Abe's Exoddus Blackscreen
Hello everyone,
I bought the Oddpack on Steam some days ago and as I replayed Abe's Odysee and Exoddus there was something that bothered me. Everytime i wanted to quit it crashed and the graphics werent that clean. Both games were also just possible to actually play because of a ddhack.dll i had to download. Chubfish helped me then to get my game in windowed mode with Paul's ddraw.dll. But when i try to start the game with it I can hear Abe talking in the menu screen but the window is just black. Starting it as admin and with compatibility mode didn't work so now i hope someone here can help me with that issue. Just in case it matters : I have Windows 7 64bit and and Nvidia geforce 260 graphics card. Thanks :) Nick |
Have you tried validating the files through steam?
|
Yep I believe I did if validating is the same as "verifying the game cache". I never use Steam in english so I am not sure whether this is the same....
But if it is....no it doesn't work I'm afraid :( |
Delete the hack files and reinstall?
|
Well the thing is without the hack files I am not able to play. Without it the game doesnt start properly. With ddhack it does but has weird issues and crashes when I quit, which wouldnt be that bad but it takes like 5 minutes till its shut down when I quit which is amazingly annoying. With Paul's hack it might work fine (at least i heard) if I could actually SEE something^^

Try what Nep said. Uninstall the games, wipe all data from your steamapp/common files and re-download. Also, I thought you didn't download ddcheat? It's just a command you put in the properties of the shortcut?
As for your computer. Windows 7 is known for causing all sorts of issues and it can't be your graphics because the GeForce 260 can easily run AO and AE. The card only came out 3 years ago. |
CP, ddhack.dll is a rendering hack for games made using DX7, because Win7 has shit compatibility for it.
Nick, hello and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately it's hard to give good advice in regards to hacks like this. Did the game work when using just the ddhack.dll and not Paul's ddraw.dll? You might have to settle for it not running windowed. I'm using a newer nVidia card, but still on Win7 x64 with the steam version and I have no problems. It might be one of those things where your specific setup just doesn't like the game. I have the same problems with Hearthstone and noone's been able to help me at all :/ |
Run it in a window with the hack, then use process explorer to check which other dll's are injected and then find a way to make them not be injected (temp rename them or uninstall whatever it is part of). This will likely fix your problem as 3rd party hooks tend to break many apps.
Edit: Make sure you know what you're doing here, don't try to remove ntdll.dll etc or you will break your OS. |
Hi guys, I've been busy for some days so I didn't have time to try stuff out... but no re-installing the game doesnt rly help me either.
But what Paul says makes me curious. The thing is I don't know anything about this stuff and maybe it's insanely easy but I don't get it here because everything here is in english. Is there maybe someone i could add on Steam or Skype who could help me through the process? :) |
Get sys internals process explorer and paste the output of the loaded dlls with full paths here..
