The Cave
I've played a bit of The Cave, with the Knight, the Adventurer and the Scientist.
It's a nice little game, but it's kinda shallower than I expected. I've finished the Knight's section, and unless there's more spelunking specifically for him later on, I'm a bit disappointed. There were only about three puzzles for him, a couple of silly jokes, and then it was suddenly on to the next part of the cave. It's probably because the playable characters are mute; it means they can't be characterised all that much. The Cave keeps talking about their deepest, darkest desires, but I don't get any sense that they really care all that much about them. Also, each part of the game herds you on to the next part, and you can't backtrack. That combined with the fact that there's no inventory, means that the puzzles are completely local and quite simple. Having said all that, it's not actually a bad game. In fact, it's really quite a good game. It's quite funny in parts too. It's just not as deep as I was expecting. |
My one problem with The Cave is I seemed to miss the extremely obvious warning that you were about to choose the three people you could take, so I accidentally took the Adventurer and the Monk when I meant to take the Time Traveler and the Twins.
Also I thought the stoyline (if you could call it that) in the Knight's section was hilarious, if yes, too short. |
I think my issue with the Knight's story is that it's meant to be about how he'll do absolutely anything to get what he wants, including deceit, theft, murder/allowing people to die but I've played enough Ron Gilbert/Tim Schafer adventure games over the years that such things seem like a completely normal way to behave.

So, is The Cave story interesting enough or it needed to have much more to make it enjoyable?
|
It's certainly enjoyable.
|
Good to know. I might buy it next month.
|
Just played the Adventurer's section and liked it a lot more than the Knight's. It was still too short though, but I guess I just have to take in to account that this is a game made for replaying.

I also picked up The Cave on release day for the Xbox and I have played it through two times now, first time with the Hillbilly, the Knight and the Monk and the second time I went with the Adventurer, the Twins and the Hillbilly again (in case you didn't know, there is a good and a bad ending for each character). It is a really charming little puzzle-platformer and so far I've enjoyed it. The humour and the characters' stories are really dark too, I mean goddamn. Also, the Twins are probably the best character in my opinion, their level is very fun and the story is crazy. But yeah, it is a good game.

I hate that Double Fine brought me to their studio to show me this game, and all of you are playing it before me. I need to get my fucking internet turned back on.
|
Wait, The Cave is out? Hot damn, I know what I'm doing tonight. or maybe tomorrow.
Anytime before OANST is fine. |
Cock handler.
|
Only my own. How else would I masturbate to the download screen of The Cave?
Seriously though, I probably won't end up playing it for a bit. I'm too busy with Binding of Isaac. |
I finished the Scientist and the Time-traveler's stories in The Cave so now I have played it with all the characters. The Scientist's level was pretty awesome but it was really easy too. The Time-traveler's area was very interesting too and probably the one that will cause the most problems too because of a certain puzzle. I still have some hard achievements to do in the game, some of them are very strange too.
It's also very saddening that the concept art/story pictures you unlock throughout the game are nowhere to be found online, I'd love to change my avatar to one of them, the art design is lovely. If any of you are playing on a PC, could you take high-res screenshots of them and upload them somewhere? I would definitely do that but I have no money to buy the Steam version and I don't feel like pirating this game. |

I don't have a home computer.

I played The Cave. In my opinion OANST would really really like it. If he could play it.

Negrep.

:(
To be honest, it's mostly funny (that is good), but player wastes too much time walking to a specific place with all three characters, one after another (that is bad). The puzzles seem easy so far, but with that kind of gameplay it's difficult to make them harder |
I've never even heard of The Cave and I'm still having more fun with it than OANST.
