Who Gives a Shit About the Oddworld Quintology?

In all seriousness, do any of you actually want to see this story continued? Not that it's a bad story, but if they just made a shit tonne of games like AO I don't think anybody would complain.

Slog Bait 06-06-2014 09:46 AM

I strongly desire more side stories like SW.

The quintology stopped being interesting after the second official installment, and that is VERY SAD. The next installment of the quintology would need to be absolutely mind blowing for its story to be of any interest to me personally.

MeechMunchie 06-06-2014 10:04 AM

I give a shit.

Some games would inevitably be better than others, but what I've heard of the overarcing narrative seems interesting enough to be worth pursuing.

Spoiler: Abe dies at the end.

No, seriously.

Source for Abe dying etc?

Varrok 06-06-2014 10:20 AM

Biology.

JayDee 06-06-2014 10:38 AM

They don't call him the Mudokon Messiah for nothing.

I would very much like to see the quintology continued. So much so that, If I were to ever win the lottery I would personally insert £100 notes into Lorne's rectum every day, until he was forced to get out of his chair and make a new game.

Varrok 06-06-2014 10:43 AM

How is it possible to insert money into anybody's ass while he's SITTING?

MeechMunchie 06-06-2014 10:47 AM

Commode.

This.

Edit: But instead, this.

Holy Sock 06-06-2014 10:50 AM

Yes indeed. I'm also interested in other games but I really wanna see where the Quintology is taken.

Varrok 06-06-2014 10:51 AM

Today I learned that Lorne always sits on a toilet armchair, and J_dude has a portal gun.

JayDee 06-06-2014 11:01 AM

I don't even have a portal gun, it's just that Lorne's sitting area is conveniently placed above the downstairs gents, so he cut a hole in his chair.

Crashpunk 06-06-2014 11:01 AM

I do. A lot.

Oddworld is one of the most interesting game worlds ever. And with only four games, It interests you even more as it makes your imagination kick in.

What's next for Abe and Munch?, What do the billion other species on Oddworld look like? and what other amazing environments are on the planet? I've been dying to see more of the world for too long. And the fact it's becoming a reality thanks to Just Add Water, I couldn't be happier with gaming right now.

That's not a chair. That's a sofa.

What's next for Abe and Munch?

This is what I don't care about, and even having additional information of what's planned for the quintology doesn't pull me in enough to care about what will be. Also, they're kind of boring characters when it gets down to it. Abe was most interesting in AO when you didn't actually see how he interacted with other characters.

These are all things that can provided through side stories like SW. The world is just so vast and there's so many possibilities, it's hard to want to stick with the same handful of characters in one small section of the world.

My post was regarding MM's mention of Close Stool. Then you came up with a sofa!

I have a burning passion to see the quintology finished. I was actually about to make a most kinda like this before I had seen this.

Ever since I was young, I knew there was supposed to be a quintology. When I couldn't play oddworld on my little shit PC that sat on the floor and I had to lie down to play, I read the manual. I've read that thing so many times. I remember reading that there was a quintology and wanted nothing more than to see it go on.

Abe's Exoddus was great, Stranger's Wrath was surprisingly good, but I want to see less of the spin offs. I'll be happy if OWI/JAW continues to release one quintology game, then one spin off, because the quintology won't be left behind then. But I will feel very bad if it is just dropped.

Munches Oddyesee mighta sucked major balls gameplay wise, but the story and feel from AO was still there for me. The world looked boring to me in game, but in cutscene I felt the same glory.

Not gonna lie, I dont really care for anything beyond exoddus, aside from new n tasty which im stoked for. Munch never really got to me and i was extremely disappointed that stranger didnt end with him still being a bounty hunter and somone handing him a wanted poster with abes face on it. THAT woulda been cool. I'd rather have new 2.5 d games comin out with new awesome environments. Munchs oddysee was dull and boring looking. And it was way to goofy

Holy Sock 06-06-2014 12:06 PM

They should really do both, I think. After the Exoddus remake and Fangus (if it gets off the ground) I'd like to see Squeek's Oddysee. Or maybe a game introducing the elements cut from Munch.

JennyGenesis 06-06-2014 12:07 PM

I'd like to see the quintology finished, but I know that I will be waiting a long time for that, 20 years and we are only 2 parts in!?

Nepsotic 06-06-2014 12:28 PM

The story isn't terrifically original and the characters don't have much depth. We were stoked for the quintology because it meant more Abe games, but no, we got... Munch... Not to mention what we've heard about the rest of the story doesn't sound very interesting, either.

Holy Sock 06-06-2014 12:40 PM

Were we now? I don't remember that...

Jordan 06-06-2014 01:12 PM

I'm stoked for seeing new environments. It's one of those worlds I just want to sink my teeth into. After seeing how nicely JAW are handling the environments in New n Tasty I very much look forward to seeing new content.

What makes you think that they'd stay in one area? Considering Stranger exists, OWI clearly aren't averse to radical changes in locale, so one could expect a globe-trotting epic. We haven't even seen the megacities yet, and that's where the Quintology is supposed to kick off.

Speak for yourself, man.

Slog Bait 06-06-2014 04:04 PM

I don't think they'd stay in one area, but from what I've read and come to understand they won't be traveling to the opposite end of the planet within the quintology. Oddworld's supposed to be massive, so I'd assume the scale the quintology covers won't be that large on the grand scale of things. It seems like the quintology will be something that focuses more on the culture of that region and the places surrounding it, which would have world wide consequences yeah, but not any further than that?

If you can refer me to some place where I can better read up on things in case I'm completely mistaken, just link me. And, regardless, even if they did travel far, I'm not interested enough nor invested in the characters to care where they end up.

e- Also, obviously I know there are going to be more characters than Abe and Munch, and they'll be getting more development because that's how stories work, but those characters haven't been introduced yet. I do not currently care for the quintology because of what I've seen of it up to now, main characters involved not catching my interest, and what I currently know about the quintology does not interest me enough to see where it ends up.

However, what I've seen of individual stories on their own (literally just Abe's and Stranger's stories. Munch doesn't count because it felt more like a continuation of Abe's story with the introduction of his quirky bouncy burping sidekick frog) makes me desperately crave new content from OWI focusing on a new character in a separate story with no ties to the previous characters introduced, in an environment we weren't even aware existed on Oddworld.

Like I said in a previous post: "The next installment of the quintology would need to be absolutely mind blowing for its story to be of any interest to me personally."

The most recent word on the Quintology's main plot are the OddBlog interviews with Lorne.

http://oddworldlibrary.net/blog/oddblog_specials/

It's spread across them, though.

Slog Bait 06-06-2014 04:35 PM

Oh no

Lorne interviews

I'm too sober for this right now someone provide me with something that will make me a little less sober pls

I disagree. Munch's story was almost identical to Abe's, undoubtedly. But the character feels much different. Abe always gave me a feel of being constantly on the edge of passing out from fear. Munch though, he was ready to fuck the world over for taking his species away. Abe was kinda an accidental hero, he originally was focused on saving himself from rupture farms, while the entire premise of MO is to save the species.

In quite a few ways I like munch more than abe, but only in character.
