on the internet, why couldn't they just actually show gameplay instead, ugh. Mortal Kombat X looked fun and they showed some new characters too, pretty cool. Far Cry 4 footage was surprisingly dull... their 'big thing', Uncharted 4, was also pretty shitty in my opinion, I couldn't care less about that series, I was hoping for a re-reveal of The Last Guardian for PS4. Oh well...

I liked the way the new Assassin's Creed allows you to see gameplay opportunities.

E3 2013 was a bit of a mess, but sony pulled through and seeing NnT was awesome.

This E3 had no major stuff ups (so far) and things have been flowing pretty well :)

Evolve, No mans sky, Magika 2, The Division...Some wicked titles coming this year/next. Cant wait. Overall i'm pretty satisfied with the whole even this year.

And yeah, what Dynamithix said is pretty much my same view on the whole event. Like, word for word lol. Eerie.

As for Conker...
I've never had so much excitement fill me and then leave so quick...

But hey, it got me thinking, what if the original devs (who have been keeping in touch doing stream plays of their N64 Conker together) are fiddling with project spark and are making something with their tools for Conker?

If thats the way it goes im happy if a new game is made. We need more bad fur days lol.

Edit: Oh and as childish as this sounds, LBP 3 looks wicked fun with the new characters. They seem to have had a lot of fun with it :)

Nintendo killed it at E3 this year, they fucking killed it. I am so board with the Wii U hype (that's a thing, right?), as if I wasn't already.

Woo. Loads of awesome, cheap indie games. oh and new Zelda is my (very) early bet on GOTY 2015, I really hope it delivers.

This year's E3 was a huge improvement over last years. Nothing (aside from a few little things like Mics not turned on or that random HULK SMASH! sound.) went wrong, and nothing was announced that had a massive negative response.

All shows had games that I want to play. The new Tomb Raider, Battlefront, Mirror's Edge as well as Sunset overdrive, Dead Island 2 (Because I hope it improves over the original.), and Uncharted. The Ratchet and Clank Movie has me excited and the announcement of the remake of the 1st game was a nice surprise. And even though I don't own an Xbone, I actually really want to play the Halo Collection.

In my opinion. Nintendo absolutely 'smashed' E3. sorry Smash Bros is looking INCREDIBLE, The game is looking solid and Even the 3DS version is looks great. Nice to see the Mii fighters with customizatible move sets, I think that's going to be very popular with the competitive smash players.

And Reggie fighting Iwata was fucking gold. Nintendo knows how to win the internet.

Super hyped for the new Pokemon remakes and Hyrule Warriors is looking amazing too. (Midna and Wolf Link as playable characters sold the game to me.) Amiibos look interesting and Splatoon was unexpected.

I'm actually really glad we didn't get another big 3D/2D Mario game. Even though we got Mario Maker, which actually looks really awesome. I feel like we've had enough of those and its time for Nintendo to focus on it's other IPs. (And with the announcement of a new Star Fox, It looks like they are!)

Finally, Zelda Wii U is already making me buzzing. I need to see more of that game.

Wow. Was not expecting this out of E3. Warning: May have a 'Jurassic Bark' effect on you.

EDIT: Here's a preview article.

I was kinda disappointed at how bland most of the E3 scene was. Sequels, shooters and flashy graphics is how I'd define the exposé. I was looking forward to hearing about Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Fallout IV but so far nothing heard about either of those. Battlefront III looks interesting from the tiny little snippets they've given away and I reckon Mirror's Edge might be good, there's room to expand in that universe.

There are other games which come from a good pedigree: Far Cry, Super Smash Bros., which will probably be good just like the others, yet the format will remain untouched. Then you just have things like Assassins Creed; I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between AC III or AC XXVIII or whatever they're up to now. The new Tom Clancy game might be aight from what I've seen, if that sort of game is your thing.

I honestly don't see the appeal of Destiny, the new LotR games looks nothing like a LotR universe and MGS looks dull. I really don't see the appeal of E3 any more and 90% of the games showcased, nothing stands out. Everything seems tired.

Phylum 06-11-2014 08:42 PM

Yeah, I kind of feel the same. Once upon a time new game releases were the most exciting shit ever. I remember getting so hyped playing PS2 demo disks back in the day. That God of War demo was awesome :')

It feels like everything is so flashy and intense these days. Maybe I'm growing up, but I just don't want to commit hours into that. The huge, gritty, realistic open-world stuff is great, but not when every man and hist dog is doing it. Valiant Hearts looked super interesting in the middle of all that.

I'm sure they're all good games to some degree, but I guess it's just not for me. I'm going back to Quake Live *grumble grumble*

Mr. Bungle 06-11-2014 09:29 PM

All the Nintendo e-shop games look pretty amazing, I think. So many neat little puzzle/platforming games there. That on top of the sea of full retail exclusives on their (or already released) way have me sold on the Wii U.

STM 06-11-2014 09:29 PM

Yeah honestly I kinda feel like I'm growing out of gaming. I'll stay play the games I've got but beyond RTS, grand strategy and the occasional platformer, I don't find much particularly interesting.

Wings of Fire 06-11-2014 10:09 PM

Wow. Nobody has mentioned Splatoon yet. That easily looks like the most fun game of the last ever.

STM 06-12-2014 12:05 AM

Oh yeh that reminds me I will say cuphead looks fekkin awesome.

Did I tell you that we're going to play that co-op next time I'm in Europe?
