Dev Diary: The Man Behind New 'n' Tasty's Cut-Scenes
Interesting read over at Oddworld.com
http://www.oddworld.com/2014/04/dev-...ys-cut-scenes/ It's good to have Mauricio Hoffman back with OWI to work on some Oddworld Stuff. I like how they asked yet another old Inhabitant to work on the new stuff. |
Like the sound of that Shrykull cutscene. But damn I want those Molluck scenes...
It would have been cool if they had the time and money to include all these concepts from the Oddworld movie into the game (like they included the sleeping pods). Like stumbling upon a scret area of Glukkon occultism & Modokon sacrifice to the stock market. But that's all just wishful thinking and ignoring the realities of video game development really... |

But will the shrink scene return? (that robot thing with the many arms consisting of painful looking things?) that thing was pretty scary back then :D
I'm interested in these 80k machines they used to use? Was that just how much it cost for machines that could do rendering back then? Or was it some other specialized hardware for running softimage? |
Well your average desktop certainly couldn't render that sort of thing back then unless you wanted to wait a thousand years. :P
I'm glad that sort of processing power is commonplace these days. |

I never understood the Guardian Angel. Was it a cut character? or just something purely made to promote Abe's Oddysee?

But the Shrink is essentially Sam the Queen's shrink. To keep her occupied, to keep her spirits up or what have you. http://oddworldlibrary.net/archives/...-Fsgyf2EbP.jpg I guess there are multiple. |
Shrinks are psychiatrist AIs mass-produced to keep workers productive. They're canon as far as I can tell, but Abe's Shrink probably wasn't anything special. In fact, it was probably shared with a dozen other workers.
Sam gets multiple because she has to work around the clock. |
I can imagine she must have at least said this once:

Early MO scripts only have one Shrink dedicated to Sam.
|
But... but... the picture... there are at least two of them.
Seriously, I'm not sure how much of those early scripts can be concidered as remotely canon, especially when you see what the final (and canon) version of MO turned out to be. |
Why would shrinks need to work in shifts? They're robots!
|
Well true, Sam would only need one at the time and it would not need any breaks, so I guess a single Shrink for Sam makes sense.
Still some other Shrinks would be needed for the other muds. |

It could be one shrink with multiple screens.
