New 'N' Tasty Demo?

I know there is currently no announcement or any word on a demo for New N Tasty yet, but I wanted to discuss my thoughts on a possible demo with the members here. I think I can safely say that at least 99% of you would love to see a demo version of the game being released.

I think it's important now to mention how I got into Oddworld as it binds well with this thread, when I first got my Playstation many moons ago, I had the famous Demo 1 Disc with it, of course Abe's Oddysee was included on it, I played the demo, absolutely loved it, and of course went out and bought the game.

Considering New 'N' Tasty is a remake of AO, I would feel it appropriate that the demo version should be like the original AO Demo, allow you to play all of Rupturefarms.

I'm curious to find out how many of you also played the demo and if it made you want the full game, if many of you had the same experience as me, then no doubt the same formula should work for New N Tasty.

We know nothing

Considering how close New 'N' Tasty is to release, aswell as how much of a potential money sink a game demo can be, I don't expect to see one.

This isn't like the old days. Considering the internet will do a lot of promotion for them, I think I'd rather they spent their effort on getting the full game released as soon as they're able to - It seems they're just polishing it up.

Perhaps a demo could be a later thing to help promote their game after release if they so choose (KSP and ETS2 were sold to me in this way), but it'd be a little silly to prioritise that first for the sake of nostalgia.

Things are different nowadays. Demos aren't as common, especially for games with such a small budget. I'm not sure if we'll be getting one.

A demo? Aren't those called 'Public Beta's' these days? :P

I doubt we'll be seeing one, though I think it would be worth the extra time to generate some more hype. Releasing a free demo (that isn't marked as a beta) is pretty rare these days and is bound to generate a few headlines around the release. I can't imagine it's an insane amount of work to do, actually. Maybe a tidbit of level redesign at the end of RF and cutting out all unneeded files from the demo download. But maybe I'm oversimplifying.

The only thing I can see happening is early press releases for reviewers, critics and ect.

They did create PS3 demos for MOHD and more recently for SWHD, so it’s possible they could also put a demo for NnT out there. But the SWHD demo was released long after the game itself, so that might be an indicator for how they’ll approach NnT.

I guess it depends on how difficult and/or expensive it is for them to do – I don’t know if Unity is easy to work with in that regard or how much it costs to publish demos on digital distribution channels.

A demo for the PC version would be much appreciated, to help gauge how well it would run on people’s rigs.

My guess is that we will not get a demo before the actual release. If we get one it will be after.

Appart from that I agree that if they do one the first level is an excellent chunk to get you sarted and wet your appetite.

There SHOULD be a demo, but odds are there won't be. They take money and time to make.

The market is saturated with pre-alpha bull-shit early builds that are equivalent to demos if you think about it. Besides RF might be much bigger now, who knows, I think a demo would give a lot away and ruin the surprise for a lot of people. Also the release is gonna be in like, the next three or four months supposedly, so come on people.

The demo disk is coming in June's issue of Nintendo Power magazine.

A demo would remove a lot of peoples excuses for pirating on PC. A lot of people say "I need to pirate it to see if it works on my system" - a demo provides exactly that.

On that note maybe they could release some test/benchmark tool instead.
