I've been hard at work on this project for the last month or so and now I'm finally at a point where I can open this place up to the public! So here's hoping at least some of you guys will like this.

I've had the idea of setting up my own (gaming) community for a few years now. Had a few iterations of the idea worked out over the years, built a couple of websites, administrated a couple of forums. Same with game servers. Had some for a while, they came and went. The Minecraft server I managed for OWF was the longest running game administration 'job' I've had over the years and taught be a lot of valuable lessons.

So a few weeks ago I decided to take all that experience with websites, games and servers and mash it into one big project. A gaming community. Hardly a new idea or concept, but something I wanted to pursue non the less. And so after a lot of planning and learning how Linux works I bought my very own dedicated server, configured it and placed it in a data center.

I wanted to start up in easy and familiar territory, so the first two games Tiger-gaming.net is hosting are Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft. The TF2 server has been up and running for about 2 weeks now. I had hoped to have the Minecraft server up a lot sooner, but building the spawn area took more time than I had anticipated. Luckily I had some help from Darkhoodness and Crashpunk.

Today I'm opening the place up to the public. And since a lot of my gaming roots lie with OWF I'm offering all members of OWF a special opening deal.

All members of OWF will receive a lifetime Premium Gold account on Tiger-Gaming.net and all of its current and future game servers.

http://tiger-gaming.net

Just sign up on the website, introduce yourself and let me know what your username is in this thread. I will then make sure to apply your premium account. You'll get all kinds of neat little perks on the servers and the website.

Let me know what you think about this. I appreciate any feedback you can give me, I'm sure there's areas to improve still. If you want to visit the servers, the IP addresses for TF2 and Minecraft are on the website as well. Just check the 'servers' tab.

Also, I'm looking for some staff members. Anyone above the age of 18 who is willing to be a website or game server moderator, please let me know. I can use the couple of extra hands.

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 09:41 AM

Do we have to "like" tigers to play?

Also, I hope those "perks" aren't pay-to-win. Cosmetic only, right?

Havoc 08-27-2013 09:46 AM

I hate pay-to-win, so no. For Team Fortress 2 it's perks like being protected from auto-balance (everyone hates auto balance) and having a reserved slot. Same for Minecraft really, just some perks that make life a little easier without automatically making you win at everything.

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 09:54 AM

Okay then, I'm in. "FlamingCarrot".

What's the deal with the big purple permission area on the MC map?

Havoc 08-27-2013 09:59 AM

That's a very large PVP zone with special rules. Kinda like the Hunger Games but with building rights and stuff.

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 10:04 AM

Maybe you should build a wall to mark that out.

Havoc 08-27-2013 10:09 AM

You get a warning as soon as you enter into that area. Would be an amazingly big wall to go all the way around it. You get plenty of warnings about the area before you can manage to randomly wander in there anyway.

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 11:11 AM

Courtesy of my friend Sam, we have a non-OWF member.

I'll be a Mod if you need one, but I have little/no Minecraft experience and don't play much anyway so

EDIT: I can't see the server list while logged in.

Crashpunk 08-27-2013 12:55 PM

Don't play MVM again. I fucking hate that mode. :(

Also anyone who wants to know more about TF2, come to me. I've played far too many hours on it and I pretty much know how every weapon and mechanic works.

It's like that - kinda like a safety switch so that you don't get into it too much. :P

Nice to see that the Forums have a place again for gaming. I'll definitely visit the TF2 server every now and then. MC, not so sure - maybe if there's some community event or adventure happening, or if I feel like playing the game again.

Registered, I'm Old_Nile.

Havoc 08-27-2013 01:55 PM

Welcome on board :)

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 02:45 PM

Havoc, I'm going to explain this very clearly. I NEED those towers. I don't care if they're ugly. I may know where the caves are, but I'm still quite capable of walking straight past them. I know they're ugly. Maybe, if you left them up long enough for me to actually mine something, I'd have some prettier sign materials by now.

You could at least WARN me before you tear down a half-hour's work. I mean, they're in the middle of nowhere. Nobody cares.

Havoc 08-27-2013 02:57 PM

Building a dirt tower is half an hour of work now? Placing 1 block towers to mark stuff isn't allowed on like 90% of all public servers. It wouldn't have been allowed on the OWF server either.

Anyway, thank you for pointing out a much needed rule that I overlooked.

MeechMunchie 08-27-2013 04:38 PM

Building two towers twice, including resource gathering, yes.

DarkHoodness 08-27-2013 05:55 PM

@Havoc - Registered on Tiger Gaming with "Darkhoodness". I wish you the best of luck with this after the work you put in. :)

@MM - As I was saying, you can press F3 to view your coordinates and manually write down your x, y, and z to mark stuff, though I dunno what the problem with dirt towers are if they're only temporary. Shame Rei's minimap mod with markers isn't part of normal MC.

Havoc 08-28-2013 07:25 AM

The minimap mod is easy enough to install on regular MC. I use it all the time.

go on minecraft
begin to redecorate house
extend claim to cover house
house is invaded by two 14-year-olds
14-year-olds ask for various tools and resources to help them start
i hand them over

14-year-olds march into my garden
start stealing all my wheat
chop down half my orchard
say "hey your house is great let's live here"

proceed to dig up garden
proceed to live in hole under my garden
proceed to invade my mines from undeneath and flood them with lava
proceed to be agressively evicted by yours truly

offer to pay me rent in iron
(they already took some diamond ore from my mine, guess which one is more valuable)
i say i'd rather have my garden back
they complain that my garden isn't big enough
i suggest they might want to live somewhere else
they go "ow harsh"

another 14-year-old turns up
"hey this house is cool is it yours"
"no it's [Albert]'s"
"can i live here too" (directed at squatters)
"sure"
Me: "I take it I don't get a say in this"

proceed to dig until they reach a distant island occupied by my friend sam
the preceeding logged hours of gameplay have allowed me to expand my claim to cover my garden, so I promplty fill in their tunnel, claim the land on top so they can't dig it out again, and put up a sign reading:

TIGER GAMING
All are welcome!
(But you can't all live in my garden)

and to this day, there is still an ugly 10x10 patch of mangled orchard which they annexed when they first dug their squat
legally they own it and i can't clear it up, even though they don't live there any more
so i just built a big wall around it and called it a day
it was pretty funny, but i think i'd have found it funnier if it wasn't my garden.
they seem happy enough now where they are, i just wish i could have that chunk of my garden back.

i was going to build a sheep paddock
i need wool to carpet my house
also my ceiling for dumb minecraft reasons

the moral of the story is: don't make really convenient publically accessible facilities right next to where you live.
Today was eventful.

Wings of Fire 08-29-2013 03:45 PM

I like how it's almost song lyrics like that.

Today was eventful.

Yay public server :D

Also I liberated your tree farm box thing by deleting their claim there.

MeechMunchie 08-30-2013 04:35 AM

Cheers. I call it "The Great Wall of Spite".

Havoc 08-30-2013 04:39 AM

I've got a question for our few players: http://tiger-gaming.net/threads/26-V...s-your-opinion

Also having server discussion split on two forums is getting a bit of a pain. In the future if there's an issue concerning the game servers please post it on the Tiger Gaming forums instead of here. Thanks!

MeechMunchie 10-09-2013 03:55 PM

My PC kerploded 5 weeks ago, just got back online today; The claim on my paddock appears to have been replaced. I've still got permissions, but the other guy's claim doesn't actually cover the entire paddock, and obviously I can't extend someone else's claim. It's a bit of a pickle.

To start with, can I just find out why the claim was overwritten in the first place? There seems to be a railway overhead.

Havoc 10-09-2013 11:58 PM

I think your friend built that railway there and we had to claim it to prevent griefing. Not sure how your house got involved in that though. I'll have a look.

DarkHoodness 10-11-2013 06:04 AM

I helped White_Lancer claim his railway but your paddock wasn't claimed when I did that. Since he has his own animal farm I doubt he'd greif you, though... Mind sharing a claim with a section of his railway?

MeechMunchie 10-11-2013 12:03 PM

Sure, I'd just rather be able to control the claim and give him permissions than vice versa, since I'm more likely to expand it.

The main issue is that half my animals are getting blown up by Creepers because they're not in claimed space.

DarkHoodness 10-11-2013 12:18 PM

That's fixed now - Though the land immediately to the north and south of your paddock are claimed for the railway. If you want to change that and move the claims around in future, gimme a poke.

MeechMunchie 10-25-2013 04:05 PM

Server was pretty unstable today.
