History of Oddworld

:

http://www.oddworld.com/wp-content/u...f-Oddworld.jpg

The current issue of Retro Gamer has a six-page feature on the history of Oddworld, with the participation of Lorne Lanning and Stewart Gilray.

Did I mention it has exclusive Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty screenshots? Oh yes!

As you can see, we’ve got our copy. When are you getting yours? (You can order online if you like.)

I'm going to get my copy tonight hopefully.

Phylum 09-20-2013 05:10 AM

Scan it for us poor scrubs, yeah?

Jordan 09-20-2013 07:38 AM

Oh wow! I'll have to go and grab myself a copy.

STM 09-20-2013 08:59 AM

Is it all stuff we already know... or something that would justify me forking out for a magazine of which I shall read six pages of? >>

OANST 09-20-2013 01:18 PM

I can't wait for the new Art of Oddworld: The Second Ten Years book. Apparently it's a really nice diary. Or sketch pad. Or dream journal. Or grocery list. Stop me when the joke about all the pages being blank sinks in. Or stationary. Or coarse tissue paper. Or kindling....

Wil 09-20-2013 01:55 PM

Pfft, I already made essentially the same joke from an official Oddworld account. You're lagging.

OANST 09-20-2013 02:04 PM

You've all become terrible people, and I'm less interesting now because of it.

I still think you're interesting :)

not really.

For those wondering, included is a screen from Paramonia and a screen from what looks like one of the zulags after returning to rupture farms. They look nice. I don't feel like either of them beat that beautiful swinging balls teaser we saw a few weeks ago, but I love how nature-like the Paramonian environment looks. The trees are so organic looking!

So you gonna post em or what?

abe is now! 09-21-2013 05:55 AM

Go slowly please, I'm not following you! What the hell is that?

STM 09-21-2013 06:25 AM

New 'n' Tasty is cancelled.

Varrok 09-21-2013 06:38 AM

Now that sad emoticon in the title is justified.

I was going to. But I am not paying £5 for a magazine just for one article.

I was tempted to take a photo of them but that would of looked really dodgy. I was already standing in WHSmiths for 5 minutes reading the article.

Nepsotic 09-21-2013 10:03 AM

I love how people on the Oddworld Forums aren't even getting the magazine.

abe is now! 09-21-2013 10:41 AM

^^How the hell can I get that magazine?

I did really want to get it, but again, if only it was a bit cheaper. I consider £5 a lot for just a magazine

it's a UK magazine. However I think you can buy it online.

abe is now! 09-21-2013 10:57 AM

Please buy one for me and send it to me via mail. I'll love you.

Varrok 09-21-2013 11:14 AM

So you don't love us already?

Nath 09-21-2013 01:39 PM

Bought it today just for that article. Good read. And that pic of Paramonia is sweet. Small but looks really nice. it's getting me ready for this game. Pointless taking a picture of it as it wont do it justice.
At one point the journalist said the most unoddworldy fan thing and said that stranger was the 4th game of the quintology. Up to that point it was going so well.
It then listed the other games that Lorne had planned like Hand of Odd, SligStorm, Klot, Squeek's Oddysee, Munch's Exoddus and Oddworld: Slave Circus <-Never heard of that last one. Anyone else know?

fyi the rest of the magazine was good too.

Discuss.

STM 09-21-2013 05:16 PM

Okay, so I know it's low quality...but wow. =I

Nepsotic 09-21-2013 07:39 PM

Rupture Farms is the wrong green D:

AvengingGibbons 09-21-2013 10:33 PM

When I saw the trees, I was thinking theyre a bit too Earth like and not odd enough. What do you lot think?

Same with the path that looks like its made of cobblestone. Isn't Paramonia meant to be very 'natural'? If there are built structures there, they're all made from raw wood (logs). They're not shaped, just straight-from-the-tree branches. The cobblestones look too deliberately places. If there's a path like that, shouldn't it look less refined? Those stones look awfully smooth... what do you think about this?

EDIT: I couldn't see the image whilst I was writing this post. I looked back at it after, and I think I'm being overly critical. So I retract what I've said. I think it's difficult to accept the different look when I'm so in love with the game I played 10+ years ago as a kid.

Any way, the screens do look impressive :).

Crashpunk 09-22-2013 02:46 AM

Thank you AvengingGibbons. ^_^

The trees in Paramonia were always earth like. In fact Paramonia is the most earth like setting in Oddworld.
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...amonia_abe.jpg

Having stone platforms instead of wood is actually makes it more natural. It looks to me the path is untouched and has Mudokon structures around it instead of the whole path being Mudokon made. I kinda like it.

Can't complain about the second image, I'm always impressed by Rutpure Farms images and this one is no acception. I would love to see more of the Slog.

Connell 09-22-2013 03:19 AM

When you compare the HD paramonia image to the one Crashpunk posted, it makes me feel like a better suited name for NnT would be Oddworld: Abe's Super Fun Cartoon Adventure HD. Real letdown after the beautiful swinging boulder shot we had the other day.

Am I being too picky once again? Probably. Rupture Farms is looking decent though.

You're welcome, CrashPunk.. I have to disagree: The rocks don't make the structure look more natural. Like I said, they look like cobblestone to me, like they've been put there purposely. And imagine the hard work it would take to get those stones up there. Looking at the original screen, the paths looks to me like it's perhaps made from tree branches coated in mud, which is far more natural. Carting stones up into the tree would have been a job more suited to sophisicated lifting equipment, giving the feelig that this redesigned screen is not 'untouched' and organic.

Nah, it's just the colours, turn down gamma and it will be fine.
