What happens if I rescue all the mudokons on abe's oddysee?

What do I get for rescuing them all? Also are there any cheats on this game?

DarkHoodness 04-25-2013 12:29 PM

If we told you, it'd ruin the surprise.

Connell 04-25-2013 02:57 PM

You need to ask yourself, can you truly save all the Mudokons? Once you know this, the answer will come to you.

You also get a nice set of pictures.

Vyrien 04-25-2013 03:53 PM

I always used to think you got unlimited Shrykull when I was younger. No idea why.

Yes there are cheats but you are very naughty for using them, so don't.

Best achievement for an Oddworld game.

That would make an interesting New Game Plus. I doubt you could make your way very far through it because you wouldn't be able to possess Sligs. Unless the Shrykull power were given its own different control.

Xavier 04-26-2013 02:56 AM

You get pictures and access to a menu where you can see all cinematics and an extra tv promo for the game.

Wil, you got me wondering what JAW will come up with as reward.

Wil 04-26-2013 03:01 AM

You and me both.

Other than voice locks, would not being able to possess sligs be much of a problem?

Xavier 04-26-2013 04:19 AM

I suspect even voice locks can be blown to mudokon hell.

That's what I was thinking. But other than that, I can't think of any mechanics that would need to be altered to make it work.

Xavier 04-26-2013 06:51 AM

Come to think of it, playing with the shrykull would be challenging as well if you want to rescue all the mudokons without blowing them up :p

I used to think it was unlimited Shrykull too when I was wee. Also, on the topic of cheats, there's a code in a cheat book I have for the PS1 that is titled 'explosive farts' but we could never work out how it worked or what it did. This is for AO btw.

DarkHoodness 04-26-2013 01:00 PM

Unlimited Shrykull would've been better than the FMV list... Even though that was a pretty cool reward at the time, I remember being a little bit disappointed. But then I used Sinjin's walkthrough to get all 99 on my third playthrough back then, so I didn't work very hard for it.

Clearly this is a case of great minds thinking alike.

I'm sure I recall an exploding farts cheat as well, I had the 1001 PlayStation cheats book if that helps.

SoulStorm64 04-26-2013 04:19 PM

I hope they make unlimited shrykull in abe hd on a different button combo ;)

Also i could never get the explosive farts to work either. it was a fluke!

Nepsotic 04-26-2013 05:40 PM

It seems we now have a thread for what could've been a simple Google search. Anyway, as I recall, the explosive fart cheat did work, but it was bullshit. All it did was make farts green, I think. Also, the invincibility cheat never worked for AO, either.
I always use cheats after I've beaten a game, not on my first playthrough. I think playing through the game with Shrykull powers would get boring after a while, much like Noclip mode.

Connell 04-27-2013 04:00 PM

I too remember the exploding fart cheat, and all it did was made them green. I went out and bought a gameshark purely to try out the invincibility cheat in Oddysee, but I could never get the damn thing to work. I wanted to go behind the electric fence that you come through from Stockyard Return, but at the start of the game.

OddYouko 04-28-2013 02:12 PM

Did someone say unlimited Shrykull powers. :p

I don't remember the fart cheat at all, but I do remember also trying to use the invincibility cheat. Why was it in a cheat book if it never worked?

I'd be interested in a challenge where the shrykull and possession powers would essentially be reversed; eg you can use the shrykull for 99% of the game, but you'd acquire possession in every stage that would otherwise have the shrykull in it. Possession would be acquired at the beginning of the area and would not wear off until the next checkpoint, requiring you to strategically use possessed enemies to get rid of the explosives, etc. that were in levels with the shrykull power as far as I remember.
Of course, it would most likely not make a suitable game mechanic, but still, an interesting challenge. :P

Jordan 04-29-2013 11:15 PM

I remember trying so hard to find out if there was an invincibility cheat for AO like in AE because that's all I ever used to play it. Then I stopped being a pussy and finished it without invincibility but it would still be great to walk around like a god in Oddysee.

You can get cheats, but in all honesty, completing the game using cheats feels like a weak achievement compared to completing the game by yourself. It feels so much more rewarding when you give it your all.
