Stewart @ Worlds Factory - Performance Gap Between PS4 & X1 Not Disappearing

And there you go, apparently Lorne was misinterpreted and Stew sets everything straight.

Those two need to get on the same page.

Also, they should both hire media consultants as they have to be pretty close to being the worst developers I've ever seen at giving interviews.

Barring Phil Fish, of course.

It is kind of bad, there's much more media coverage of the industry now than 10-20 years ago and they need to hurry up and realise that things like this are going to get picked up on. It does not look like good business.

What does he mean by 'Parity/sim-ship'?

Xavier 04-08-2014 05:39 AM

No idea Nate.

A lot of talking about engines and such.

What does he mean by 'Parity/sim-ship'?

Well the "Parity" part is Microsoft's parity clause. Apparently Microsoft offer indie developers free dev kits and free engines to ensure lead release or first day release. Although it seems to be not much more than what the other platforms are offering - without the "or else" bit.

So since Oddworld got that PlayStation stage show time at E3, PS got a 30 day exclusivity in return. Which goes against Microsoft's parity clause for indies. It seems to be a pretty controversial issue. You'll find more developed arguments in various comments sections.

That's what I gathered anyway.

Nate 04-08-2014 08:33 PM

Gotcha. With that context, 'sim-ship' probably means 'simultaneous shipping date'.

Xavier 04-10-2014 12:37 AM

Yeah probably. I think in this case it should be the job of the reporter to make a note to make this clear. I mean I'm following the game buisness from not too far away and I had no idea what he was talking about.

OANST 04-10-2014 07:12 AM

So this has become a national news story. While that's maybe good for Lorne, and Stewart in the short term, I do think that their habit of running their mouths is probably burning some industry bridges, and they could use a stern "If you have nothing nice to say" talking to. I really don't think they're doing themselves any favors.
