Is it just me or is the name of ACE Team's new game, Abyss Odyssey, a bit too similar to an other certain game?

The title sounds oddly close, but I think that’s just coincidence. The game itself doesn’t seem anything like AO, stylistically or gameplay-wise.

Honestly, I think this is just a strange coincidence. I highly doubt this was done on purpose.

I would be more suspicious if it had Strangeworld or Weirdworld in the title. :)

and the follow-up game made in 9 months,
"Wierdworld: Abyss's Exadus"

Dont forget "Unknown's Fury"

I don't think it's trying to get a ride off of OW, but I do think it should be changed.

Pff, how cheap. That name is too similar to be a coincidence if you ask me. Not sure what they're trying to do, ride along with the hype around Oddworld or something? I don't buy that any self respecting game developer does not see this title is similar to that of a cult classic that happens to be remade at the moment...

It does sort of remind me of Gary's Incident. But hey ho.

These are the devs of Zeno Clash, a somewhat successful series that began as a HL2 Mod. Not some shitty studio making crap iOS knock offs. They aren't stupid enough to blatantly replicate another game's name.

If I see good evidence that this is actually rip off, My point stands. It's just a coincidence.

You have to be living under a rock as a game developer to not know some of the most classic titles in your own profession. Especially 2D side scrollers. Them saying "We have no idea what Abe's Oddysee is" might actually make them suck more as developers than blatantly ripping the title.

I agree with Havoc. Any game developer will have most likely done a fair bit of research into the type of game they're creating before actually starting production.

Have you seen the gameplay trailer of this game? It's nothing like any Oddworld game.

Well now that they have announced it I guess they will notice (if they did not before) that there is a huge resemblance. Simply look at the comment of each site reporting this announcement and you will see a lot of people saying they read it as Abe's Oddysee.

But honestly, unless this is a game about an Odyssey in the Abyss, I think the name is too silly to be a coincidence.

It's been more than 15 years since AO came out. Even among people who played the game it's now more of a historical footnote than a cherished memory. Hell, just two weeks ago I was talking to someone about classic games and out of the blue he asked me if I had heard of 'Abe's Oddworld'.
