Shrykkul is Scrab + Paramite? And Meech?
All we know, that the Guardian of Oddworld, the divine Shrykkul is "made up" of sacred animals: Scrab and Paramite. But the Mudokon race also considered Meech a sacred one. So I have a few hypothesises.
1. Shrykkul exists as a shapeless being, but becomes the image of those things, which its host worships. OR 2. Sacred animals are only Scrabs and Paramites, as they, if combined, resemble Shrykkul, so Meeches are falsely sacred. OR 3. There is another divine being, which resembles Meeches and it resembles only Meeches or combinations of Meeches with Scrabs and Paramites. { 1. This divine being is non-existant, as Meeches no longer exist. OR 2. This divine being is existant, as Meeches still exist. OR 3. This divine being is existant and Meeches do not exist. } OR 4. Shrykkul was originally Scrab+Paramite+Meech, so now Meeches are extinct and Shrykkul is at 2/3 of its former power, so when every sacred animal is destroyed, the Shrykkul is no more and the realm of Oddworld shall be devoured by chaos. OR 5 (MeechMunchie). Shrykkul respresents the wrath of wronged species and if Abe had completed the sacred trials of the Meeches he would have had their bits. Huh. Seems like ya old bitch has no more ideas. However, you might have. In this case, I would be honoured, if you could explain them. |
5. Shrykull represents the wrath of all wronged species, but Abe only got the approval of Scrabs and Paramites. If he completed the sacred trials of the Meeches, he'd get their bits.

Woah. My mind, has been blown. Oddspiracies.
|
MM, your hypothesis is being added.
|
Or maybe Meeches never were 'sacred'
Did they have Temples and nests like the Scrabs and Paramites? |
#oddspiracies trending on Twitter.

I remember having a brief conversation with Lorne about the Oddworld gods and deities and such, there are indeed more deities than just Shrykull floating around.
However as for theories, Meeches weren't in AO, Scrabs and Paramites were, so Shrykull resembles the creatures we actually see for more than a couple seconds in the intro, it's as simple as that. I'm sure had they been included they'd have their own temple - but they weren't so there isn't such a temple. |
Shrykull is Mugen.

No I didn’t post this in the wrong thread. *ahem*
It seems pretty clear in the games that Scrabs and Paramites are the only species the Mudokons consider sacred (or at least sacred enough to integrate into their Shrykull god), since those species are the only ones with temples related to the testing of the Mudokon savior and the only ones which Mudokon tribes use to guard their tombs in Necrum. While it’s possible there were other temples dedicated to other species, it seems unlikely that the Mudokons would just alter the “savior test” just for practical purposes. The Shrykull power requires only the two hand scars from the Scrabanian and Paramonian temples, and if other temples were originally involved surely they wouldn’t just be able to stop using one or more scars in the ritual and get the same results. In Monsaic Lines there is only evidence of the Scrabanian and Paramonian temples’ existence – Scrab and Paramite statues*, story stones describing those lands and the trials the Mudokon savior must complete to prove themself, and the two wells leading to each land. Meeches were known to have existed in the area, but nowhere in Monsaic Lines is there any mention of the species, and there is no scar (or other ritual element) which could be connected to them. I think it’s safe to say that the Shrykull power is only explicitly connected to Scrabs and Paramites, and these are the only species (at least for the native Mudokon tribes living in Mudos) considered sacred on such a level. * There are also Elum statues, but the lack of any other mention of Elum relating to the Shrykull power means we can safely put this down to Elum being a revered workhorse of the Mudokons and not explicitly a part of the tests. |
Your arguments are powerful. I am into hypothesis 2 too.
|
Suppose there were other arcane rituals associated with the other temples.
|
That’s entirely possible, but the question posed in the OP is specifically related to Shrykull.
|
Those rituals may have pertained to Shrykull. Perhaps there was a time when you had your pick of hand scars and Shrykull configuration.
|
That's basically what I said. Shrykull is an embodiment of wrath. Scrabs and Paramites made the cut because they're really fucking angry. The Meeches are just... dead.
Suggestion for Squeek's Oddysee: Meech zombies. |
What are they supposed to be, old Munchies that got thrown out?
|
New suggestion: Meech golems. Made of discarded Munchies.
|
originally i did think Shrykkul was Scrab + Paramite and Meech, yes.

That's a good point, actually. Now that Oddworld has gone indie, does that mean Abe will be back on the cameo circuit?
