I can only see it on my smartphone right now but this looking great!
And the new mobile website is quite impressive :)

Nath 10-30-2013 05:06 AM

Their new website is pretty awesome.

Manco 10-30-2013 05:48 AM

I like how we waited years for a new website, and in the past two years we’ve had like three redesigns.

e: oh god

Scrabaniac 10-30-2013 07:01 AM

This is just fucking awesome. 13877

Varrok 10-30-2013 07:10 AM

The site looks good, though every screenshot looks incredibly lowpoly (with lowres textures), especially the terrain.

On the other hand, Abe's face in cutscenes finally looks good,

AvengingGibbons 10-30-2013 07:35 AM

His eyeballs could look so so SO much better. They look like they're a simple matte material. The game will be availbale on PS4? Those eyeballs are the type you'd see on a PS2! Covering them up with my thumbs, I can imagine how the images would look if they used some more advanced modelling/lighting methods on his eyes, and what I'm imagining is so much sweeter.

Agreed! But why does Abe look like a bobble-head?

Varrok 10-30-2013 08:33 AM

It's on Unity, we can't really expect GOOD graphics.

Also: http://www.oddworld.com/wp-content/t...tasty/nnt5.jpg
It looks like it's from Stranger's Wrath. You know, that game which is currently 8 years old.

Nepsotic 10-30-2013 08:48 AM

Yay they kept the windmill : D

Whose bright idea was it to add all the animated backgrounds onto the site

Seriously, what the fuck. My laptop has a heart attack every single time I go on the site now. It's very inconvenient.

It all looks pretty nice besides that, though.

The site crashed on my iPad, but that's probably 'cause iOS7 is still so buggy. But yeah, moving parts on websites are usually just gimmicky crap. Maybe I'll think differently when I check it out on my laptop.

Manco 10-30-2013 10:01 AM

oh no, the foliage isn’t rendered with the same quality as crysis, whatever shall we do

STM 10-30-2013 10:43 AM

I've just realised that because you're no longer walking on platforms 100% of the time, UXB's are irrelevant. You can just walk around them. ):

In other news, those screenies look cool.

Varrok 10-30-2013 10:45 AM

Crysis is 6 years old now

MeechMunchie 10-30-2013 11:04 AM

Firstly, you're going to be twenty in-game feet away from everything, and secondly, it's all going to be in motion. It'll look better, with not much point making it higher-res.

Secondly, I'm with Gibbons. Slap on a specularity mask or something - eyeballs need moisture to look alive, and eyes pull a lot of weight in the realism of your character as a whole.

You all need to play the orignials again and realise how much detail you were filling in with your imagination. But hey, if that's what you need from a game, just play N&T in 800x600. With scanlines. I want my "Classic Mode" option!

Also,

Needs to be a stock avatar

I just want to point out that to this day, I cannot see the eyes on Mudokon sprites. I just see really big teeth.

I always saw a squinting face, personally. The area right above the eye-tooth. Definitely a squinty eye.

AvengingGibbons 10-30-2013 01:04 PM

I never quite knew what i was looking at, untill i saw those promotional higher-res image sprites.

Anyone know why JAW settled on the unity engine? They did said they had a licence for the bitsquid engine which looks way more superb then unity.

Also I'm not quite thrilled that everything looks way too low poly considering this is a Ngen game. I hope they're placeholders.

YOU USED TOO MANY FULL STOPS IN THAT ELLIPSIS

AlexFili 10-30-2013 02:26 PM

Unity is presumably quite good at being ported to a variety of platforms and has a variety of physics plugins available. The new website looks amazing.

Crashpunk 10-30-2013 03:05 PM

Those screenshots have really impressed me.

Beautiful.

The website looks awesome as well. Personally the animated backgrounds makes the website look way more active and appealing to view. The '3D' Stranger's Wrath on the home page looks epic

Yeah it's funny how we care about Oddworld on a Oddworld forums isn't it.

Michael 10-30-2013 03:16 PM

Now that you mention it, the last I heard was that it was to be on Bitsquid too. Agreed on the distance though- since everything is running real time now using in-game assets, there will likely be visible reduction in quality and detail close up. The new screens look great though, especially the one scrabaniac posted!

I was going to hold off buying a PS4 for a while, as the launch lineup doesn't really interest me. Then I hear New n' Tasty is coming this side of Christmas! Definitely a system seller for me. I really don't play many games these days, Oddworld is one of the only series I still avidly follow!

Bitsquid supports many platforms, including next-gen consoles, so it's not the case

The Bitsquid site lists Windows, PS4, PS3, X360, Shield, Android, and iOS.

Unity supports iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and (since NnT will be released on them we can also assume) Vita and PS4.

Unity is also generally more widely used in the industry, so probably better suits their workflow and allows for a them to more easily find talent with experience of their engine.

Phylum 10-30-2013 04:40 PM

Uhh guys I don't remember them ever saying they ever swapped to Unity? Varrok just said it, but that doesn't make it a fact.

OddYouko 10-30-2013 07:03 PM

The image scrabaniac posted of Abe walking in the cave looks really nice. I'm curious to know if it'll be part of a cutscene or a little intro to when you enter another section of the level?

And the two location screenshots look beautiful.

Nah I've heard it quite a few times, it's definitely Unity.
